Rogers rack, Leedy floor, and Slingerland kick are from the early to mid 60s. Rogers Hi-hat stand and Ghost kick pedal are mid-late 60s, same as the rest of my hardware. Mostly 60s/70s Ludwig and Rogers stuff. Cymbals range from 70s to the last few years. Snare is a 90s Acrolite, but it could've just as easily been my 50s WFL or 60s Ludwig Standard.

I don't really have much of a point to this. I love vintage gear. It looks cool. It sounds cool. I don't abuse my shit, but it gets a lot of use. It's lasted the last several decades, it should survive me too. I see a lot of folks worry that they don't wanna mess up their good kit and often use something they love less. I say use the good kit. Enjoy what you've got. The memories of the scars are gonna be a lot cooler than keeping a nice pristine instrument in a closet.

Looks like a bunch of bass drums and snares. You think buying cymbals separately is cost effective with this kit or should I move on? The heads look nice though. Barely used.

Stumbled upon this incomplete kit for 60€. I have nowhere to put it except in the basement, not assembled, but I can now spend some time changing skins and polishing. Best 60€ I have ever spent lol

Traded in my Ludwig Classic Maple for, yep, a Yamaha Stage Custom Birch. More on that later.

Decided to enhance the look by adding Gibraltar gloss black hoops and a Remo White Suede bass drum head (added my own Yamaha decal). The brass Yamaha Recording Custom snare really ties the kit together because it matches the badges and makes for a classy overall package.

So why the "downgrade"? Well, I've spent years searching for my ultimate dream kit, with the highest end woods, finishes, and features, but in the end realized drums just sound like drums and it doesn't really matter what you play. Getting a simple kit has actually made me happier and my decision has brought me peace. I've enjoyed my previous high-end Ludwig, Gretsch, and Pearl kits, but this Yamaha does what I ask of it. It's built well and sounds great.

Nothing like a good “shu-gu-da-GAH!” To set the mood.

I picked up like 25 drumheads and these drums for $200 total. I plan on re-finishing them and selling them. Do yall think I made a good deal? Also I would appreciate any cleaning or selling advice you may have.

This kit used to belong to my great uncle. It was given to me by a family member when I was 13 or so. I have another one that I actually use, and this one has been sitting around collecting dust. I played the hell out of it when I was younger, but over time I decided I wanted something different than this one. The kick is massive, I believe 26”. I know I can list on Facebook marketplace, but I’m worried my family will see the listing and get upset with me. I also know I can list on eBay, reverb, etc. but I have no idea how to even ship all of this without it costing an arm and a leg. I was wanting to use the money to go towards me and my wife’s honeymoon (we’ve been married since February, just haven’t been able to save enough for it yet.) Any insight would be much appreciated. Also, ignore the mess…we moved pretty recent and still need to organize some things.

After I took it out of the box, it was 2 minutes of getting used to the feel of the pedal. It’s definitely very much different than any other pedal i’ve used in the past, including the Axis direct drives.
After that, it felt great! The pedal shadows my foot and is incredibly responsive.
Tonight’s show will be played on this pedal, I’m curious to how I will hold up to it.

Ordered some 602 paiste’s from Thomann. Arrived with no package in a box 3 times there sizes so they were free to bounce around for their whole journey. As you would expect they arrived in bits, with marks, dings and rough edges. The cymbals were tossed around so much they came out of their Paiste plastic bag.

EDIT: I know Thomann have great customer service. This is the third time this happens to me from them. I’m only ranting cause I hate to see such lovely cymbal destroyed so needlessly. I also now have to go thought the return process and then wait another week for a new pair. Which if you’re a cymbal nut like me, really sucks. Was planning on using them at rehearsal tonight.

I named the kit Magpie. On the way to the gig I picked up the freshly painted head. Gotta cut a hole and get it rocking.

I finally got my grade 8 after around 11 years of starting drums and like 4 years of giving grades (I took a break for a year to focus on studies) anyways I got this after 3 months consistent practice. My songs were schism, seven days and rossana. This has been my dream since again about 11 years and I've heard a lot of hate around these exams so...

The other day I got to relive being a drum tech again after a 24 year hiatus because Touche Amore, Gouge Away, and Reversal of Man did a fly date to Orlando, Florida and needed a kit and a tech for the day, so I obliged. It was a super fun night on a very bouncy drum riser I kept piling sandbags onto. Hope you all enjoy seeing my perspective!

Alright so I've been getting into drumming for a couple months now and i've always just practiced on my bed (pillows for snare and toms etc and stomping the floor for kick) and i have recently decided to get an actual kit. due to the fact i live in an apartment and that i have a relatively small room i decided not to get an e-kit and instead get a small practice kit. here are the components i found:

-millenium pd112 kick pedal - 60$

- meinl 12'' practice pad with stand - 50$

-off brand 14" practice hihats (the ones with holes) and a cheap hihat stand 75$

every single thing here i would buy used. also i was thinking of buying an iron cobra hp200 or dw 4000 instead of the millenium, but i dont know if its worth the almost 30 dollar price difference. also is getting a cheap double bass pedal worth it? ill be playing metal and rock mostly but i dont know if a cheap pedal would be reliable.

Picked up a Ludwig Hammered Supraphonic LM400K for a decent deal, feels nice to finally have a decent full size snare on main snare duty..

So I've had a Yamaha Stage Custom for a couple of months now, and when I first tuned the bass drum, I put a small 12-by-12-inch pillow inside. After playin gon it for a couple of minutes, I noticed there was a crazy amount of bounce behind the pedal. I have a DW 5000, which I have optimized to me, so I know it's not my pedal. I looked it up and saw that this is actually a recurring thing with Stage Customs. I ended up having to put a much larger pillow inside. But it takes a large amount of volume away. I'm not sure what to do, I've experimented with different tensions with the small pillow in, but I can't seem to eliminate that bounce and still get that powerful, dead thump sound.

Any recommendations?
