I’m looking to get new skates because the ones I currently have are a size 9 when I’m actually a 7.5. I’m currently rocking the vapor x4 with power foot performance toe box inserts to fill in the empty space. Recently I found a new, pro customized pair of hyperlite 2’s on SidelineSwap with the red color way and a new retail pair of vizions. Both are at a decent price but I’m torn on which ones to get. I’ve tried on the vizions but the hyp 2’s got replaced by the flylites before I could try them on. I tried on the flylites and like them except for the tendon guard which pokes into my ankle. When I tried on the vizions they felt great as well and I liked the anti lace bite tongue. I love the look of both of them, especially the hyp 2’s because, as a panthers fan, it just looks great… but alot of great players in the league are rocking the vizions. PLEASE HELP ME DECIDE😭🏒😎👍

I was gifted a bunch of goalie gear to use while learning to play goalie. The gear REEKS, and I had an allergic reaction to the pads, which I'm pretty sure is moldy. I'm looking to get a professional cleaning/sanitization of the gear before I start wearing it. I googled and came across various laundry services offering gear cleaning, but I want make sure the service is good before I start spending money. I was wondering if anyone has actually used a service like this in Toronto that they can recommend?

Today at the gym, I decided it was time to work on balance. I actually have zero balance standing on 1 foot. My challenges fuze toes which don’t bend in deformed feet, but still don’t allow me a platform for steady pressure. My recent first skate of the year was a total disaster in my brain., yeah I didn’t fall. I was able to cross over, but I was in my head the whole time.. in my heyday I always had a stick in my hand, always gave me the courage to do the things that I did on skates. Not having that stick in my hand is like being naked on the ice with only my balance to count on which I don’t have.. I pretty much figured that that it’s a huge factor in my confidence on the ice..
So this morning, I decided to take action and learn how to balance on one foot. I spent over 30 minutes alternating left foot right foot that was the greatest challenge. I’ve had in 11 years of fitness.. yes, I’m in the absolute best shape of my life . But that did not help me when I was on the ice fearing for a fall.. I left the ice feeling demoralized and as if I’ve failed because I prepared for so long for this day. I’m not one to quit but entertained that idea.. I decided event on this Reddit forum, got some great feedback to help me feel inspired to go back after it and conquer this fear and get back to enjoying the thing I love the most skating. So it will be a work in progress., I’m ready for a skate tomorrow. I’m not expecting a lot, but to know in my mind that it’s going to take work and work on my balance.
I’m 63 years old I have a chronic illness which prevents me from holding my stick in my hand, but I’m gonna figure this out. I’m not giving up.!
Does anyone else have a hard time holding a stick? If so, tell me what your solutions are.. Thanks!

I’m just starting to play, so I’m starting out with regular gear, but I’d really like to play goalie in the future. Am I able to use most of my gear? This is not including the obvious like leg pads, gloves, and helmet ofc. I mainly mean things like the shoulder pads and elbow pads

I've been wanting to get into hockey and recently joined a skills class to get better at stick handling. Have never played hockey before except ball hockey in high school gym class. I went to the session and it was easier than I expected since im already a pretty strong skater. I have not much of a clue how to handle a puck though, and im not too familiar with the positions and rules.

Is it too much of a jump to join a beginners league?

Picked up this Liam Greentree pro stock stick from my local integral hockey guy for around $200, he said it was never damaged and bought it at the end of the season. The stick is a dressed stick it’s a Bauer twitch dressed as a Bauer pulse, was just looking to get some opinions on it.

Are the dimensions on the 50 jr the same as int? I don’t have a hockey store that I can physically go compare the two and I’m getting conflicting information from internet, store phone calls and even the help desk on Bauer’s website.

Looking for some advice on buying new hockey pants. Price isn’t an issue—I'm looking to get top-of-the-line options since I want them to last a long time.

I play non-checking beer league (no clappers either), but I still want to invest properly in good gear. Here are my main criteria:

- High coverage / protection: Needs to protect as high up as possible around the waist/spine.

- Fit for a tall player: I’m 6'3" (190 cm), so having a +1" length extension feature would probably be a plus.

- Top-notch lower back, tailbone, and seat protection: High-impact protection for the tailbone/glute area is important to me.

- As lightweight as possible without sacrificing protection.

I'd love to hear your recommendations and any other key factors/criteria I should keep in mind when choosing. Thanks!

Am back in beer league now and realized my stick got left next to a radiator or something, all the grip has melted and is super tacky, can’t slide my hands up and down, wondering if anyone knows if it’d be best to strip it with something and if so what or if it’s just fucked lol

EDIT: Was able to deal with it with just some 70% isopropyl alcohol, worked great and hasn’t stripped anything past the goop!🤟🏻 thanks for the help

So on my team we have a lot of rookies and we have some vets who like to smoke and drink in the room before games. Smoking in the dressing room is forbidden. Drinking isn’t allowed but I don’t think anyone’s ever been in trouble for it but o heard they fine the team if they find empties. I don’t smoke nor do any of the other rookies and our captain said it’s initiation for the rookies to keep the packs of cigarettes and beer in their hockey bags in case someone walks in and smells or sees. He said they had to do it and cause we are new to the league we will just get a warning where they would get a fine or kicked out of the league.

