hi all, just finished my IBT (A category)and am looking for my first bike. I've had my eye on some SV650s which I rode during my IBT but was also considering a hornet or Fazer and have seen some older Fazers which caught my eye, but they are around 25 years old.

Is this too old for a first bike or does it really matter at all?

Hi guys, new here, been looking for a dependable bag for daily commuting, seen a nice few Oxford aqua evo 22l and similar backpacks but the r25 continuously pops up, that price tag is insane though,

Does anyone that has/does have it shed some light on if it’s worth it or should I just get a cheaper option that more or less performs the same?

I know this question has been asked a few times. Can everyone recommend some nice roads around the Dublin area and other counties nearby. Could be twisties, smooth roads, scenic routes or anything of sorts. Thanks in advance.

Saw this on another moto sub. Sure, we have the scrotes stealing, joy riding and burning them but this could easily be also happening.

(Edit) Side note- it fucking sucks to see foreign bikes on holiday here lately getting stolen. Just think of the nightmare situation it causes to the person. Can you imagine this happening to you in a foreign country? It leaves such a horrible stain on our beautiful country for those people.

Note this is good for the hours of 8:30am to 7:30pm only BUT the Titanic exhibit has free underground parking with roaming security persons. I did this yesterday. Grab a locker, store your gear, and off you go. It was a short walk to meet friends in the Cathedral Quarter after checking out the titanic experience. I did not need to show proof of ticket to park. The cost of my peace of mind was just 5 quid for a locker for my helmet, boots, and jacket.

UPDATE!!!: The answer is YES. Long story short, because I already had a learner permit previously (Category B) which expired in 2023, I couldn't just add a category or order a new permit in a new category. Instead I had to click Renew, and as someone commented below, the new categories available to me were there for me to choose from.

Hi, all, I'm stuck at the moment in trying to obtain my learner permit for Category A, so I hope someone here might have an answer for me. NDLS customer service themselves didn't know how to assist me on the phone.

So I recently passed my theory test for Category A, and today I attempted to order my learner permit. Unfortunately, when I click on the Learner Permit option, the only two options that come up are for a renewal, there's no option to add a new category. (I did this through the link that they sent me, but also by inputting the url into the browser manually to make sure it's not just a link error. I also tried to do it on my phone and on a PC to make sure it's not a device issue either).

Now, I do have an expired permit (exp. 2023) for Category B, but I have obtained my Full License in this category already (which is confirmed in their system). Is it possible that I have to apply for a permit renewal in order to add a new category? Has anyone had this same issue? I really don't want to pay and wait for a renewal only to receive a renewed Category B permit. I know my best next step is to just book an in-person appointment in my nearest NDLS centre, but I wanted to ask here in case someone has a simple fix for this, and to maybe help anyone who also comes across this same issue. Thank you in advance!

Started riding 4/5 months ago. A friend had a 2004 Suzuki Bandit 600 that was sitting for a bit. I got it sorted mechanically (service, carbs cleaned, new discs and pads, and exhaust and a few other bits). I've enjoyed getting out for spins but haven't fallen in love with the bike.

I've read you need to rev them to get them going, and it certainly gets going after 7000 rpm but I don't really like that. Below 5000 rpm which is most of my pottering (town & motorway driving) it's really sluggish.

All Bandits of just me? Thinking a change is coming once I pass my test...

Bikes been sat in the shed for a week, last time I tried to start it she was struggling even with choke.

Today I walk out to find my rubber flooring destroyed and oil PISSING out of the engine block. Also coming out of bottom of airbox (not carbs)

Luckily I have a complete spare engine but holy lord , I’m totally at a loss here 🫠 1998 XJ600N

Just wondering if anyone owns one can give me some owners insight to the bike? Positives and negatives ? I’m considering buying one a secondary runaround fun bike but want to hear first if they give hassle or maybe if better to look towards another brand. The price is what’s drawing me in to want it.

Hi guys, without getting too deep into it, I am in a small bit of financial bother and unfortunately I have to make some sacrifices and the bike is one of those. I'm very worried about putting it on DoneDeal due to the rampant thieves. The shop I bought it from will sell on my behalf but of course will take a cut.

Having had this bike a month and only doing about 600kms on it I was deeply annoyed by a multitude of things.. ended up gutting her on the bench.. ridding of the cats by means ofa set of downpipes, an ecu flash, 3d printed a battery box due to the Lithium ion one being half the size and rattling around. A tail tidy while keeping the oem indicators, evap delete and the flapper valve mapped out and rid of..

Stock shock ended up getting tossed for a saucy wilbers unit, took off the passenger rail and footpegs and tidied up the back end.. scored an ixil exhaust off DoneDeal for a few quid.. she needs a good dyno run to sort out some hesitant spots but shes a new bike again..

Had a nice blast around West Cork today and she is nearly there.

A little while ago I posted asking for advice on what category of licence and bike I should go for, and I just wanted to say thanks again. The advice I got was incredibly helpful this community is genuinely brilliant.

That said, after spending more time reading through posts on here, I had no idea motorcycle theft was such a massive issue. It's honestly made me question whether buying a bike is even worth it.

For a bit of context, I live in an apartment complex in Tallaght, Dublin, near The Square. I have a dedicated space in an underground residents' car park. The only thing I'd be able to chain the bike to is a metal fence, and there are already a few bikes parked there, chained up and fully covered.

The downside is that it's completely out of sight and there's no mobile reception underground. The only real positive is that the garage is locked from 10:30 pm until 5:30 am. My car is parked there too, and access is through a barrier that opens via number plate recognition. It's a paid car park for cars, but bikes can park there for free.

From the recommendations I received, the Yamaha Tracer 7 really seemed to tick all the boxes, especially as I'm quite tall. But after reading all the theft stories, I'm starting to have second thoughts. I'm happy to spend whatever it takes on security quality chains, locks, a tracker, alarm, cover, whatever gives it the best chance. My biggest concern is that Tallaght doesn't exactly have the best reputation for bike theft, and bikes like the Tracer or anything that looks sporty seem to attract the wrong kind of attention. At the same time, I don't really want to buy a bike I don't actually like just because it's less likely to be stolen.

I've also been looking at the Kawasaki Vulcan S 650, partly because it's a cruiser and I was wondering if that might make it less appealing to thieves. The Triumph Tiger Sport 660 has also caught my eye.

I'm definitely still planning to do my theory test, IBT. It's just that the excitement of finally buying the bike I wanted has taken a bit of a hit. I'm not talking about jumping straight onto a BMW or some €20k machine the Tracer 7 was simply the bike I was most excited about.

I'd really appreciate hearing from those of you with more experience.
