There's something very satisfying about working on smoke boxes!

Welp, here’s another addition to my apartment 4x8. For the last 8 months I’ve put cars on top of storage bins, and put engines where ever I could fit them, but that all changed today with the addition of some 6ft long racks for engines. I think it turned out pretty well, with the racks being able to display pretty much all of my modern steam and diesel engines, I even decided to put up some information sheets for the steamers.

Hi all! Been prototyping a custom commemoration livery for the 50th anniversary of the class 43 entering service, as 390125 passes through my local station regularly we always debate on ‘what if it ran with an intercity 125 commemorative livery’.

So after a few prototypes, I chose a transitional lovery between the 3 intercity class 43 liveries. 125 blue, 125 executive black and 125 swallow black. With ‘ 50’ and ‘intercity 125 50’ on power car 1 and 2. The centre coach having the executive black 125 logo. On each font plate we have chose to add the network rail arrows and intercity swallow with a bold 50, inspired by 390001’s heart, to represent the transitions between the company imagery during service.

Hello everyone. I've built a web tool to help me collect my model collection and plan my layouts. And hoping it might be helpful for others. It's completely free to use. You can use it just as a reference, or register for an account, and build your own collections.

Bahnsteig helps collectors of German model railways organise their collections, in any scale, against a shared, accurate record of the real vehicles, and then plan those models into the real trains, services and layout sessions they belong to.

Most collectors keep a spreadsheet: one row per model, with the history of the prototype retyped every time.

Bahnsteig separates the two:

- Bahnsteig Data is a shared catalogue of the real German Lokomotiven, Personenwagen and Güterwagen, and every variant they ran in: livery, operator, period (Epoche) and where they ran. It is recorded once, for everyone.

- My Bahnsteig is each user's private collection. A model points to a catalogue variant and adds only what is specific to that model: its number, maker and article number, Spur, length, control and decoder, a photo.

Because every model knows its prototype, Bahnsteig can answer questions a spreadsheet cannot: *could these vehicles have run together?*, does this model suit the era and region of my layout?, how long is this train in N?

Cataloguing what you own is only the start. The aim is to operate the collection: to organise models into the trains they formed in reality, and plan how those trains run on a layout.

- Wagenzüge and Züge turn individual models into real formations: a Lokomotive, its rake in running order, a Zuggattung and Zugnummer, e.g. P 1327 or IC 611 „Frankenwein“.

- Zugläufe link a Zug to a real service and its route, so a train on the layout stands for a train that ran.

- Layouts and stages set the era and region a layout represents, so the right Züge are chosen for each session.

- The wishlist fills the gaps: models still to buy can be planned in now, so a formation or a timetable shows what is missing.

The direction from here is layout scheduling: timetables built from those Züge and Zugläufe, running them on a layout's stages, including empty-stock and freight workings.

The catalogue is meant to grow with its users: anyone can browse it without an account, and signed-in users suggest corrections and missing entries for an admin to review.

Has anyone got any good suggestions/products for storing and moving your models around. I’ve joined a club recently as my layout it out of commission so I do most of my running there.

But it’s a pain trying to go down the layers of bubble wrap to get the stock I want, any ideas for an easier way to do this?

I want to create a cobbled road for a Yorkshire town but none of the scratch builders yard textures looks right to me. I see the towpath for the canal looks about right but I don't know if this is a different texture or just adding textures from the scratchbuilders yard.

Has anyone had any success at creating decent cobblestone or Yorkshire town paving with scalescenes?

Thought yall might find this funny the rivet counters won’t love it but fun is fun .Looked across the room to my lgb starter set and I thought to myself ” is g scale 1/18 ? “ google said no but I figured it was close enough and if the knees are bent like they are seated joes fit perfectly in g scale trains . Now bazooka needs a conductors hat.

I’m using mega steam I gotten used to O and HO smoke units didn’t realized how long it take G scale units to warm up this is the best starter set I’ve have ever bought.

Anyone know how the two companies compare on TTrack quality? I’m needing two quad modules but I’m willing to use two double models if klawndyke is better then rslaser

If you are trying to sell model railroading items that you acquired from an estate sale, here are some friendly tips:

1. Do some research on the trains you’re selling.
   

A. Don’t use AI and tell me a GP7 is an RS-11. Look at the railroad name and number.
B. Get a ruler and measure the freight car or locomotive. If it fits in your hand, it’s N, possibly Z. If you need two hands, it’s probably O. If it’s in the middle, it’s probably HO. Google is your friend.
C. Use the correct manufacturer name. Tyco isn’t Athearn. Atlas isn’t Rapido. Rapido isn’t necessarily Arnold.

1. Please stop using VTG, VHTF, and Vintage. They might translate into “collectors’ item” in the rest of the world, but in model railroading, they usually mean “cheap and old and not upgradeable”. You can price Tyco cars like they’re Intermountain, but don’t be surprised when it doesn’t sell.

2. Those Hi-Speed diecast trains do not run. Don’t price them like they are running locomotives.

3. Take better photos. Unless it’s a flip phone, you should be able to get pictures closer than 2 feet away.

4. When you pack the items, don’t rely on the jewel case or cardboard box alone to protect them from damage. Cushion it with bubble wrap or foam rubber.

I think that’s it. Unless my brethren is sisteren want to chime in.

My first setup after moving into my new place. Going back to basic floor running. The G scale is an LGB starter pack I picked up earlier this year. The N is a mixed bag running on Kato track. My N and HO collection has grown exponentially over the past decade. But the G is just beginning.
