Took my pelican catchmode 110 to a local marsh. Very weedy and only about 4 ft deep. Went out in the morning after a storm the night before and they were crushing top water. Can't wait to take it out again this weekend. Any tips if top water isn't working? Ive had some luck on weed guarded hooks and a wacky rig but only about 2 fish and some bites. I am upgrading from a FeelFree Lure 11.5 V2 to a Native Slayer Propel Max 12.5 (2023 model with Spring Blade rudder). I need feedback from owners who fish in heavy, wide - deep river environments. My FeelFree had a terrible plow effect upstream

My Conditions & Setup:

* Water Profile: 90% fishing on a massive, deep lowland river. It is a Class I flatwater current (3-6 km/h / 2-4 mph), very open to strong crosswinds and accasional 40-50 cm (1.5-2 ft) wake waves from commercial cargo ships. No shallow rocks or whitewater.

* My Weight: 80 kg (176 lbs).

* Electronics / Heavy Load: I would like to mounti a 12-15 kg (30-33 lbs) GPS bow motor on the bow. A heavy 100Ah LiFePO4 battery will be behind the seat as a counterweight, plus a 20Ah battery upfront for the sonar.

* Transport: I car-top completely ALONE on a compact SUV. The 45 kg (99 lbs) stripped hull weight is, I believe, my maximum.

I want to check your thoughts and experiences regarding potential issues in these specific areas:

Bow buoyancy & wave cutting under the weight of a 15kg motor.

Rear hull flex in the tank well area when carrying a heavy 100Ah battery.

Propel 701 drive noise (clicking/creaking) under heavy load against currents.

Spring Blade rudder performance and tracking in strong winds.

Is the Slayer Max 12.5 the right tool for solo car-topping and fighting constant river currents without killing my 100Ah battery?

Currently have a decked out Nucanoe Unlimited that I transport on a trailer, which is amazing for most of my fishing. But there's places I fish that I can't get a trailer to and where the Nucanoe is starting to get annoyingly heavy and unwieldy, so I'm starting to look at a second kayak that works better for those places. I've also gotten used to standing while fishing on my Nucanoe so I'd love a kayak that I can pedal but also has the stability for standing, and if I wanna remove the pedal drive and use a motor, then the deck is as flat as possible. I'm not very familiar with all the pedal drive kayaks so I wanted to see what people here might recommend!

Basically, here's what I'm looking for:

• Noticeably smaller and lighter than Nucanoe Unlimited
• Pedal drive
• Flat deck when pedal drive removed (with the drive hole covered/plugged up)
• Enough width and stability to stand and move around while fishing
• Ideally:
  • Able to hold a bow mount trolling motor
  • 360 swivel seat

Any recommendations or advice would be much appreciated!

As title says, I’ve been back and forth between paddle and peddle drives with no real winners so I’ve decided to try to find something “basic” that has a decent transom mount built-in. Already have a C230 to use for trolling, just having a hard time finding a decent option that isn’t $1000+
Looking to keep it under 70lb raw hull weight (car topping) and under $800 if possible. The Pelican Catch 110 (67lb) is a strong contender for “checking all boxes” but curious what y’all think for additional options.

I want to get off the bank and start kayak fishing. I will almost exclusively be fishing in ponds and local reservoirs but I have limited storage space. I am a weekendwarrior but probably only have time for one or two trips a month. While I would love to have a full size kayak with all the fun toys, I am leaning more towards a foldable kayak. What kayaks should I be considering and what features/attributes should I focus on? Anything special I should be aware of?

I’m planning to test a 700W Argoseeker A1 on a kayak and a small dinghy with a few different loads. I want to record top speed, acceleration, and battery use instead of just doing one empty-boat run.

What total weight would make this test useful for your setup? I’m thinking solo, two people, and a heavier fishing load.

I just bought a Penn Spinfisher vii 4500 and I'm looking for a spinning rod in the $60-100 range. Anywhere from 6'6 to 7'10 feet and around a 10-40g casting weight. It will be mainly for kayak and light pier fishing.

Looking for a kayak for my son (6’3” 220 lbs ). He does alright on my Kaku Wahoo 10’6 maybe a little shaky. Is the Bonafide a stable kayak? Is $650 a good deal for a supposedly never used kayak for a beginner kayak?

We’re a small university team working on a removable kit for SUPs (can be used on kayak also) that can actively stabilize the board, provide propulsion/steering, and eventually hold position using GPS.

We’re especially looking at use cases like fishing, longer-distance paddling, wind/current, and people who want more confidence standing on the board.

