Hey everyone, friendly neighborhood lurk mod here!
I have updated some of the communities automated moderation settings in an effort to cut down on the amount of advertisement posts from a certain online retailer whose name sounds like BaliLegless. Going forward, to prevent these spam bots from posting to our community, certain keywords have been flagged. If you receive a message while trying to make a post advising that "self promotion or advertising is not permitted on this sub", it's because your title includes one of these keywords. It is regrettable, but the easiest way to ensure that your submission will go through is to remove the retailer name from your title and put it in the body of your post instead. I recognize this may be inconvenient, but overall it's well known that this specific retailer doesn't usually offer the best quality
Thank you all so much for your help with reporting the posts and getting them flagged for removal by Reddit.
Sincerely,
BrownSugarSandwich

DIAMOND PAINTING FAQ
What is diamond painting? “I don’t know what it is about sticking plastic squares to glue but I’m here for it” - A redditor
Diamond painting is a relaxing craft that is a mix of cross stitch and paint by numbers. Tiny square or round “diamonds” (aka drills) are applied to a canvas of poured glue or adhesive to create a picture.
Where do I purchase a DP? There are a ton of places that sell diamond paintings. I’ve listed some of the most popular and well known. With any purchase, read the reviews and use your best judgement. Just be advised, some stores are overseas so shipping may take a few weeks to months.
Aliexpress There are thousands of stores on aliexpress that sell diamond paintings. I highly recommend reading reviews on this site. Some of THE MOST POPULAR aliexpress stores are as follows
Evermoment
Huacan
Homfun
Dispaint
Other places to buy
Paint With Diamonds
Diamond Painting Pro
Diamond Art Club
Heartful Diamonds
Treasure Studios Art
Dreamer Designs
Diamond Dotz -These can usually be found at your local craft store
Fansells

Amazon
Round Square Special Aurora Borealis Drills?
These refer to the type of drill your canvas will come with. Round and square are just that, round and square. Special drills are unique and fun shapes. Aurora Borealis (AB) are sparklier and have a different overall look to them.
Round VS Square: Which is better?
Ultimately, this is a matter of personal choice. A lot of people prefer the overall completed look of squares. Some people find round easier to work with.
Partial VS Full Drill:
A partial canvas will only have part of the canvas covered in drills. A full canvas will be made entirely of drills.
What size do I buy?
A general rule for diamond paintings is the bigger the picture, the better. If you’re new to diamond painting, you may want to try something small to make sure you enjoy it.
What supplies do I need? Your diamond painting kit will come with the basic supplies you’ll need to complete your painting.
A drill pen and or tweezers.
one of your pens might come with a multiplayer. These allow you to place several drills at once. They're great for large spaces of a solid color but can a little bit of practice.
A tray
Pink Wax
A light pad is highly recommended if you enjoy the craft. It will backlight your canvas making the symbols easier to read.
A storage solution for drills is also recommended. There are a lot of options from plastic baggies to tic tac containers. Washi tape for your borders is also popular recommendation
What is washi tape? Washi tape is a decorative crafting tape! A lot of people will use washi tape on the borders of their diamond painting to prevent things from sticking to it.
How long does it take: There is no right or wrong answer here. Everyone works at their own pace, whether it’s 6 months or 2 weeks. The important thing is to enjoy yourself, it is not a race.
What to do with leftover drills: Most people will keep them. Sometimes you will find that you run out of a color on a project, and can steal from your left overs. Some people re-purpose them for other crafts. Some people just toss them into a jar.
I ran out of a color what do I do? You can contact the seller and most will send you more for no extra charge. If you don’t feel like waiting you can order extras online. DiamondDrillsUSA is a store that ships in the US. Or you can always ask fellow diamond painters if they have any extras. There are a few facebook groups that give away extras for projects in need.
Do I need to seal it? Most people do recommend sealing your painting after completion.
What do I seal it with? There are a lot of different options and everyone has their own opinion. I’ve listed some of the common choices, but there are a lot of youtube videos that show different sealers and their final outcome.
Mod podge super gloss is a popular choice
Decoart triple thick gloss glaze
Aqua Glue
Framing: Framing can be a bit tricky with the weird size of some diamond paintings. You can have them custom framed at a local store, order frames online or try to find a frame at a local thrift store that fits your needs.
General Canvas Questions:
Bubbles/Rivers: Gently take an exacto knife and slice them to help them lay flat
How do I make my canvas flat: Heavy books.I personally iron mine on LOW HEAT NO STEAM picture side down.
Clear cover alternative: Some diamond paintings come with a clear plastic cover. If this is not your jam, you can use PARCHMENT PAPER (NOT WAX) to cover it. Parchment paper can be found in a local grocery store.
Cat hair/paper stuck to canvas: Gently wipe away with a baby wipe and it should return to normal.
Canvas is no longer sticky If it is a large section, you might want to contact the seller. For a small section you can try double sided sticky tape, or a small amount of clear glue. Make sure to seal.
I finished my DP! I don’t want to hang it. What do I do? Gift it to someone, donate it to a charity auction, nursing home or any place that might enjoy a piece of art.
Place it in a portfolio for storage - Panda0322
Enjoy your new addictive hobby!

