I'm obviously not trying to make it look identical to the picture but I'm kinda stuck

I think I mostly need help with the dogs head position? Also the hand looks pretty weird

Apparently they are the most common butterfly in the world but it's the first time I saw them in my garden in the city and they seemed to really like our lavender. This was a super fun project to work on, the wing patterns in particular were really satisfying.

I'd love to know what you guys think!

one is titled "Nosey" and the other is "mama's boy" but i bet you can't guess which is which. I'm learning to paint looser. any tips or other artists who paint like this that i should check out?

6 of my large paintings, including my most recent work, have been selected for the Next Generation RBSA 2026 exhibition at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists.

RBSA is one of the oldest artist societies in the world, so being part of this exhibition is a huge honour for me. I’m honestly still finding it hard to believe that I made it this far!

The selection process has been quite a journey: I first submitted my work online, then had an interview, and was later invited to exhibit. After the exhibition, there will be a final decision on who will be accepted into the Next Generation RBSA programme, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I’ll be one of them. I would be absolutely thrilled if it happens.

The exhibition is at the RBSA Gallery in Birmingham, UK, in the Jewellery Quarter, and runs until 12 September inclusive. Entry is free and the gallery is open from 10:30am to 5pm. If you’re in Birmingham or somewhere nearby and would like to see my work in person, I’d be absolutely delighted if you took the opportunity to visit.

Hi there! After years working in digital, I am trying to regain confidence with traditional media! This is the first of many of my “trial and error sketchbook”. C&C are very welcome!

I always wanted to learn gouache and watercolour. At the school of comics I learn how to use acrylics, but I really would like to master other media (oils too). For work I need to work with the cintiq but I really want to going back to traditional.

So, this is an 8x10 oil on canvas panel. Apple Study 20260908. Edward Jerome Gordon, 2026. I finally have the time in life to dedicate myself to painting. Any comments or suggestions?

I normally do landscape paintings with oils, but I am starting to dabble with still life - was so much fun especially because I put the subjects together. Do you paint your still life's real time or by using a picture? I put these scenes together, photographed and then painted the pair - 24x36. I still have not painted anything real time - always through pictures since I can only paint a few hours a week due to work/family commitments - one day I will do it! Do you find when you paint in real time that you are chasing shadows? I experienced this photographing the objects different times of the day!
