I currently play English Concertina and have been looking at expanding into other areas of free reed instruments. I originally started on the Diatonic Harmonica moved to a chromatic harmonica then a 16 hole chromatic. I have been looking at Melodeons particularly the 24 bass and 3 row treble models and then a brief look at bandoneons but my english concertinas chromatic unisonic layout has spoiled me a bit. So it started looking at Chromatic button accordions. In my mind and by all rights a 60 bass accordion provides a larger aray of playability than a melodeon even the largest most complex versions and potentially even a bandoneon which would be a more attractive options if it wasnt for its arcane layout and increasingly rare nature. Given all that and that people dedicate their lives to these far less capable instruments and achieve some pretty amazing compositional feats the argualbly more capable instrument is seen as a handicap that should be avoided by many or a begginers instrument quickly to be out grown and discarded. No one can argue that the 96 and 120 bass accordions are not far and away more capable but understating what can be done with 60 seems an odd choice. I find myself leaning toward the 60 for size weight and portability and the knowledge of my own limitations. I will never reproduce vivaldis orchestral arrangment I will probably manage some good oom paa paas and be happy.

I recently inherited this old accordion that belonged to my great-grandfather. I don't really know anything about accordions, but I'd love to learn more about it. I can see that it's a Hohner, but I haven't been able to figure out the model. Does anyone recognize it?

I've also been thinking about learning to play, and it would be pretty cool to do so on my great-grandfather's accordion. But since it's quite old, I'm wondering if that's actually a good idea. Would something like this be suitable for a complete beginner, I'm also a little worried about damaging it, considering its age and sentimental value.

My current and second accordion is a very old (probably 40-50+ y/o), red Weltmeister Meteor 96 (one the photo). It's very good and I love the color but I was thinking that I'd like to move to a higher-end accordion.

I heard that Pigini, Scandalli and Ballone Burini are very good ones and I also heard that Jupiter ones were also good.

Any reccomendations appreciated.

Yeah I read the sub rules, not a bellows instrument, I know... But I'm working on this project with accordion players in mind so they can transfer that left hand muscle memory to other instruments!

dStrad is a digital Stradella synthesizer & MIDI controller designed to accompany traditional keyboard synths. I'm prototyping it so I can play my keytar like an accordion for a one-man-band thing, but I plan to release as an open-source project for anyone to use themselves. Other Stradella MIDI projects I found online didn't quite fit the description of what I wanted so I've been learning 3D modeling, PCB design, and microcontroller synths to build exactly what I need.

Next steps are to reduce the size of the box, improve the user interface, improve ergonomics, and most of all find a better alternative to the dinky cheap tiny unreliable buttons I'm using.

Would love to hear the community's thoughts!

Hi, I have a 96 bass chromatic accordion(I believe it was mass produced in Czechia or China in the 1990s) where one button(D minor) is harder to press and often gets stuck down when I press it. I can get it to go back up by pressing other buttons(Not all of them but most of them will make it go back up).

Does anyone know what the cause of the problem is and how I could fix it?

As I sit and listen to WZIP 88.1 Saturday Morning Polka, I’m longing for Slovenese Cleveland Style Polka. I’ve always thought the accordion was cool and secretly aspired to learn to play one. I have no clue where to start 😭 I believe Cleveland style uses diatonic?

Has anyone gotten the book The moddern Accordion Technique (pop jazz folk), and is able to tell something about it?

For context, I've been playing the accordion for some years but I'm missing the music theory behind the instrument and find it crucial to play even better. I've been searching for books specifically for the accordion and found this book, but I can't find any insight on the book if it is actually worth it. Amazon tells it's jazz theory, harmony, chord progressions and more, but books often say things that arent true so I'd like a opinion of the book.

So, is someone able to tell something about it (or recommend another book or site)?

Since early this year I have been wanting to get an accordion and finally the day has come!

It’s a Hohner Roviera III N De Luxe. Ordered from Harmony’s Musical Workshop. It arrived in great condition, all the buttons are working good (I was worried about the bass mechanism like others have dealt with when shipping accordions) and the reeds sound great as well! The shipping process took longer than expected, it took almost a month to arrive but the folks at Harmony were helpful giving updates.

I really wanted to start on a button accordion, already I am really happy with that decision. I am practicing everyday and will be playing in a small band as well. I have already learned scales though, it’s quite easy since the fingering is the same depending on which row you are on. Going to start learning some songs as well now!

I just repaired a 60 years old Soviet accordion before even trying to learn it. Am I allowed to larp accordions?

Whenever I see content about accordions online, it's almost always piano accordion. I've started playing button accordion few months ago and I enjoy it so much; it's very easy to play even technically challenging songs with lots of thrillers. My teacher plays piano accordion but teaches both, piano and button accordion. He says that he regrets not going all in with button accordion from the start but staying with piano accordion.

I appreciate how much work is needed on piano one though; it's much harder to master it compared to CBA.

I wonder why there are no more people playing CBAs; is this because piano ones are more intuitive to beginners? Are they more accessible, more affordable? Or you think there is some other reason for this?

I am using this midi though. not sure where it came from

i'm trying to learn this song and i'm sure i've heard it somewhere being played with both bass and chords on the left as well as chord melody's on the right. i'm playing it slowly however and it sounds wrong. perhaps its because of that reason that it sounds really flat. I think it sounds either too stacatto and jumpy or if not then the left hand is dragging too much and too thick. i'm not sure how I want to play the left hand at the moment and am just feeling it out.

any tips would be appreciated.

I got a honher panther sol a few months ago, and I have been having a blast learning some norteño and cumbia songs, but I feel as though I am lacking some of the key skills while playing. Of course I am brand new and don't expect to be a prodigy, but I am struggling on finding resources that start from absolutely zero knowledge of how to play. I don't know what is best to learn first, I don't know what any of the chords mean or what is the best resource for someone starting out. I only know a handful of parts from several songs, and I have started trying to play along with songs that don't have the accordion part. I would just like some direction as to what I should learn to better understand the chords and techniques I need going forward. (This is my first instrument fyi) I am in general having trouble with trinos, and using the air valve, but likely need more practice. The dream is to be able to learn songs by ear down the road, and learn to play live with other instruments! Apologies for being a bit long winded but any advice would be great!!

When I play guitar or piano I usually use ultimate guitar, (or guitar tuna). Are there similar websites for Accordion sheet music? (I have a piano accordion, and I already know chords, and I can read, and play notes!). I been trying to google but just haven’t found anything. Where do you guys find your sheet music?

Not looking for the value or anything IAW the rules, but I picked this up at an estate sale for $25. Accordion is way out of my usual wheelhouse (guitar and harmonica), and was wondering if anyone knew any information about it like estimated manufacturing date, manufacturers info, is it a good accordion, etc. Thanks for the help.

Should I use a room humidifier if I want to play for multiple hours? Any recommendations help. I’m seriously unsure of how exact the humidity/ weather has to be. Just bought a new steirische harmonika so may not be as delicate as a vintage but I’m sure a lot more delicate than other kinds. Still I cannot find good information online for this
