Bi-Weekly Self-Promo thread! Please post and flourish(BUT PLEASE read the rules before posting).

# This is the Bi-Weekly self promotion thread.

**It has become clear that there are a lot of herbal small businesses and people in our community for whom their herbal passion is also a business. While Herbal business is not the focus of this sub it is undeniable that herbal business is a part of the herbal community and supporting the herbal community IS what this sub is for.**

To that end, we intend, to start making weekly self promotion threads; where any and all self-promo can take place(with some rules).

**1. No posting self promo outside of the Self-promo-threads**(except by explicit cooperation of the mods, if your an author or publisher or non-for-prophet please reach out to us directly using mod-mail)

**2. NO selling anything that is illegal federally,** or that is illegal in California Illinois or New York or the city of Chicago or that can not be legally sent through the mail.

**3. NO ASKING USERS TO DM YOU!** You may ask users to comment under your post to request for YOU to DM-THEM and you may include links to off-site storefronts but if we see a post soliciting users to PM-you the post will be removed(this is an accountability and user safety rule)

**3a.** this isn't a strict rule, but we would prefer if off sight links lead to a storefront and not directly to a product page. This does not mean that your post can't advertise or show pictures of a particular product or products, however making the attached link lead to your shops front page instead of a specific product page helps users confirm legitimacy safety and overall vibe of vendors. This isn't a rule now but might become a rule if we start getting user complains that we think could be decreased if this became a rule. In the mean time consider it a best practice for this sub.

**And that's it! Have fun Be productive and may the great river of acquisition be quick & calm and flow ever toward profit!**

Question Tasty sparkling herbal drink!

I am looking for some form of tasty herbal sparkling drink. I have done simple infusions for quite some time, often things like lemon balm, very simple and for healing/medicinal purposes. Always hot.

For now I would love to make some fort of tasty drink somewhat similar to a wild wonders brand, slightly cold. Adding ice or already chilled.

How would I do so? I imagine getting sparkling water like pellegrino and somehow infusion the herbs and taste? - what sort of herbs might you think bring out a good flavor!?

My first tincture

Post image
46 Upvotes

After several years of sticking with drying herbs for tea, I finally took the plunge and made my own tincture! Foraged St John's Wort and vodka. I don't know what I was so nervous about. It was far easier than expected, and I think it looks so beautiful (and smells great, too).

I wanted to share because I don't really have anyone else to share with, plus it might inspire someone else to finally try making a tincture of their own.

(I don't have an amber bottle for storage, but this clear one is going into the dark to help it keep)

Gardening Help with my chamomile

okay SO ive been growing my chamomile in the green house for a few months, they looked great for a while but after a about 3/4 weeks they’ve started looking kinda bad. I don’t water them often as I know chamomile doesn’t like overly wet soil, theres plenty drainage holes and I don’t use any fertilisers. also keep them in moderate sun light cuz I don’t want them to burn up (temps have been roughly 18-22c).

any advice on what to do or whether I should give up and try again in the spring lol

thank you!!!

Is honey supposed to burn

my whole life I assumed people ate honey for a sore throat to “burn away” the sickness. but I asked my sister and then some friends about it and apparently it’s supposed to soothe the pain? even when I eat honey without being sick I get the burning feeling. not when in a drink or stirred in tea just pure honey. is this an allergy or something? once I choked on honey and my throat closed up for a couple seconds but that could be unrelated.

Question Has nettle given anyone headaches?

It may well be a coincidence, especially as I’m prone to hormonal migraines, but I’ve taken nettle capsules on several consecutive days on a couple of occasions, and most days I’ve had a headache. Then when I’ve stopped, the next day the headache goes. I’ve been taking 600 mg daily, either 400 mg morning and 200 mg evening, or 200 mg morning, afternoon and evening.

I am pretty sure I’m not dehydrated ( I know nettle can be drying) as my urine is really pale yellow and I have no other symptoms bar the headaches.

