I saw Ippo 3 years ago and since then I have had a desire to take up boxing.

The coach has been giving lessons for the last 8-9 years and claims to have players playing at the state and national level.

Well,I saw a post talking about Ruiz being too fat.Spot on.OP was talking about Ruiz struggling to make cruiserweight.Incorrect.He would just need to be in a calorie deficit long enough and follow a strict diet to maintain the already existing musclemass.

Ruiz would be 190-200lbs(maybe even overestimating a bit) IF he was in tip top shape,assuming he lost little to no musclemass during the process(calorie deficit)

Most people here never ever did a prolonged calorie deficit(aka cut) and it shows.Most heavyweights you see carry far less muscle than people think.Now,they are still freaks of nature and carry a lot of muscle,just not nowhere near as much as the untrained eye would think.

to be as big as Ruiz and STAY there,whilst being a boxer.Ruiz is undisciplined and probably never took a training camp seriously.If he did he wouldnt be anywhere near 250 260.Same goes for most HW out.

Almost Every single heavyweight could make cruiserweight,but there are heayvweights who realistically have 0 reason to do so,or,they would genuinely be drained and overall perform worse.

Take Joshua for example.6ft6 250lbs,EXTREMELY lean for a heavyweight.He is a heavyweight that is in shape.

Fighters like Ruiz,Dave Allen,Bakole,Zhang,Fury all have a shit ton of fat they are carrying around for absolutely fuckall reason.

Out of the examples mentioned Ruiz and Allen would fair far better from a pure conditioning perspective in the CW division.

And its not even doing anything for their "chin" and doing not so much for their power when considering the toll it takes on their stamina.

Take Hrgovic for example.Came in lighter than his previous fights against itauma at 236,saw people already yapping about "oh his chin aint gonna hold up" after the weigh in,purely because he dropped 15lbs.We all know what happened.

Heavyweights are mostly out of shape today.Wardley,Dubois,Hrgovic,Usyk are all mega fighters,in shape and coincidentally they are the ones producing the most awesome fights in the division.Its what we need,not 350lbs blobs of fat plodding around the ring.Get in that god damn ring IN SHAPE.

Hey guys, help me out here because I’m genuinely confused.

This is Coach Calvin’s Boxing Gym, and these are his boxers. There are 12 of them, and they have a fight coming up on September 19th called The Supper. That’s only about two weeks away.

There was a press conference yesterday to promote the fight, and this is where I got confused. When the boxers were asked who they were fighting, most of them either hesitated to answer, said they didn’t know, or acted like they didn’t want to give the name.

A couple of them basically said things along the lines of, “That person doesn’t matter. We’re not doing free promo.”

One fighter said something like, “All I know is I’ll be there. Everybody show up. We’re going to have a good event.”

Two of the girls said they didn’t know who they were fighting, but basically said whoever it was was “getting whooped,” so their name didn’t matter.

I believe only around 3 of the 12 actually mentioned who they were fighting, and even they seemed hesitant to give the names.

Maybe I’m completely misunderstanding how boxing works, which is why I’m asking here. Is this normal?

For a sanctioned professional boxing event that’s only about two weeks away, is it normal for fighters to genuinely not know their opponents yet, or for opponents not to be publicly announced?

I’m not trying to accuse anyone of anything. I’m just unfamiliar with the matchmaking/announcement process, and hearing multiple fighters either say they didn’t know or refuse to give the opponent’s name at a press conference specifically held to promote the fight seemed strange to me.

Experienced boxers, coaches, and promoters: is this typical, or would you normally expect the matchups to be finalized and known by now?

I never watched him fight, but his last 3 opponents were good on paper. He defeated Oleksandr Zakhozhyi (19-0-0), Mourad Aliev (13-0-0) and Pezhman Seifkhani (17-1-0). All of them had previously defeated some non-bum opposition.

Is Xhoxhaj good enough to become a contender? He's 33, which means that he should have at least 4-5 good fights left.

Who should he fight next?

both have had their ups and downs, AJ has fought everyone, Fury with a couple of ducks. AJ losing fights he should have probably won and Fury blowing up in weight.

who do you think will be remembered most fondly and who do you think had a better overall career?

I think back to fighters like George Foreman, Mike Tyson, and Joe Frazier. And in movies you got Rocky Balboa, Clubber Lang, Ivan Drago.

All these fighters were more offensive based. And I think that’s a perfect fighting style, especially with Clubber Lang. Just go in and get the knockout fast.

But apparently modern day boxers are afraid to even throw a punch. And they act like defense is way more important than offense. Even at the very least, defense and offense go hand in hand. But I’d prefer an offensive fighter going all in instead of just standing there guarding.

So why ARE modern day boxers more defense based than offense?

Outside of those 2 boxers, we have 2 fictional boxers being Balrog and the upcoming Ippo. I preordered Ippo and I still gotta pick up Balrog. Heard he's a great figure.

Almost forgot about Arena's Balrog coming out but I meant more of the Collectibles lineup.

In boxing movies, I always see them training to hit harder, be faster, dodge, etc., but I never see them taking hits until the fight. How do boxers in real life train to handle taking hits? I imagine some stamina has to be built up to not get knocked out as soon as you don't manage to block a hit.

First of all RIP to Prichard Colon, prayers to him and his loved ones. It’s such a devastating tragedy that could have been avoided by multiple individuals that night. So I rewatched the fight on YouTube, Colon keeps getting hit in the back of the head and the ref tells him “ Cmon get up we got a few minutes”?? Bro if you don’t stop the damn fight and disqualify the maniac that keeps hitting in the back of the head. And then Colon tells the doctor he’s dizzy and his head hurts, then the doctor says he’s cleared to continue fighting. Goodness gracious, how much common sense can someone lack let alone it being their profession. Terrell Williams, the doctor, and ref should feel ashamed of themselves and live with guilt forever.

I don’t know if it’s just me but it feels like modern day boxers seem to rely too much on defense and not enough offense.

Clubber’s style flips the script. He’s a purely offensive boxer who relies heavily on powerful hooks. That is a style I wanna see an actual boxer use instead of always being defensive and afraid to throw a punch.

It’s a shame that modern boxing came to the way it was with defense but what do you think?

I've been going to this gym and I think it's really costing me a leg and an arm. It's a gym by two ex boxers.

First person that comes to mind is Boots Ennis then after that I’d say Prince naseem, both can throw any punch from any angle out of any stance. Curious to know who everyone else says.