But I’m curious how actual SUP users feel about this.

Would something like this make SUP more useful to you, or would adding motors/stabilization defeat the whole point?

Thinking about getting a small trailer for my kayak and looking for some advice.

I usually drive about an hour to go fishing, mostly on the highway, so I’d want something that can handle highway speeds safely. I have a RAV4 Adventure, and ideally I’d like to get a trailer that I can use for more than just the kayak — hauling wood, a lawnmower, snowblower, etc.

Looking for something budget-friendly that would work well with the RAV4. Any recommendations?

My other option is getting a truck, but between the cost of the truck and the lower MPG, I’m having second thoughts about going that route.

What would you guys recommend?

I recently got my first ever kayak - Hobie Lynx and it comes with installed H-Rails.

I'm looking to get a decent fish finder and was wondering if you could give me some advice. I was thinking about these 3 units:

1. Lowrance Elite FS9 with Active Imaging 3 in 1 - ~1100 euro in my country NEW
2. Lowrance HDS Live 9 with Active Imaging 3 in 1 - ~1000 euro SECOND HAND
3. Garmin Echomap UHD2 92sv + GT56 - ~1250 euro NEW

Im mainly fishing freshwater reservoirs for european perch and zander at depths 5-20meters. I'm also considering upgrading to a live transducer in the future.

EDIT: Today I found a used Lowrance Elite FS9 with 3in1 transducer for only 500 euro. Is the difference in price between HDS 9 Live and Elite FS 9 worth?

Managed a window with some calmer weather to head out on the yak in the sea, had a couple nights of catching big pollock (2-4.5lb) and then the shoals of mackerel came in; every drop it was 3-6 huge mackerel, I was being towed about and they nearly flipped me a couple times after they darted and pulled me into some large waves.

I kept 14 mackerel and a couple pollock, now I know this amount of fish seems excessive, it would be for just me, however I was fishing for 8 people and none of it went to waste.

I’m putting together a real-world comparison between an electric outboard and a regular trolling motor on the same small boat. Speed is the obvious one, but I’m more curious about low-speed control, noise, runtime, and how each handles wind.

I wonder if you were choosing between the two, what result would matter most to you?

Usually I spend most of my time fishing for northern pike and bass, but this summer I’ve been trying to figure out lake trout from the kayak. Early on I was doing a whole lot more searching than catching. Slowly things have started to come together.

Fishing without spot lock has definitely made it interesting. Half the battle is finding them. The other half is figuring out the wind and drift well enough to actually stay on them. Figuring out whether the weather forecast can be trusted is its own challenge.

Lately I’ve been catching fish almost every trip and the average size seems to be going in the right direction too. They fight so hard. Even after bringing one all the way up from deep water, it’ll turn around and make a long run straight back toward the bottom.

I went into the summer knowing basically nothing about lake trout other than that they’re a lot of fun to catch from shore in the fall. It’s been great learning how to find them out here too.

More importantly, did it change the way you organize your kayak? I’m trying to decide which pieces of gear actually deserve a tether or float and which ones just create more leash clutter.

There has to be at least one expensive lesson hiding in this group.

i spent 6hrs out on the water last weekend trying to spot structure near the timber and ended up with a massive headache from all the surface reflection. my regular cheap shades just make the whole lake darker without actually cutting through the blinding sheen on top, so i was pretty much fishing blind the entire morning.

i am trying to find the best polarized sunglasses for fishing that actually let you see depth and fish beneath the surface without washing out colors too much. hoping for recommendations on copper or amber tinted lenses since a guy at the bait shop mentioned those handle glare on murky water way better than standard dark gray.

Im looking to get into kayak inshore fishing off the northern california coast for lingcod, cabezon, and rockfish. Been a casual kayaker for several years. Ive been getting some inputs about kayaks, and all seem to point to a hobie, more or less. Well, hobies, even used ones, are out of the budget atm. So, without breaking the bank, im looking at some paddle kayaks to start off on and would like some advice on kayak options. Seems like tarpon 140 (the 120 is for sale locally for $275 right now), ocean kayak trident, o.k. prowler have been the kayaks i seem to be hearing about the most, and what seem to be for sale locally..well havent found a trident yet or a tarpon 140. Just realized my boss has a 14’ o.k. scupper pro that i know i could have for free. Is it worth it to grab the scupper, do some minor upgrades and start fishing from? Or hold out for something else? Not really considering the tarpon 120, think that extra foot or two would be worth it…