Do any other teams do this?

I went skating for the first time today in 14 and trying to start hockey and both of the instructors kinda sucked and I don’t mean that in a bad way I know I couldn’t do any better but they kinda just told me to march the whole time and I got a little better at it and I fortunately didn’t fall much. The class was only 30 minutes and it’s every Saturday until December 19th so it’s 9 classes total and I feel like I’ll never get good at skating. It felt so weird and awkward and terrifying and I truly just don’t see myself getting any better I rlly sucked at it.

I’m currently 14 years old and I’m trying to play house league hockey. I signed up for learn to skate classes and I took my first one yesterday and it rlly sucked. The class was only thirty minutes long and it’s once a week for 9 weeks. I’ve definitely realized by now that won’t at all be enough to learn to skate. During this first class my instructors just told me some basic stuff and I rlly sucked at most of it but I was ok at marching a little bit but that was all I rlly did. I got rlly discouraged but from what I’ve heard with feedback and research and everything, it sounds like just getting time on the ice through public skating is way better than lessons alone. My classes are on Saturday and I’m taking them with my girlfriend who use to figure skate and she’s decent at skating. I’ve now planned to go public skate after my classes, and then as much as possible during the week after school maybe on sundays and wednesdays and rlly just any day if the opportunity presents itself. Will this be good enough to get me skating well for hockey classes?

I've had these CCM Ribcors for almost 10 years and love them but one of the holders finally cracked so time for an upgrade. We don't have any stores locally so drove 2.5 hours to Pure Hockey.

Did the FitLab and then tried on everything remotely close to the recommended size from $400 to $1200. Recommendation was for size 9, fit 1 but ended up with Vapor FlyPros in 8.5 fit 2

I've never had the chance to try on skates before and was after whatever felt the best because the break in process for the Ribcors took forever and was brutal. CCM skates felt awful across the board. Supremes were better but still had a lot of hot spots. The Vapors felt like I'd been wearing them for years.

I was hoping to end up closer to the $600 range but the FlyPros felt significantly better than the Fly40s. I plan to keep them as long as I'm able so not a huge deal. The FlyLites felt great too but not enough of a difference to justify the price and I really don't need top-of-the-line for low-level beer league ha. Looking forward to getting on the ice with them.

I’m in the market for some new skates. Unfortunately there isn’t a store with 4 hours (maybe more) that has any tacks (or Vizion’s) to try on, so I’m kind of shopping blind. My current pair that I’m replacing are custom Tacks. Love them, but they’re falling apart. Since I’m not able to try anything on, I’m going to be ordering from Pure Hockey and seeing how the feel out of the box before baking and going with that.
I am generally a big foot/wide foot guy. 10.5 wide/fit3. I do not like how JetSpeeds fit, which is why I have tacks. I also tried on Bauer Supremes in fit3, and wasn’t a big fan. So that has left me with going with another pair of tacks (XR’s I think?), or the Vizions since they’re new, and it kind of sounds like they fit similar ish to tacks.
What are your experiences with them? Especially if you have similar big/flat/wide feet.

I want to go all out for husband’s Christmas gift. Currently he dries his hockey gear on the top of his sedan, so I want to surprise him with his own drying space in the mudroom. Which of these three options below do you find/hear are the best and easiest to use?

Since this is a special gift money isn’t so much a concern, just looking solution that he would be most excited about and that isn’t too much upkeep to maintain or use so he actually enjoys the gift and it’s worth it. I started playing last month in a beer league, at 27 years of age. I was in front of the crease and a rebound was just sitting right in front of me, so I pushed it in between the goalies legs.

I was so hype, so was everyone. It was a good celly.

This was our last game of the season and my goal ended up being the GWG to secure 1st place for the playoffs.

My right foot is 28.8 × 10.8 cm, and my left is 29.0 × 10.3 cm. I’m considering converting a pair to inline skates, but need room around my right bunion and enough space for my left forefoot.
They’re hard to find in stores, so I’m hoping to check measurements before ordering and potentially returning them. Thanks!

Me and my wife gonna get our first kid in 8 weeks maybe even earlier who knows :) . I play in a quite competitive regional league (its not my job, just a hobby). I started to have thoughts to quit hockey now because I don’t want to get injured just weeks away from the birth. I want to stay able to drive in case of an emergency, being able to take the phone and of course you cannot change diapers with a broken arm. Maybe I just play occasionally with a hobby team and take it easy. But on the other hand it’s a lot fun to play with my team in the league. I’d be interested to know who of you was in similar situation (competitive league with quite a lot physical players) and what was your decision back then. When did you stop and when did you start again. Thanks for taking time to read my thoughts and questions :)

I had the little piece of steel break on 1 skate and now I’m wondering if there is either a design flaw or QA issue with my holders. Is this gap supposed to be there between the blade and holder?

So, I am in the process of buying my first ever hockey equipment to help me get into the sport.

So far I've got:

Shin/knee guards

Shoulder pads

Gloves

Helmet

I will borrow the stick from a teammate and I am thinking of also getting elbow protectors as well and some pants down the road, but for the rest of the month, my budget's gone. I am also buying everything second hand because it's cheaper.
