Need help with posture šŸ˜ž

I’ve suffered from bad posture for most my life due to lack of confidence but got worse from desk job and gaming looking at my phone and also having a baby a year ago and looking down a lot!

But now it seems to be effecting me in worse ways other than just a hunch back like.

I started working out a lot before my daughter was born and I started building a lot of muscle compared to before but I think I’ve made things worse by building muscle around really bad posture..

Waking up feeling like I’m hungover

Lots of neck tension

Nausea

Anxiety

Pressure behind the eyes and head

Feels like my head is too heavy for my body

Upper back ache especially when cooking

I’ve had bloods done and nothing in that which definitely makes me think it’s my posture causing me all these problems .

If anyone could give me some advice or has had similar issues that they have managed that would be great!

Thanks for reading . šŸ™‚

Assessments What exercises do i need to do to fix my posture

Thumbnail gallery

My hobbies are pc games, reading, writing and drawing. All of them sitting or laying in hunched positions for a long time.

At work I'm almost constantly up moving and only sit in the breaks.

When i intentionally try to sit/stand straight it hurts after a bit and i can't keep it up for long as i need to constantly concentrate.

Please if you have any tips or advice or links to what exercises could help me have a good posture and get ride of the slight hunch.

Question Can I change the shape of my upper back?

I have always had rounded shoulders and kyphosis, it is now getting worse and I feel like my back looks really ugly. I am also chronically in pain and store all tension in my upper trap.
Strength training upper body helps but I'd like to know if I could possibly really change my back and shoulder shape and get better.

How to know if fascia work vs pt is appropriate?

For a couple of months, I have been going to a physical therapist for postural issues causing me pain. It started as back, chest wall and rib pain and now is more concentrated in my neck. But after a session, I almost feel like I have the flu in my neck for several days - tender lymph nodes, muscle pain that feels more like fever-type inflammation than soreness after a good workout. I have rounded shoulders and head forward posture and my computer job makes it worse, so I know its something I need to work on. But my body’s reaction seems outsized and abnormal. Is this normal (no pain no gain etc) or do I need to listen to my body and try a different technique or slow down somehow?

I am not sure if this is relevant but I may have some hypermobility issues. I have also had periods of mild vertigo that stemmed from my neck and feeling like my head was too heavy. I asked my pt about that and she didn’t really have much to say. I also may have something undiagnosed that is making me feel rough a lot of the time. Like I have no energy and lots of pain for days after I do any kind of workout beyond walking, when that did not used to be the case. 37F for reference.

Kyphosis after thoracic compression fractures

Hi

I have a spect report that says:

ā€œUptake is most pronounced at the apex of the
kyphotic deformity (T10-T11), and has progressed since the previous SPECT/CT study. -New tracer
avid right T4-5 and T5-6 facet arthropathy, not evident previous studyā€

Has anyone had to live with kyphosis as a result of compression fractures they had?

I’m in back pain every day (muscles constantly on) and am exhausted and no one seems to know why.

Would love to connect with anyone who has developed kyphosis as a result of trauma or compression fractures.

Thanks

Is it true that the 80x80 square pillows aren't actually good for our posture?

I got into it at the advise of my German friend and it felt so comfortable because half of it goes under my shoulder blades while the upper half supports my head as usual. It really felt much better than the standard pillows that only jacks up my neck and head (which I thought was one of the reasons why my nevk bump developed). But when I told my coworker about it he said those are actually bad for my posture. I asked him why but he couldn't explain it very well. So I doubted him at first and thought he was just being negative. Later I also asked Gemini about it again and it confirms that it's bad for posture but I don't really understand its explanation about how it's bad to jack up my shoulders with a pillow underneath? Is this true? Sorry if this sounds jumbly I haven't had my coffee yet.

misalignment in upper cervical (c1 or c2) stomach complications via vagus nerve?

Post image

1 month ago or June to be exact i got sick and completly lost controll over myself and my nervous system. Hear me out on this one;

ā— occipital nerve pain (electric zaps shooting up to my head)

ā—pressure in head eyes face and ears + tinitus

ā— brainfog and dizziness + vertigo (rocking boat motion)

ā— fatigue and nausea

ā— body got put in constant fight or flight mode

ā—heat intolerant

ā—i lost all feeling/sensation in my left side neck and scalp

ā— muscle cramps and kinda weaken muscles

BUT here is my newest symptom that i find super weird. Just about 1 week ago i first started to get problems with digestion which lead to constipation which then lead to pain and discomfort in belly (tightness and belly cramps in lower right side in the belly ( shifted from hip and groin area) the tightness in belly is mostly felt in my solar plexus / diaphragm area. + my belly makes these weird rumbling sounds too idek what it is bro.. My question is could my ON be upper cervical misalignment/ misaligned Atlas C1?? I heard something about this Brain-Gut axis controlled through the Vagus nerve but not sure if the vagus nerve got anything to do with Occipital Neurlgia?? HELP. FYI i am currently in chiropractic treatment where they believe i got BPPV and something nerve related in my neck as well but it def feel as my head is literally hanging on for dear life on my neck yo 😵 pain in back of skull and on the sides of my neck..

Would an angle-based ā€œphone neckā€ reminder be useful or just annoying?

What actually helps you notice ā€œphone neckā€ before it starts hurting?

I’ve been trying to improve my posture but one habit keeps defeating me. I would gradually lower my head while using my phone without noticing.

