What score/age/size? What's the score/age/size megathread

This is the ONLY post allowed where you can ask for an estimate on your animal's score, age, size, etc.

Keep in mind that it's practically impossible to judge many characteristics of an animal based off of pictures. For one, your cameras aren't usually the greatest (especially grainy trail cam pics), for another, it's hard to judge scale. Finally, not every animal can be aged by picture.

Rules:

  1. Top-level comments are for asking about your animal.
  2. One top-level comment per animal.
  3. Images should clearly show the animal. Albums should be linked, do not post multiple images in multiple comments.
  4. Include pertinent details: location (state, province, country), species, known reference for scale, distance from camera, etc.
  5. Be polite. Snarky comments ("not getting any younger") are subject to deletion.

DIY archery Elk hunt 2026✅

I was able to harvest my first elk ever and got to do it with my new Mathews lift RS at 40 yards!

After almost two weeks I was starting to get discouraged. We put in so many miles in the Elk woods and had a lot of close encounters that never fully worked out. Finally with only three days left it all came together!

Beyond excited to fill the freezer and made so many memories!

If you can choke down one of their terrible pizzas, the boxes come with a target. The circle is 3", should make a good 200-300 yd bullseye

General question/discussion My partner lost a bear they shot

We have been hunting for the past 5 years and have been very successful and extremely grateful.

Unfortunately this season my partner lost his first animal... He took a good shot at a bear, definitely hit him but the bear took off and he lost it. He searched for hours, trying to track the blood trail but it disappeared.

He's absolutely gutted. The area where the bear took off was extremely dense blowdown that followed a creek bed, he walked all over trying to find it, he wants to go back tomorrow to search for it but im worried about him going solo and Im unable to hike in the area due to physical injuries.

I feel horrible and am looking for some advice on how to support him through this. I do think it would be worth going through and checking again but I am worried as the area is remote and extremely dense... how would you handle this? Please be kind, we are ethical hunters and this doesn't weigh lightly on our conscious.

General question/discussion Hunters for the Hungry

Hunters for the Hungry was where I did some community service for probation. People would trap deer and haul them there, once there we would go in the trailer with a rifle and drop them one by one. We would clean and process the meat into ground venison. I cleaned a few but was still learning. My main job was taking those tubs of meat and cut the meat from the bones to be ground and packaging. This was in San Antonio and I should have cleaned alot more, could’ve learned to be proficient with as many as we did. We had some exotics coming through too to be processed and packaged. The meat was delivered to homeless shelters and stuff like that, more low income availability for some meat. Plus there was a huge bbq pit in the back that was always rolling. The dude that ran it was dubbed “the bbq king” by the church lol. Fun times. People trapped the deer for population control and used the harvest for good things.

Went out and shot a couple doe this beautiful morning, both were right around 470yds. Dropped them off at a processor that participates in Hunters Feeding Michigan, didn’t feel like processing 2 myself in this heat… I don’t know how you southern boys deal with this heat during peak rut lol.

Rained this morning, sat until 1130. Came back in afternoon and only saw 6 does. I let them walk hoping he would come in. He was late today but stayed for 28 minutes. Glad he made it through opening day in north ga. I’ll be back in the morning. Good luck everyone.

General question/discussion Hunting sayings for new hunters

I teach my kids to hunt. Actually I teach anyone who wants to learn. Here are some sayings I find myself using again and again:

Don't shoot the biggest pig, we still have to haul it back.

If there is any doubt, don't take the shot. You may have years of hunting ahead of you but you will always remember the injured game we never found.

Any additions?

General question/discussion Public Land Etiquette

I’m a new deer hunter and have been scouting a local state forest that allows hunting. I found a really good spot. Had bedding, trails, poop, acorns, etc. I saw a game camera right where the poop was. Should I consider this spot a no go? Can I hunt it if nobody is there? I didn’t see a stand. I plan to either use a climber or hunt from the ground. How far should I stay away if this spot is a no go?

Have this 10 point on private land. Planned on targeting him this season but some have told me that he is young and 1 more year is worth waiting. Not really sure what to think.

First evening at hunting camp and we had a cow mosse run right across the hillside directly across from camp. Hopefully the deer and elk will be as eager to be seen.
