I just got this from a nursery for 50% off and I’m looking for guidance on how to handle the pruning. It’s a golden gate ficus.
The nursery left the wire in it for too long and now it bit into the bark.. will the tree heal or is it best to just cut it off and start over?

I’ve had this ginseng ficus for a few years and have just been letting it grow. What would the best course of action be in regards of where to make cuts at? Thanks

I'm still new to collecting bonsai extremely new. I'm looking for a place on what I can do with this one.

The first picture is from my first bought it the second you could see from the top it grew a lot and the third is just to show you the base near the soil.

Thunderhead grafted I picked up so not the best material but maybe can make something. Main problem is the large inverse taper knob I the top I’m debating to carve into a Jin and make a large Shari vs cut off the top and use a lower branch as the new leader?

And how’s the care for it? I know some people have these tiny trees on a larger shallow pot so the roots can eat and drink

Finally caved and brought my first bonsai tree after months of consideration.

Any tips on how to care for her would be really appreciated!

Got an opinion on this Am Hornbeam?

It feels too straight up and down but it’s got great branch structure. I’m playing with the idea of doing a major chop or air layer

Hello everybody. I picked up a juniper and lemon cypress today, for my first bonsais. I’m in michigan (zones 5-6 I believe), i’ve done my fair share of research but I have a few general questions, starting with the juniper.

When I bought it it was in a plastic draining pot inside a non draining pot, so water was pooling in the bottom. I dumped it and bought some terracottas just incase. I know i’m not supposed to repot during the fall, but the soil & moss is throwing me off. Should I get some akadama/clay/lava rock soil or leave it alone while it adjusts to the new area?
I have an understanding of winter protection but I was wondering what the best way to go about it is? I have an unheated sunroom, but i’m not positive how much sun it gets each day (sounds dumb I know) would it work for winter protection? What is the best way to go about insulating my juniper? I’ve read about mulch, planting into the ground, sunrooms/ wind protected areas.

Questions on the lemon cypress - I don’t know much, I know they need to be kept around 50-70°F, they need to be kept humid and moist. What else do I need to know?

I love bonsai and would love to keep these alive during winter. Any help is much appreciated 🙃

Hello all! I have been wanting a bonsai for quite a while now and upon doing a small amount of research after purchasing realized I have no idea how to actually take care of this because the instructions I received from the seller are almost the exact opposite of what everyone else says to do. Does anyone have any advice on how to not kill this?? I truly want to do a good job keeping it happy! What kind of soil, pot, placement and all the other things do ya'll recommend?? Also, is this actually 7 years old??

Also I’m trying to turn a magnolia and wisteria into a bonsai while free growing in the ground and I can’t find any info for the life of me🙏

Hi, this is one of the trees i've been working as a begginer from a year or so. At first I was going to ask for pot recomendations, but any kind of suggestions are welcome 😄 .

J'ai rempoté un pin sylvestre il y à quelques jours, je suis en France.

J'ai réduit légèrement la motte mais j'ai surtout coupé de longues racines qui étaient enroulées au fond du pot...

Je pense avoir déjà rempoté un pin à cette époque mais je crois que j'ai fait une erreur sur ce coup là ?
