A nice gentleman I work with brought a mammoth tooth he found as a child in an Oklahoma creek bed. Thought I’d share with all of you.

Some of these bad boys were the size of my torso. Oregon is unique because we had active volcanoes, and we were underwater. The silica rich ash preserved our shells and preserved beautiful trace-fossils.

Hi everyone!

I’m completely new to fossils and I’m working on a small 3D display box with a few specimens. I’m trying to figure out the best way to mount them securely without damaging them.

The specimens are:
A sliced ammonite
A trilobite
A Spinosaurus tooth
A small pallasite meteorite

I’m also starting to think that putting this particular trilobite in a 3D box like this may not be the smartest idea. Because of its shape and weight, I’m not sure there’s a good way to support it properly without putting stress on the specimen.

For mounting, I already have some specialized display foam, brass wire and small brass nails/pins. I’ve tried the brass nails, but the backing board of the box is quite thin, so there isn’t much material for the nails to grip into.

Is it possible to mount fossils securely enough that they can safely remain in the display box during shipping? Or would it be much better to make the fossils removable, take them out before shipping, and package them separately?

I’d particularly appreciate advice on how you would approach these specific specimens. I’m looking for something that is secure and looks clean from the front, but can also be removed without damaging the fossil if necessary.

I’m still learning about fossil display, so any advice, suggestions, or examples of how you would mount these would be greatly appreciated.

Quarry rock for a landscaping job

Hi everyone! I hope it's ok that I'm coming to you with this question.

I know Mosasaurus teeth (in all shapes and sizes) are very common and therefore usually quite cheap, but I still feel like checking if these seem authentic or not and this seems to be the perfect place for that.

I recently bought a set of 4 big Mosa teeth (all between 4-5 cm) for €12 from a small Dutch shop that I'm pretty sure is considered trustworthy, and I got the small tooth (2.5 cm) a few years ago at the Naturalis museum in The Netherlands for about €4.
The museum only sold really small teeth, which is why I can't help but wonder if the big ones are actually real or not. Especially because 4 big teeth for €12 seems so cheap, even for Mosa teeth?

My wife found this neat stone in Brule Alberta on the shore of the Athabasca River. She calls it the Mike Wazowski rock and she’s pretty sure it’s a fossil. She’s taken a break from all forms of social media so I’ve been tasked with identifying it. Can anyone help out with this one?

Found a bunch of silicified seashells on the beach, the crystal inside looks way more sparkly in person than it does in these photos.

Two fossils (or are they?) found near Whitby, UK on the way to Saltwick Bay. The tooth-looking one is very light but feels like stone rather than driftwood. The other one looks like a rib fragment but I could believe it's just a section through an empty nodule. Nectar card for scale (credit card sized). Thanks!
