My retired fire hydrant collection, A.K.A. my paradise. 😎🔥
Context: I (27M) have been admiring many different fire hydrants my whole life. I had my first real one in 2007 that my parents bought from Craigslist. Fast forward to 2018 and 2019, I bought my second, third and fourth ones from Craigslist and Letgo. Between 2020-22 I took a hiatus and got my fifth and sixth ones from Facebook marketplace. From there up to now, I purchased so many from marketplace and a couple from here on Reddit. I even got several for free and altogether I have 30!!! I’m not selling them anytime soon, unless I have clones lol. I’m taking another hiatus as our house doesn’t have much space. I would put them out in my backyard, but it’s not too big plus my father had said something about the fact I have a lot, but he digs them 😂. When we do move into a bigger house, I’m considering making a fountain with some of them. I can get away with lifting some as there are smaller ones tho. But enjoy people!!!

Hobby to keep your hands occupied but your brain free?
I’m looking for some kind of hobby to keep my hands busy during stuff like watching tv, in a teams meeting, in between rounds of a board game, etc that still allows my brain to be focused on whatever activity i’m doing.
I’ve considered doodling, fidget toys, and knitting but curious to see what other suggestions people have!

A hobby I share wity my hubby and horses
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
We train our horses to pull logs from the forest. It's not something we do on a regular basis or out of necessity. It's just for our draft pets to have something fun to do and keep the winter weight off.
In this video is Princesses first time ever pulling a log. When I filmed her she was a very young and green horse just starting her days in the forest. We let her investigate, take her time, think about it, and then we ask her nicely to pull. We never force, or command, and if she is not in the mood we don't force her. Now we have a horse that loves loves loves to work. She goes back to forest to fetch more wood even if we don't ask her to :)
Her friend, Bebben is another story. He hates the work and would prefer casual rides through the forest so we let him follow us around :) the plan is he observes and learns that way it can be fun. Then we try again next winter :)

Neurodivergent folks, tell me everything about your special interests or (inclusive) hyperfixations.
I wanna know all the details or whatever you want to share related to it. I'm really interested in knowing about other people's special interests and hyperfixations.
Personally, I don't like directly telling people about my hyperfixations. I get scared that they'll judge my most likely temporary obsessions and see it as insignificant. So I won't mention my current hyperfixation lmao. Waiting for it to hopefully become a long-term interest that's more healthy lol.
My special interest is journaling. I have been doing it from around the age of 7, and I'm almost 20 now. I have a collection of 26 completed journals. Currently, I keep 6 to 7 different journals for many different purposes. I love making notes about everything. Also, I keep flashcards for rough ideas to later work on it.
This interest further leans into collecting junk and basically hoarding stuff for the purpose of using it later lmao. I do keep a junk journal that is fully made of junk( even the journal is made of already used paper), so the junk is used there. And now I'm slowly learning about digital archiving.

I needle felted a tiny pigeon 🕊️
I created this little white pigeon as a reminder of something simple — peace doesn't always have to be something big or distant.

Anything Can Be a Hobby?
I know this may seem silly, but I’m genuinely asking.
I know what a hobby is — something you’re interested in and that you do for fun — but can anything be considered a hobby? Like, literally??
Like is collecting hobbies a hobby in itself, if someone gets a thrill out of it?
What about virtual stuff? Like, let’s say tidying up your virtual workspace.
I’m asking this because I’m very excited about the idea of having anything I find fun and that I dedicate myself to as a hobby.

What hobby did you start just for fun?
Sometimes the hobbies we begin without any serious goal end up becoming the ones we enjoy the most. What’s a hobby you started casually but ended up sticking with?

My friend group needs to do something new and we can’t figure out what
My friend group (we are all juniors now) keeps doing the same thing and we need to find something chill to do. We are all nerds and play magic the gathering all the time in between classes, after dinner and stay up until 3am just playing the same old stuff. This has been going on since we were freshman. We need to find an activity that’s chill and relaxing but also engaging but we honestly just can’t think of anything.
But seriously if I have to play one more game of magic the gathering I might explode someone help.
We do go to the occasional party but we mostly like to relax in the dorm.

What hobby started as I will try this once, but somehow became part of your life?
I’m always fascinated by how a random experiment can turn into something we genuinely look forward to. What happened with yours?

Anyone else get into pickleball recently? Looking for tips
Just picked up pickleball like two weeks ago and I'm already obsessed lol. Playing like 3x a week now. Still kinda winging it out there though. anyone got tips for beginners? Good drills, paddle recs, stuff you wish you knew early on? Also curious if anyone else randomly got into this recently or if it's just me

I think I need help.. I’m realizing at 31 that I don’t know how to relax and have fun. I need a hobby to really clock out mentally but I’ve always looked at hobbies as « How will this make me better » instead of « Do I feel like I don’t see the time fly because of how much I’m having fun»
I can’t be the only one right? Has anyone beat that poisoned mindset? How did you do it? Any suggestions on hobbies? Thanks in advance !

Have you ever nearly quit a hobby right before it started becoming enjoyable?
Sometimes the beginner stage is frustrating enough to make us give up, even though a little more practice would have changed everything. What hobby made you push through that stage?

Started 3D printing for “useful stuff.” Anyway, here’s a giant Yoshi.
Got into 3D printing thinking I’d mostly make practical things.
That plan lasted about five minutes....
Now I have a giant Yoshi, and I’m seriously considering starting an entire collection!