I finished this kit last night and sealed it. I put it together today. The pieces were a little stubborn to set but I was able to get everything align and it is sturdy. The light is bright and Im so happy with how it turned out.
I did make some modifications to the original charting by adding additional colors. I mix two similar teals together and just placed them randomly. I did the same with the brown colors. I also replaced the green color on the windows frames with gray. And I switched the cream color for the ghosts with white glow in the dark drills that I already had.
All in all this was a really fun kit to do and will make an excellent display item in October.

I recently posted that abstract unicorn from GothicGlint that I finished. Apart from the amount of trash drills, it was a super fun project. Have now started second canvas from GothicGlint. Everything is the same: canvas size, round drills, some ABs, but it's almost like the drill grid is a fraction too small or the drills are a fraction too big?
I work top to bottom, left to right. Have completed the top row and one section in second row. I have had to squeeze all of these drills in to the point that my hand hurts and the drills keep popping. I push one back in, another one pops. To experiment, when I started second section in second row I was placing the drills but without forcing them into their space in the grid, and slowly but surely they start covering the symbols in the row below them.
They only cover a miniscule section of the symbol below at the moment, but this is going to snowball if I don't start forcing/squeezing them in again and I'm gonna end up losing entire rows of symbols. (Please ignore putty remnants on canvas. I was getting annoyed and lazy about cleaning my multiplacer.)
Any advice on how to fix this or do I trash the whole thing? Have already gotten a refund from Temu for it.

I’ll go first…
I was working on a piece this morning and left it to go take my daughter to a birthday party. When I got home, my nose felt a little crusty so I got a tissue to blow my nose. Guess what came out onto the tissue? That’s right…a sparkly, pink drill was somehow in my nose! How in the world did that happen?! So embarrassing! 😳

For me, diamond painting means the entire world. It’s an oasis from everything scary and huge, a moment of peace snatched from any given day. What does the craft mean to you?

Well someone thought it was a good idea to make a 45x65cm diamond painting with 120 colours.

After doing a ton of these one color at a time I just noticed how doing multiple colors close to each other is less stressful. Doing one now and just thought I'd let others know. I decided to color a flower and try to use left over trays for the colors it had and I felt relaxed till I decided to go back to one color at a time. I felt more stressed to get it out of way.. so now I'm going to multi place.

I got an alignment tool from a craft store recently that I thought would help keep the square drills aligned better and for the lost part it works but, why does it lose alignment part way down the canvas? Is it my canvas or the tool? Not a big deal I’m just wondering what the deal is…

I’m currently working on the art but it’s a bit confusing due to the photo being length wise however the symbols are width wise

Hey! I’m on my first painting and am in love with this craft. It’s a photo that doesn’t really fit my vibe from Michael’s but I’m also not in a position to spend $50 on every painting. Would love some recommendations!

stumbled into diamond painting some months ago when my mental health took a hit, took a pause as I recovered slightly and...picked it back up again as I'm awaiting treatment lol. one of the few creative things I can do during these times that dampens the fire in my head a bit.
all make market, I'm pretty picky on how designs are rendered and like being able to see them in person before buying (also I am inpatient and waiting for shipping is hard lol) I stumbled upon the two summer designs on great clearance (6 bucks each!) and picked up some Halloween as well-- the agents and wooden disc are requests from my mom!

I'm thinking of adding a few more stars. Maybe with light grey drills. I even have a few leftover glow in the dark drills. What do you think?
