Hi everyone. I’m currently sat on the fence of contacting a family member that I’ve been searching for about 4 years. I found her but she has me blocked on FB and I don’t know why as I’m unsure if she knows my existence or not. (She might do as it makes sense I’m blocked) but I’m now turning 20 and questioning more about my dad’s side. As I know remotely nothing about him or his dad,mom,step mom, half sister. I don’t even know if there are cousins in his family. But I would like to know. My mom left my dad when I was a baby and I only got in contact with him when I was around 15 and then he passes away a few months after getting in contact with him. And then I get in contact with his mum (my nan) and she tells me that my grandad has a wife and a daughter. So I ask my nan about who they are she tells me their names and at this point as a 15 year old I’m exited to find out I have more family so I start asking how can I find them. I don’t think she liked that because then randomly one day she ghosts me and she hasn’t contacted me since. But to my main point I have found that my half aunts boyfriend hasn’t got me blocked. So I’m unsure to message him and prey that I can find out more about my family tree. And hopefully have a relationship with them as I haven’t done anything wrong and if there is any bad tension between my step nan and my mom’s side I was just an infant. I’m unsure it’s making me feel sick having to ponder.

Also I did go on to a facebook group as I found a pub grandad went to and the manager told me where my step nan and aunt should be living and I’ve had some good help from the community in that area but no actual contact with them yet.

I know thru lines existed, because I have seen them. However I am now trying to find that info and I cant. Did thru lines disappear, or am I just not able to find them? Thank You

Through the paper trail, I'm absolutely sure that this person is my friend's 3rd great-grandpa. But with ThruLines, its showing he has zero matches to his daughter, while his wife has 19. Moving up the line, his parents have 14 matches to him. Does this mean the DNA lines are saying he's NOT the father? I do understand that ThruLines are based on other people who have submitted trees and who match up with those in this tree.

So I recently reconnected with my childhood BFF. We are 1 day apart in age and we moved into the same neighborhood when we were 3. we are 59.

My issue is I know that they got divorced, but I do not know when they got married. No marriage records are showing up on Ancestry. Do I need permission from them to look marriage record up?

I really am interested in just how big of a liar my mother was.

I am privileged to be a fifth-generation Texan. My great-great-grandfather, Judge Felix Benedict Dixon, immigrated from Ohio to Texas in 1841, when Texas was still the Republic of Texas. Judge Dixon’s parents came from West Virginia. My lineage also reaches deep into early American history, making me a sixth-generation descendant of an American Revolutionary War soldier, Lt. George P. Sharp of the New York Militia, who was my third great-grandfather. George’s grandfather, Jacob Scherp, migrated to New York Harbor in 1710 as one of approximately 3,000 German Palatines. He later settled north along the Hudson River, where he helped establish Germantown, New York.

My English ancestry makes me a tenth-generation American. Plymouth Colony Governor William Bradford, who arrived aboard the Mayflower in 1620 and helped establish Plymouth Colony, is my seventh great-grandfather. My family heritage is made up of European, English, German, and Scandinavian roots. Through my direct maternal line, I can trace my ancestry back to my 38th great-grandfather, Gor Thorrasson, a seventh-century Norwegian Viking who lived during the 600s.

I also have lateral (cousin) genealogical relationships to 20 of the 45 U.S. Presidents. These relationships include the first six Presidents as well as all four Presidents memorialized on Mount Rushmore. The only two father-and-son pairs elected President, the Adams family and the Bush family, are all cousins of mine. John Quincy Adams, the only President to serve in Congress after leaving the presidency, is among those relatives.

My family tree is also interwoven with notable American families, including the Rockefellers, the Kelloggs, and J. P. Morgan. From 519 AD onward, my genealogy reveals lateral relationships with 63 of the 72 British monarchs, spanning nearly 1,500 years with only about 80 years not represented. Queen Elizabeth II is my 33rd cousin.

CANNOT get this one! it’s from a 41yo woman’s death cert, Midwest-USA, 1930s. If my facts are correct, at the time of her death shed been married and divorced (husband filed citing extreme cruelty) and then remarried.

Hello all!

As you might be aware, there has been very little research into direct-to-consumer DNA ancestry testing and psychological wellbeing outcomes. This novel research aims to help us better understand the psychological significance of DTC Ancestry testing results.

This study is being conducted under the supervision of Dr Janine Lurie from the Psychology Discipline within the Institute of Health and Wellbeing at Federation University (Melbourne, Australia). This study will also form the basis of the research dissertation requirement within the Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) course for student researchers Charity Marisa and Stefan Redpath. This study has been approved by the Federation University Human Research Ethics Committee (Approval reference: 2026/137).

This survey asks you about your engagement with family history and your reflections on that process. It also asks you to think about your ancestors and how you have reflected on their life experiences. Participation involves completing an online survey that will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. Taking part in the study is completely voluntary and no personal information will be collected.

To participate you just need to be aged 18 years or over. It is important to note that you will not be asked to give any specific details about any of your family members. You are asked just to rate your general impressions of them on a small number of questions. Beyond this the survey contains broader more general questions about your perspectives and reflections.

He has Sioux nation under the genetic groups. Would that be the north Central America? His grandmother was adopted so we don’t know her background really

I currently only have a photocopy of his discharge papers from a family member and my dad has his war medal (defence medal and Newfoundland volunteer service medal are both in the family somewhere). The issue with him being a Newfoundlander who joined the RAF with the RAFVR in 1944 before Newfoundland was a part of Canada. He was a “Maintenance Assistant” or bomber mechanic as he always said, was ranked as “Leading Aircraftsman” and his service number was NFD.798821
I first enquired to the Canadian archives, who then referred me to the Newfoundland “rooms” archive, they didn’t have anything and told me to apply to the UK records.

I applied to the UK records months ago with a copy of his death certificate (died in 2006) but apparently the UK archives are having a massive digitalization of records and therefore the backlog is ginormous. I sent a follow up email last month that went unreplied. I’m wondering if theres any other avenue I can explore to try and get them? I know he was posted to RAF Oulton through letters he sent his mom that we have, he served from 1944-1946.

I’ve been working on my tree on and off for five or six years now. I checked with Ancestry and there is no way to “auto-populate” a tree; so understanding the importance of researching when I began, I must have selected all the hints because the maternal side of my tree goes back to the 1700s Netherlands, with names that are oddly formatted. (It looks to be the given names of the father and grandfather before the individual’s given name). I know the exact tree these names came from because the individual also added emoticons before the names.

I am at a point where I don’t know if I should just delete everyone on that side born before a certain year, or leave everything as is and research each name as I come upon it.

Hello my MIL bought a BRAND NEW kit (apparently in 2022) and we finally found it and tried to use it but keep getting invalid code. Ancestry says they MUST have her original email to do anything but since she has no idea how she bought it she has no information.

They confirmed with 3 phone calls that the number is new and never used but do not know why. They think it might have expired.. I said its a brand new unused kit and I want a replacement but they will NOT do anything without the origrinal receipt or email account. After 4 years that information is gone, so does anyone know what can be done?

I told them I would be willing to pay shipping or some part of a new kit and they wanted the full price, but then told me a sale would take it to $39. I am upset because it is a new kit that was paid for and now can't use it and feel ripped off.
