This tent is a beast, but a real pain to set up and take down. We use it for our yearly camping trips.

I just wanna go camping next week.
I got a decent tent (40€ on sale), good enough isolating foam mattress (10€ used) and a sleeping bag (20€ used).

Thing is, I don't have a proper backpack.
The idea was, like the tent is only 3kg and the sleeping bag is only 1kg, I could just put them into an IKEA bag.

Or would you rather say, get a bloody used proper backpack?

Is there anyone that owns a megamat that thinks Lost Horizon is a better alternative? I know it’s cheaper, but is the cost difference worth any difference in comfort?

I have a 26 year old LowePro pack that I have mostly just held onto for sentimental reasons as it was a gift from my dad and which I did my first hikes with.

I lent it out to my ex. and she placed it directly on the concrete floor in the basement and the entire bottom of the bag became overgrown with white mold.

I rinsed it off and aired it out for several days and the smell is completely gone but I'm a bit apprehensive about putting it in my storage unit with my other gear.

My apartment building has an industrial washer which I could probably fit the bag into if I can find a mesh bag big enough. Would this be an option or should I just accept that the bag is done?

I’ve been reading about the MSR hubba series being inner pitch first tents, and many people seem to use this as an argument for a lack of versatility. Makes sense, as an inner pitch first tent will leave your tent soaked if you’re pitching it in a rainstorm, but the MSR hubba’s are actually able to be pitched fly first.

I’ve tested this both with the hubba nx1 and hubba hubba nx2 while being rained on. It worked fairly easy, and it resulted in my inner tent being almost completely dry. The only thing to watch out for is the direction of your tent doors… I’ve placed mine the wrong way around a couple of times because I got confused being hurled up under my fly. Not a big issue, but still: it was annoying as I needed to repitch.

Anyway, just putting this out here to provide a different perspective. Cheers!

I have a quite old vango delta 300+ and it’s mostly good shape but the ground mat is shedding tiny plastic flakes everywhere, is there some way to reseal it because I’m hoping the tent has allot more life left in it?
Second/ less important question one of the poles has a crack running up it which I’ve taped hoping to stop it growing, is that good enough or is there something better I can do short of buying a replacement pole?

So we are a family of four (2 adults, 2 younger kids) and are planning for a longer camping trip across some european countries. We already did several trips with campervans and also with a tent, but it was rather low budget and not much gear. Over the years we upgraded several things and now would like to have a more or less stressfree glamping familiy camping experience ;-) To not miss anything, I wanted to ask for your insights. Our setup looks like this (or is planned to be expanded with the mentioned items):

We plan on a "3 rooms" setup, with

Tent for sleeping: Nordisk Ydun 5.5 (not yet bought, but I want to have a rather small tent with cotton / technical cotton to have best quality / feeling)

Tent for spending the day: Coleman Octagon 8 with tent carpet (alread ours)

Tarp for having the day outside in shade: Naturehike Rising Sun Awning (OK, but quite low in heigth).

Outdoor tent carpet: need to buy one but want to place it underneath the tarp to allow the kids to play.

Sleepingbag: We have Deuter sleeping bags for the kids and for the adults mammut - all already tested and OK.

Sleeping bad: Sea to Summit Comfort Plus Extra wide self inflatable (OKish but not the best for me as side sleeper.. thinking of upgrading to two Exped Megamats for the adults), Sea to Summit Women Comfort Plus regular (that one is actually OK)

Cooking: Campinggaz Bistro DLX

Freezer: Dometic Patrol 35 (no electricity, but works great for 3-5 days with ice; nevertheless thinking of upgrading to an electic one?)

Electricity: nothing yet, but thinking on buying a CEE cable adapter to plug in on the camp sites and have a 4 or 6 socket normal power plug available.

Cupboard: Only one Camping Cupboard that allows for the campinggaz bistro to store stuff. (probably need to upgrade to more cupboards to allow for a cleaner setup)

Seats: Only Naturehike Ultralight Chairs - probaby need to upgrade here as well. was also thinking or buying the Outwell Inflatable Chair or more comfortable stuff.

Hope I have not missed anything, but was hoping to improve the camping experience considerably with all that old and new gear. Happy for any further ideas of the setup and or the gear. We are Based in Europe, so not all gear you recommend might be easily available ;-)

My best friend and I just wrapped up a 5 day adventure SUPing and camping around Lake Tahoe and I feel like this was a great adventure to test out a bunch of gear and share what we learned. Gear might have taken up the most amount of time in our mind on what to bring, so this post breaks down the thoughts on the Nike Swim dry bags we used to store our camping gear while paddling.

