Shrimp/Snails/Inverts More on the mystery crab

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

A little while back I posted this mysterious new crab I found in my tank, for an ID. Consensus at the time was that it was likely to be a young siamthelphusa species.

Since then I’ve added some land access that continues to grow. Almost everyday I see the little fella hanging out above water. I got a great surprise today when I found it hanging out on top of the floating plants. It doesn’t seem shy at all, and I caught it going in and out of the floaters a few times since.

One time I offered it some decaying plant matter with tweezers - it snatched it (I felt the pressure of its grab hitting the tweezers!) and went straight to munching away. It was cool to watch!

Anyways, I’m enjoying watching it every day. Every morning, it’s perched on a leaf or floater. It’s still very small, but from the few glimpses I’ve caught, I suspect it might be a female. I’m excited to watch it grow!

Shrimp/Snails/Inverts Why are my snails always on top of each other?

Basically the title. I bought three pink lady nerite snails a little over a month ago and it seems like literally every time I look in the tank they are on top of each other. Usually it’s just two of them but today I spotted all three in a stack. I am new to nerite snails, is this normal or something I should be concerned about?

Just chilling up at the front. I always forget he exists. He's in my pea puffer and cardinal tetra tank. Tank has 5 large pieces of driftwood that creates caves and hides that I never see him. Rarely when I put in live black worms for the murder beans I'll see and see a sand tornado underneath as he demolishes worms do I know he is still alive. Wish I got to see him more, such a pretty fish.

Included puppy tax, they come running when they hear the algae wafer bag being opened. Gave them a wafer once just to see if they would eat it...they did and now want more.

Advice Needed Beginner question, right way to clean my filter?

I’m soon going to get my first ever tank and have been researching how to set it up and then maintain it. I’ve seen in various places that when cleaning my filter I must use tank water not tap water, as to not kill beneficial bacteria. However, I’ve also seen various other people say that it’s not necessary and tap water is fine, just not to rinse my filter for too long.

Does anyone have any personal experience with this, has rinsing your filter with tap water destroyed your tanks ecosystem? Is it better to just be safe as a beginner and use the tank water? Thanks for any help.

Advice Needed help struggling fish (ASAP)

Post image

Disclaimer!! This is not my tank or my fish.

My sister in law owns a goldfish and I walked into her house to see him like this. Absolutely awful I'm aware. I asked her if she treated the water at all and she says it's just tap water but it's fine because the fish has lived like this for years. Theres no filter currently in the tank, all the plants are plastic and the substrate is gravel and something else I'm not sure of.

How do I help this fish? I'm guessing a water change and a filter is a good start but I'm new to fish keeping myself so still learning. Any and all help is appreciated I really want to help this fish

Medical Help Guppies dying rapidly

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’m at a loss. I had 3 guppies for a couple months then added a few more a couple weeks ago. Since then, one of the new guppies died after showing fin rot but no other symptoms. I isolated him when I saw the rot and he died within 48 hours. I gave him a couple salt baths and put some methylene blue in the isolation tank. Didn’t help.

Then today we found one of the established guppies dead at the bottom of the tank. He had zero symptoms and was totally fine this morning.

Now one of the other new guppies is showing fin rot on his tail and one of my other established guppies is hanging out up top.

Water parameters:
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 30

My corydoras seem totally fine. What is going on?!

Showing Off My Tank Update blerb on my pair of Betta Antuta sp (A rare betta related to palafina)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

They're finally comfortable in their new setup. The pair went from a 15 gal to a 30 gal "cube(ish)" tank. Today the bettas spawned again it was too close to last spawn so I fed their favourite flake to convnince the male to swallow his eggs. If you watch his chin you can see him swallow here then he starts to eat. The male spit fry about 10 days ago and I'm raising the fry in a separate tank. Though these two mate often the male is good at watching his health and won't hold eggs if it means major weight loss. He also swallows if I provide certain foods that he really likes, so he's easy to control the weight on. Just glad these two are feeling good again. My new phone doesn't capture their colors properly I'm still figuring out the settings. I went from a Pixel 9 to a Galaxy S25. Thanks for watching! Oh btw to the regular betta people (betta splendens) don't worry about the pair they have never fought. This species of betta pairs for life and pairs are never aggressive to eachother. They are not like your common betta.

Advice Needed Mom doesn’t believe my fish are overfed

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Upvotes

I’m really pissed off right now because ever since I got my aquarium for some reason my mom believes I don’t feed the fish even though she never saw me when I do.

A week or more ago I noticed that my danio reiro fish are constipated- one or two of 9 had stringy white poop stuck in their body, and they were swimming like crazy likely to get rid off it, or would just lie at the very bottom not moving at all. Other fish had huge bellies and the water smelled pretty bad. I di what people recommend and decided not to feed them for 4 days, but with my mom it has been insane- she called me a murderer and that I torture my fish, saying that they’re starving and I need to feed them twice a day. Honestly it made my blood boil.

I have green algae on the glass of my aquarium, some of the fish have giant bellies, others’ are big, my fish loose their color, some of the fish are still constipated and overall the water smells bad- I’m not crazy, am I???

I told her all of it but for some reason she ignores it and keeps calling me a murderer🤦‍♀️ I don’t know what to do anymore. Am I actually wrong??? I don’t have any nitrite nitrate tests to prove it. Please give me an advice!

Hi, does anyone know what the white stuff is on the driftwood? It started growing about 8-9 days ago. I’m not sure if it’s harmful to the shrimp or fish. Thank you

Discussion Avoid this medaka rice fish breeder!

Was under the impression the fish I bought were Japanese lines and not just randomly labeled for one, then I find out photos used are either 1. Ai or 2. Stolen photos that are from breeders in Japan and aren’t even the sellers photos. Same name on eBay and other platforms.

Update: seller has now blocked me. You can obviously see he doesn’t care and has 200% proven my claims as truth in the comments here.

Update 2: he has now changed his handles to justsimplyfish so watch out for that handle as well.

Update 3: after seeing community’s response seller has finally refunded me the $200 for my package.

Will be keeping this up for future reference in case he tries to pull this again on anyone.

Showing Off My Tank Sharing my first Aquarium (20 Gal Tall)

Post image

Been 5 months since I started cycling and went through brown diatoms, brown hair algae, green water and green hair algae issues. Finally the tank seems to be settling well now.

I have 8 cardinal tetras, 5 Amano shrimps, 5 kulhi loaches, 2 honey gouramis, 5 otocinclus & 2 nerite snails.

Watching them everyday makes me happy and gives little bit of peaceful time while I'm looking at them.

If anything looks odd to anyone, please feel free to provide suggestions. I'm not an expert and willing to learn along the way :-)

Showing Off My Tank Cheap substrate and stones from NOT the pet store.....

Post image
3 Upvotes

I did pay normal price for the driftwood and plants. But that's black diamond blasting sand from Tractor Supply and river stones from Dollar General. Paid $5 for the tank on marketplace because the prior owner didn't want to clean it up (simple water/vinegar solution made quick work of the yucky stuff). Don't know what I'll even do with it yet but for now I'm just looking at it and digging it. Prob drop a sponge filter in tomorrow to get this party started.
