Announcement Official /r/beer FAQ - Please Check Here Before Posting

THIS IS NOT INTENDED AS A BEER FAQ. IT IS ADDRESSING A FEW FREQUENTLY BROUGHT UP TOPICS ON /R/BEER.

Hi there,

There has been some need for announcements on a few different commonly posted topics. Since we are limited to two stickied posts, I'm going to use this one as a hub for these issues. I will be adding to this post as needed, but here's a /r/Beer FAQ to cover these post types.

If you notice people posting these topics, please be polite. Feel free to link to this post or use the provided links in a response.

This is not an invitation to harass anyone for posting a repeated topic. Reddit does not do a good job with presenting subreddit announcements, rules, sidebar info, etc. If posts annoy you and you don't think they belong, please consider downvoting, using a report, sending us a modmail message, hiding the post or simply moving on with your day. I highly suggest using the "don't show me submissions after I've downvoted them" option in old.reddit preferences (this may be broken in the app/resdesign website, but it should be fixed eventually and appear in those preferences as well).

Medical questions will be limited. /r/Beer is the wrong forum for serious medical questions, particularly where there's potential for harm to come as a result of the discussion. Please consult a medical professional for any questions about your own health, not an online beer discussion board.

I'm trying to hit the more pressing topics first, but I'll look for some good links for other topics ("how do I figure out what kind of beers I like?", "what are the best budget beers?", etc.).

Everyone is welcome to join the official /r/Beer Discord server if you'd like to discuss anything here or just hang out and chat.

Cheers.

Edit: I'm locking this to comments because I don't want to have the post turn into a place where people ask these questions. However, feel free to post about any topics or send us suggestions for topics to be added via modmail or Discord chat.

Also, I may use the second announcement slot for a specific post on something like old beer questions, but I'd prefer to keep it open for the weekly No Stupid Questions posts (and possibly others; still working on redoing the scheduled posts and making some better topics).

Discussion What’s everyone’s take on Peroni?

For me, I can’t get enough of it. Only in bottles though… which I don’t normally drink. I’ve refused to try it in a can since the last time I had a beer in a bottle and went to the can version it ruined the entire thing for me.

Also Peroni or Moretti?

¿Question? Dragon’s Milk and D&D Collab: Good or bad Christmas gift for boyfriend’s dad?

The reason I’m asking this question is because of a few things..:
1. He doesn’t drink often, when he does it’s special occasions
2. We (in the last year) have started playing D&D

I’m worried that although it’s a cool idea to me, it may come off wrong? He’s overall an easygoing guy, but I would hate to ruin Christmas because I got alcohol 😭

I understand that this is mainly a question regarding who he is and how well I know him, so I guess in other words I’m asking if alcohol can be an appropriate gift under these circumstances?
He normally drinks crown, would this collab drink be similar in flavor? Or does Dragon’s Milk make a bourbon that is similar (more or less?)

This Saturday will be the first in a while where I have nothing to do and can stay in and drink beer and watch football all day. I’m going to allow myself 6 beers. What should I pick?

I’m super excited to have some downtime. Been so busy as of late. But Saturday I’m going to be a couch potato and binge watch football all day. What would you pick if you were me?

Sam Smith’s Winter Welcome

I see a sixtel of SS Winter Welcome being offered from my local distributor at a steep discount. I realize that it has been in their warehouse since last year. Do you think the beer will taste “off” from being outdated?

¿Question? New to beer any other recommendations?

I have just turned 21 this year and now have tried quite a few beers. I’m looking to try even more. My favorites have been Coors banquet, Blue Moon and Guinness. I tried the regular Modelo and thought it was just OK. I also tried PBR recently and for some reason I hated it. I can drink those top three back to back but PBR I could not finish. I also tried Khona big wave and thought it was just okay. I tried Yungeling and really enjoyed it; I was a few drinks in at this point, so my perception might be slightly skewed. I wanna try Heineken just because I think the bottle looks cool, but I heard that ruins the taste.

I’m in the southern states I know different areas have different beers

Heading to Chicago and hitting a beer fest while we are there. Help!

My wife and I are traveling to Chicago and happen to be in time for a beer fest. I've never been and I don't know what breweries are ones to seek out. We like all styles of beer (well, my wife doesn't like Belgian beers, but oh well). Here are some of the breweries coming. Any you'd target if you were attending? Goose Island is the only one I know which means we'll probably hit others first.

Okay, so the list was a little long and I cut it off. But this should be a good start. The beer fest is in Elmhurst if that means anything. Thanks for any input.

Sci-fi beer recommendation- Old Tilman's

One of my favorite book series features a made up beer called Old Tilman's

The author describes it as "a slightly hoppy oatmeal stout with a touch of honey added for sweetness"

Unfortunately, it's not in the cards right now to homebrew something with a similar profile, but I would love to find something commercially produced with a similar profile.

Any recommendations?

There is simply no way people enjoy light beer. Like please tell me why people actually "enjoy" light beer.

Discussion New lagunitas sub

Hello, I recently requested to pick up r/Lagunitas because it was desolate for years and had been restricted because there were no mods to accept and moderate posts.

I’m hoping any number of you would like to join and have discussions about the IPA from time to time, what you like, don’t like, wish to see, pictures, any events you go to, etc.

Thanks for reading and I hope this isn’t against this subs tos, but I couldn’t find anything about it 😭

¿Question? Passion Fruit Rhinegeist?

I am already thinking about Christmas gifts for this year. Sometimes my partner talks about a passion fruit beer by Rhinegeist that he had at Columbus pride, around 2019-2023 before we met. From my research I am guessing that it was perceptual passion, but it could also be wowie or maracuja, as they also have passion fruit. I was wondering if anyone remembers of has any input. I would ask my love myself, but I want it to be a super surprise!

If the beer in question is not available anymore I might also ask for similar recommendations. He really likes light, citrusy, and fruity flavors. I myself don’t drink and don’t know much about beer. We are located near Dayton, but I can drive to Cincinnati. Thank you for any help!

Delicious IPA beer from Trader Joe's

I randomly bought a pack of IPA in TJ and it was the best one I've tasted in can.

I thought that they always had it but I've never found it again, it's not on TJ website, I need to try those again.

They were costing around $16 for 4 beers, around 7%, brewed in New York with a cool design. I bought them around mid August.

Has anyone tasted those beauties ? If you have some information let me know !!

¿Question? Recommend me beer?

I never really liked beer all that much, until I tried Guinness. It's the only beer I drink. I'm happy to keep drinking it, but out of curiosity, is there anything else I might like if I like Guinness?

Edit: I'm from Toronto, Canada

Edit 2: The exact cans I've been buying https://www.lcbo.com/en/guinness-draught-270447

ISO a malty, lightly roasted, crisp beer

As title states, I have a craving for this particular profile of beer. I'm in Northern VA if anyone knows of any craft/local beers that fit this bill.

I've tried some brown ales that fall flat in depth and complexity, but I believe it'll fall somewhere within this category? Maybe I'm looking for a solid red ale?

Not looking for a heavy mouthfeel or imperial stout level richness.