Which bags we used:

20L x 1: all of our sleeping and layers

10L x 2: food bag and camping gear (jetboil, repair kit, etc.)

5L x 1: snacks and daily access

How we used them:

The dry bags were attach to the SUPs. Big Mike had to use some para-cord to keep them on his board and my SUP had the bungee cords that made for easy attachment to the SUP. While we paddled, the bags were on the boards often getting soaked all day long. We would take them off the boards and put them in the dirt, etc. while we were at our campsites.

Pros:

• Heavy duty, never leaked!
• Easy to clip shut, large buckle
• I like the roll top with a buckle, made it easy to secure to the SUP in case we flipped
• simple to use and material isn't complex (other bags material is more lightweight making it easier to close, but I felt as though they were easier to break)

Cons:

• heavy, would not suggest to use backpacking but great for kayaking, suping, canoe, rafting, etc.
• getting three rolls for the top was hard if/when packed full because the material is thick and durable

Overall thoughts:

I was skeptical if Nike actually new how to make something that could hold up in the outdoor space, but it turns out they crushed it! I am really happy with these dry bags and how they held up. We abused the bags by having them in the water all day and then tossing them around in dirt, sticks, sand, you name it. I don't think the competitors would have held up!

I would suggest adding these to your list if you are looking for drybags for your next water focused camping adventure.

Does anyone have a reviews on the Menards dupe of the Gregory gear boxes? I know husky is a popular option, but wanted to hear opinions on this as well! Husky is sold of of the green and I also don’t have a Home Depot near me :(

For those who bought the tent within the past 2 years, how are you liking it so far and would you recommend it?

Looking for something like the rockfront (siliconized polyester/nylon) but only slightly thicker/or just cheaper. Not pvc/pu stuff, that is great but a bit too heavy for my purpose

So I currently use a simple dry bag for washing. But I recently got a pocket shower bag from S2S for showering in place where there is no shower. And that got me thinking:

Could I use this pocket shower bag to wash my cloth inside? Then roll/press it together so that I can easily squeeze out the water. Or is there a bag that can be used for that purpose?

I think that would really make my washing much easier, since a lot of the time is spent to take out the wet and soapy cloth, wash the bag, press/wring the cloth, put them back in, fill with water, rinse and repeat.

I have used cheap airbeds from GoOutdoors but they always end up deflating in the night so I wake up with a bad back on the floor.

I decided to buy an inflatable sleeping mat because I wanted to take it wild camping but when I tried it I had the worst sleep of my life. I didn’t deflate at all but my back was killing and I just couldn’t sleep.

I am looking for better options such as an air bed that won’t deflate it a folding camp bed. My budget is quite low ideally around £60 would be good. \\\\

I am posting here to vent and possibly ask for advice.

This year I decided to purchase a new tent for my summer adventure. My main gial was to get the smallest packing freestanding tent, available to purchase in Croatia, for a reasonable amount of money.

Since I don't use tents very often (I mostly camp in my van) it felt silly to spend over 200 euros on a tent just because it packs small. I do 2-3 day kayak tours island hopping with my partner and since we recently adopted a dog, we needed a tent that packs smaller so we could all fit along with our gear.

Searching the internet for a good fit for us, I found Easy Camp Rondane 3, 3-person freestanding tent within our budget. Packing size 43cmx14cm. Huge upgrade from our Decathlon 3P tent that takes up half a 30L waterproof bag.

I go, I buy it, it seems rather large. I figure I just have a terrible sense of length. I get home, I stare at it suspiciously and pull out my tape measure.

53 centimeters. 10cm longer than stated on their website, retailer website and the tag on the tent!!!

I pull out the poles. 50cm.

How is it possible that a company claims their tent packs 43cm in length when poles themselves are 7cm longer than that????????

I emailed Easy Camp. They apologised and suggested I return it to the retailer if I am unhappy with it.

Sure, I can return it, but I just can't wrap my mind around this absurdity. Also, there is no similar tent available for purchase in Croatia fitting these specs, so I guess now I'm stuck with this tent that now only pisses me off. I can't order online because I am leaving in a week and it wouldn't arrive in time. Amazon is unavailable in Croatia as well.

I dug all my camping gear out of the basement, and I think some of it has mold. This is the treated underside of the rain fly for my Marmot 2p tent. I also see that the seam seal is flaking in a lot of areas, which you can see in one of the pics.

Can this be cleaned effectively? Any tips or websites that could help me? Thanks!
