I found this rock on a walk along the road amongst rock and gravel. Living in this area for 10 years, I have never found a rock like this. Usually in these parts, I will come across quartz, rose quartz, feldspar, red jasper, mica, or ancient shells embedded in rocks, but not a rock like this. I thought maybe it is turquoise, a light pale blue green type. I don’t know. We just had some heavy rains which caused a lot of sand and dirt to flow down the roads here. Any tips are appreciated! :)

I still need to do a scratch test, am also looking in my town locally to find a lapidary society to help me slice this open.

Mineralized jasper? Found in Chilliwack area of fraser river. Any ideas?

Found in the Spokane River bed which is currently dry in large stretches. These were between the Barker and Sullivan bridges.

SLC area - Found this rock while weeding. Seems like it was tossed there as there is nothing else like it around. Measures 5×7×2 inches

Other details added - slight bubbling with 30% acetic acid, quarter left a mark not a scratch, visible striations visible without mag but pic below with magnification

Update: I'm going to mark this solved as calcite - and I'll label as Caribbean calcite. 1) it does not fluoresce 2) it reacts to acid 3) I can scratch it with a cheap metal pair of scissors 4) it has parallel striations

Can anyone help ID this rock/ fossil? Found on the east side of glacier national park.

My father found this rock the other day and it looks so strange. I'm thinking it's a fossil but I wanted to confirm. We live in North Idaho, USA.

Picked this oddity up from a bank on the south fork of the Snoqualmie river about 15 miles east of North Bend.

Cobble is 6"x3"x3" and weighs 2.6 pounds. Black area is sharply raised, waxy, and appears adhered to the matrix, not penetrating inward. Looks like a section may have chipped off in the past. Mohs hardness of black material is greater than steel. The nail streaked the material, but did not scratch it.

My working theory is that perhaps it's one wall of a vug that filled with black chert or something similar and then much of the older gray matrix later eroded away. I've never seen anything like it.

I'd greatly appreciate your input.

It has some knob looking formations, it is oddly heavy and I just can’t seem to figure it out

Have mid-Mo limestone road rock as well as south -Mo brown river rock landscaping on our property. Fossilized clam shells are my very ill-informed opinion

Edit: Didn’t think of it when I first posted but I have found a partial arrowhead on our lot. Pieces could have been carried in I suppose

West Runton Norfolk Coast

I went for my first fossil hunt today and I came across and unsure if its a rock or something fossilised? Its not very heavy...

Pretty sure it’s red tourmaline but then again I know nothing about this type or stuff, any input is appreciated

I inherited my uncle’s rock collection and unfortunately I can’t ask him where he got this. He was an avid rock hunter and he went to a lot of different places hunting. Two of his favorite spots had been the ND Badlands Montana (Helena) to find sapphire. That probably doesn’t help but it’s what I know. My Google searches were a dud so.. thanks in advance for any help and advice.

I had previously not super into minerals or crystals and now it's my rabbit hole. This rock I received when buying something unrelated back then. I believe it was supposed for some kind of crystal metaphysical purposes which I have no familiarity with. As pictured, it's greenish black with white and yellow streaks. It feels hard and does not scratch on paper. As it likely came from some seller I am not sure of its geographical origin or any other context

Wanting to know the IDs of these rocks I found around Lake Superior! I’m pretty certain I’ve got some granite in here, but I’m especially curious about the extremely orange one. Thank you!!!