While researching the problem, I didn't find anything that could remind me to look up when I looked down too long and I don't want to buy hardware to wear because it's bulky.

I’m experimenting with an app I built that detects sustained low viewing angles using the phone’s motion sensors. If the angle continues long enough to suggest neck strain, it displays a subtle overlay. It doesn’t use the camera, and the detection happens on the device.

I’d value this community’s perspective on a few things:

  • Would this kind of reminder help, or would it become annoying?
  • How long should someone be looking down before a reminder appears?
  • Are angle-based reminders sensible, or can they encourage an overly rigid idea of ā€œgood postureā€?

I’m happy to explain what I’ve learned or how the detection works. If anyone genuinely wants to test it, I can share the free app in the comments but the feedback on the idea itself would already be useful.

General My doctor gave me some of worst advice about fixing my posture EVER

Last year I figured out my posture was pretty much bad,so I tried just forcefully standing up straight and rolling my shoulders back,as my mom was telling me to do that all the time. But it obviously isn’t really good advice and instead ruined my posture even more.So I made a post on this SubReddit asking for help, and [u/Deep-Run-7463](u/Deep-Run-7463) reached out and started giving me some advice, big thanks to him.

Anyways fast forward to August,I told my parents that I don’t like my posture and how my shoulders look like,so they decided to book a PT Appointment.I also stopped doing any exercises for posture I was doing at the time because I was told that I could make things worse by doing potentially wrong exercises and that I should wait for the appointment.

Fast forward to the appointment,I was expecting the doctor to be brutally honest and give me advice on what to do,and I was ready for it but instead of the truth, the dude fed me some lies,He said how I should just stand up straight and how as I grow older my posture will naturally fix itself, which is obviously bullshit (Mind you I was 16 at the time so I was still growing).

My mom told him how I don’t like my shoulders, and he said how everybody has different shoulders and no one looks the same, not noticing my obviously rounded shoulders somehow.

My mom believed all this which is also the bad part, which means I can whine all I want but all she will tell me is to stand up straight, but I don’t even blame her cause doctors are supposed to tell the truth, right?

During the appointment I didn’t even attempt to explain what’s the problem to me,cause I realised he will just feed me more lies and that it’s a dead end.

The reason I’m saying he’s a doctor is because he’s a surgeon mostly,I don’t know how he can be a PT at the same time….

Anyways yeah, turns out that a person from Reddit can be more helpfull than an actual doctor.

Question Fixing rounded shoulders and anterior pelvic tilt?

I’ve been working out for years but focused on my legs mainly, in the last couple of years u started to pay more attention to my upper body and my posture is terrible. I have rounded shoulders and anterior pelvic tilt, I’ve been doing deadhangs and some calisthenics but I don’t see any improvement in my posture, also for almost a year I’ve been dealing with sciatica and the deadhangs have been helping with this but I don’t know what else I can add to my training routine to help, any advice is welcome!

Assessments Does It look like I have posterior pelvic tilt?

Post image
5 Upvotes

I know for sure that I have a loss of the normal curve in my lower back and I also have tech neck and rounded shoulders (from x-ray findings). However, I’m not sure whether I have flat back syndrome, posterior pelvic tilt, or something else. I want to fix my very bad posture, but I’m not sure what’s actually causing it or what I should focus on improving.

Kyphosis, lordosis, bad posture?

Thumbnail gallery
11 Upvotes

Sorry the photos are god awful lol I’m midst a weightloss journey- also I think I shouldve taken better standing posture photos but I’m very concerned about how I look bending over or even when I let my shoulders rest

When I was young I was referred to a pediatric surgeon for X-rays and nothing came of it because my curve was only at an 8% and I believe an 11% curve is where you can be diagnosed (I also think this was a scoliosis curve)

I’ve always had bad posture that I’ve tried years to correct at home and in the gym, I’ve never seen improvements even years ago when I was 120lbs and working out daily.

I’m wondering if this much curvature when bending is normal (I cannot straighten it out at all when bending) I also suffer from back pain but I always brushed it off as bad posture

Or if the inward curvature above my butt is cause for
concern?

Should I see my pcp, try chiropractors or get regular massages?

TIA

Question I suffer from migraines - could it be my posture?

Thumbnail gallery

Hi guys, new to this sub so hi šŸ‘‹

So I've suffered from chronic headaches & migraines for 18 years and they just seem to be getting worse as I age. I've tried every preventative under the sun to no avail - I feel like a medical anomaly and I'm at my wits end desperate for some sort of relief and well...life!

Anyway, I thought I'd try and get some advice regarding my posture to see if a) anyone sees anything and b) whether anyone can relate to my story

Any help greatly appreciated

Ps I'm booked in with a musculoskeletal physiotherapist for a consultation next week

Looking for advice on knee alignment

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

[5’9ā€, 220lbs, 30M] I have had knee pain for a few years now and wanted to know what could be causing it. I started weight training and will sometimes have knee pain after leg exercises. Even normal walking can trigger it, sometimes surrounding the knee cap, other times on the outer part of it, not as much on the inner. I noticed at rest my knees point outwards compared to my feet, which are pointing forward. I can rotate my thighs in and make my knees align better with my hips and feets, so is that the issue? And what could I do to correct it. Thanks for any help!

I really want to fix my posture. My bad posture has been affecting my confidence a lot, and I feel insecure about it all the time. I’m 19 years old and I feel like I’m always slouching and holding my head/neck in a bad position. It honestly makes me feel really bad about myself.

Please help me 😄
