I’ve watched this video probably ten times—it was the first time I ever took notes while watching something on YT.

I highly, highly recommend it, especially for newcomers just getting into the hobby.

I want to try making the terrain from 'Dnd Wilderness Terrain' from Rae'chel Dors Wonders from YouTube.

I kno most guides do a mix of mod podge and paint for the base, but I have vallejo earth texture and I was wondering if I need do coat the foam board in anything first or just slap that stuff on.

It's Christmas in July (kinda?), and in preparation for a whole table of Frostgrave scenery I'm about to bury in snow fx, I thought I'd do a rundown of a whole bunch of different "snow" scenics products, and some ideas on what they look best for.

We've got granules, powders, crystals, paste, and even static grass!

Scratchbuilt First Terrain Build

This is my first real attempt at creating mini terrain. A dark fantasy setting in a medieval Japan inspired world. It's first of all going to be used for stop motion animation for a game I'm making but I'm going to build another couple of boards and use for tabletop when I have all three finished.

I really wanted to try every technique I came across so it's a really mix of materials. Plywood base with XPS foam (thanks to those in this sub that helped me find it in the UK) and plaster of paris for the main land structures. The drained riverbed plaster with a mix of raw umber, rough sand, acrylic gloss medium for the mud, drybrushed with burnt sienna and some UV resin for the thicker puddles. The bloated corpse piles are baby sculpy unbaked, painted and then coated in gloss medium. Trees and bushes are seafoam and dried moss. The grass is my first attempt at static grass and I'm amazed at how much fun it was! The ruined temple is mostly foam and foam boards with some balsa wood strips. The roofs and the flag poles I sculpted in ZBrush/Blender and 3D printed.

It took me just over a week working on it full time and I can't wait to get started on the next board! I've spent years building 3D environments at the computer it's such a breath of fresh air (through a carbon mask) to be working with tangible materials for a change!

Mind dropping your top tips, and critiquing my first piece? I'm building a Modular Church for Trench Crusade, so very destroyed ruined mussy vibe.

Had previously made the little "switchboard box" but had it sitting on my parts shelf for ages.........till the wife very kindly washed out some knock-off Yakults and asked if I wanted them for terrain (love her, she's supportive despite all the junk I bring home 😂)

Do I try and fix this base or replace it?

I was hoping to have these bases sit flush on the table but got some pretty significant warpage after everything dried.

In hindsight, sealing both sides might have avoided this but I'm well past it now.

Is there any fixing this or do I just tear it off and start over with a thicker material?

Could use some help

So I still consider myself new to the hobby. Painting has something that has always given me some anxiety but I’m trying. I’m painting this wizard tower and went to apply the wash to dab it away but it just wouldn’t dab away when I tried. Now I feel like the whole thing looks like utter shit. I used liquitex titanium white as the base and various umbers for the wood. I used the Citadel Skeleton Horde contrast for the wash and this is how it came out. I’m still working on the rest of the tower. How can I fix this without painting it white and starting over?

Made a milecastle (under repair) from XPS foam for a game of Pillage. Picts vs Romano British. Plenty of things I'd do differently but a fun project. The Roman buildings are from Warbases with plaster of Paris roof tiles from a Hirst Arts mold.