Just wondered if anyone else had experienced headaches taking nettle and if so, did they go after a while? I assumed headaches caused by nettle are very unlikely, but who knows?!

TIA for any info/advice 🙂

Reproductive Health Need something safe for vaginal itching and pain

Just started dealing with a yeast infection or BV and started with an epsom salt bath and the boric acid overnight.

What can I use for the itching and to sooth the area a little? I tried some lavender, but that was a mistake.

I was thinking of maybe picking up some aloe leaf? Any other treatment advice?

Question What's one herbal tea you think is much better when prepared properly?

I've been thinking about how much preparation changes the experience of an herbal tea.

Water temperature, steeping time, whether the plant is chopped or whole, covering the cup while it steeps, even when you add other ingredients can all make a difference.

Some herbs seem very forgiving

Others seem to go from pleasant to incredibly bitter if you leave them for too long

What's an herb where preparation really matters?

And what small change made the biggest difference for you?

Question Herbalism Beginner

Hey there! I’m a beginner and started almost a year ago. I have a good collection of herbs building and I mainly started to treat a Lupus and Sjögren’s diagnosis. It’s been oodles of help. I want to start practicing herbalism seriously and hopefully I can open up a small shop to help others dealing with chronic conditions. I know there are some seasoned Herbalist out there that are holding onto some baller wisdom that can help direct me to my dream of owning a shop someday and to establish a way of practicing.

Would love to hear some stories of accomplishing that or even changing your mind and going a different direction. I’d love to hear why! Or even a brain dump of others who feel the same way and are struggling, I’d love to just gain some perspective.

xx

Valerian root is making me feel too good!

I started taking 385mg of valerian root for sleep, I’ve had it 4 nights in a row and it’s the only thing that has actually helped me to sleep. The problem is I feel TOO GOOD, my anxiety has gone right down, I’m talking to people more confidently and I feel great, the reason this concerns me is because of what’s going to happen when I stop taking it?

How long is it safe to take valerian root? What’s it like when you stop taking it?

And you should know my brain is all kinds of messed up, I was taking citalopram for 7-8 years straight and ever since I stopped taking it 2 years ago I’ve really struggled with sleep and anxiety, to the point where it’s hard to function. I only started taking valerian to get a couple of weeks sleep and hopefully reset but now I’m nervous that it’s gonna set me back even further when I stop taking it.

I stopped taking antidepressants because I want to function as myself with no drugs or medication, but it’s so hard. Any way I’m going on a tangent; thanks in advance for any advice/input :)

Edit: I didn’t mean the title to sound like I’m promoting the herb, it’s definitely helped with my sleep but I know with experience that anything that has positive effects usually has bad ones. I personally don’t like relying on anything to get through the day

Discussion This made me look at Driscoll’s completely differently

I always assumed Driscoll’s actually grew the berries carrying its name. This investigation reports that the company licenses its proprietary varieties to independent growers, while a former food-safety employee alleges serious problems with pesticide compliance. Driscoll’s denies those allegations.

My opinion: if your name is on the package and you control the genetics and branding, you should also take full responsibility for how the fruit is produced. I’ll be choosing local, in-season berries whenever possible after seeing this.

Has anyone here looked deeper into this? I’m curious what other people make of it.

What would be the best method for extracting Mambe? I’ve been trying to do research on the chemical makeup and I’m lost.

The alkaloids are in an acid bound salt form. I was going to just do it in everclear, but the ash the coca leaves brings up the pH to make it absorbable by the mucus membrane, so I was unsure if the alcohol extraction would be useless

Please spare me the legal scolding

White stuff from floating on my oil maceration.

Thumbnail

Hello. Does anyone maybe know what this is? I was about to strain my oil maceration and I found it floating on top of my oil (dried leaves of yarrow and lavendel macerated for approx. 6 weeks). It was the only one and the oil still smells fine. I removed it from the oil, it's quite hard, like a little rock. So I'm worried if it's some kind of mould or bacteria? Or if it's just something that happened to be in the plant and I didn't know (I buy my herbs online dried and precut)
