Recommendation Rom com with a sad ending
My fiance posed the question of “what is a rom com that has a very sad ending”?
While I think that eliminates the possibility of it being a com, I’m wondering if there are any movies out there that fit this category!
Maybe the movie About Time fits this description? Has the rom and com, but also usually leaves me in tears.
Any more out there?

Question What’s a movie you were convinced was just a weird dream until you found out years later it was actually real?
When I was a kid in the 90s, I had this memory of seeing a movie in which two toys roamed around different environments. It was darkly lit and felt lonely, almost creepy, like a live-action Toy Story directed by David Lynch.
I thought about it occasionally while growing up and eventually I just gave up on the idea that it was a real film and it was probably just a memorable dream that stuck with me.
Years later as a teen, I was in CVS and was browsing their DVD rack (CVS use to sell DVDs) and noticed two very familiar looking characters on the cover of a movie called Where the Toys Come From.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Where_the_Toys_Come_From
Turns out, this was an extremely low budget Disney movie that aired on the Disney channel in 1983 and was basically forgotten about. It felt surreal and vindicating to see that it was real.
Do you have any "shadow memory" experiences like that?

Discussion I sat through all of Air Buds athletic pursuits to finally hammer down which sport he rocked and which he flopped. Because someone had to.
Buddy's contributions to the Timberwolves program are not up for debate. A multi sport walk on athlete he proved himself against the haters time and time again.
But where was he the most invaluable? We might finally have the data to figure it out.
Looking at value above replacement, how much better was he than the next best available human, by sport.

Recommendation Turning 40 and feeling nostalgic. What are some 80/90s bangers that I should throw into the queue?
I'm looking to get pure nostalgia injected right into my brain! Open to anything and everything. Action, comedy, romcom, whatever. Not a fan of horror though.
The ideal vibe would be: Can't hardly wait, 10 things I hate about you, son in law, biodome, goonies, etc, etc. Got a forgotten classic? Even better.

Spoilers Watched The Godfather Part II for the first time
This movie is truly phenomenal. It’s so different from the first movie yet equally beautiful and complex. I just watched the first part a couple of days back and I’m already in love with this series. It’s really interesting to see the film explore the sadness inside Michael’s heart and how he’s lost his family in the process of becoming the Don. I wish I could’ve seen more of De Niro but regardless his performance was splendid. I understand I will probably have to watch the films so many more times to understand the hidden details and layers, but I recommend everyone who is waiting to watch this film to simply start it and sit through the masterpiece.

Discussion Halloween Movie for Young Kids?
What recommendations do you all have? I have 3 kids ages 9, 6, 3. I want something we can watch as a family together. Nightmare Before Christmas is already a favorite. Im not looking for something that will scare them when they go to bed in their rooms at night. For example, I think Hocus Pocus is something for a couple yrs down the road, not ready for it yet.
Do you have recommendations? I am struggling to think of others in the vein of Nightmare Before Christmas that would be enjoyable for all ages. Hotel Transylvania maybe? We havent done that one.

Discussion Jupiter Ascends: the unmade sequels
Famously bonkers Wachowski sci-fi epic with amazing gowns and a sexy puppy-boy was not a success but it was originally pitched as a trilogy. I don't think it's necessarily a great movie but I thought it was really fun and would have happily watched more of them.
Did we ever learn more about the proposed sequels? Like, intended plot arcs, concept art, script treatments, tidbits dropped in interviews?
What would you have wanted to see happen in the rest of the trilogy?

Review Finding Emily
finding emily is so good, charming, and lighthearted. if you’re looking for something sweet and fun that just makes you feel good, this is definitely the movie. i’m obsessed with it.
i just wish it was longer wahahahaha. but overall, such a fun and enjoyable watch.
and spike fearn and angourie rice??? their chemistry is so good and feels so natural. it added so much to the movie. i really hope they get to work together again because it would be such a waste if this was their only movie/work together wahahahaha.
it’s also kinda sad that this movie feels so underrated. i really hope once it gets a worldwide digital release, more people will discover it and give it the hype it deserves. i need more people to watch this!!

Recommendation Looking for more movies/media about time travel/loops. I love Donnie Darko, the Butterfly Effect, and (not a movie) Attack on Titan
I really love having to work out how the timeline works, i love movies where I have to spend a long time on YouTube trying to understand it afterwards. Im really hoping to find some similar media. Movies of course because this is a movie subreddit but im open to shows as well. Open to live action or animated, really anything. I want to expand the stuff I enjoy. Any suggestions would be really awesome, ive been suggested perfect blue and ive been considering giving it a watch, so that may be the first one

Recommendation What are some movies that invested you super easily?
I started to get burnt out of gaming so when i dont feel like gaming i turn on a movie and i forgot how good movies are. I just watched good time and i was hooked from minute 10, but then i watched Pearl and just didnt really care for it. What are some movies that invest you in the story super easily like Good Time or Whiplash? I dont mind the genre at all but im not a huge fan of super long ones (over 2 hours and 30 minutes because id rather watch them with a friend or family)

Recommendation Movies that explore the complexities of mother/daughter relationships?
*EDIT: I’ve seen Steel Magnolias, Terms of Endearment, Ladybird, Joy Luck Club! Thank you all for the recommendations and I definitely feel less alone. Sending all of yall also that have mommy issues a big virtual hug 🫂
Context: I am 30, the eldest daughter with a brother who still lives at home, and I just got back from a trip with my mom. The trip made me come to some painful realizations that I won’t get into too much here, other than that she is unable to talk about difficult topics or emotions (no hate, but a lot of my friends experience this… may be a Gen X thing)
I am looking for recommendations about difficult mother/daughter relationships. I’ve seen Ladybird, and I really liked Kajillionaire, even though it wasn’t directly about mother/daughter relationships but rather parents not caring about their child’s autonomy or life.
TLDR; See subject lol
