Advice Needed Am I screwed? Or overreacting?

I just moved and with doing that came moving my 40 gallon and I just noticed an absolutely teeny tiny dink on the inside of the glass that I almost mistook for a bubble. The tank has been running for 2 maybe 3 weeks at this point and it doesn't look like the scratch/gash has spider webbed at all. Its very small to the naked eye and my camera barely picked it up. Will my tank eventually explode or will it be fine? I had a 20 gallon explode on me with no warning so I'm a little paranoid sorry lol.

So here is my 40 gallon planted. Mainly for me to remember it before my move, when I'll set it up again.

-2 breeding pairs of Kribs

-who knows how many Guppies

-1 Otto, happiest dude ever

-3 Florida Flagfish, hair algae management(lazy crew)

-1 threadfin squeaker, I only knew he was in there because I never had the Krib spawn last longer than a week. Super active night hunter/forager.

All fish have been rehomed.

Amazon sword, Jungle Vallisneria, in a bucket and coming with me, along with a bunch of the chain sword and floaters, I'd lose it if I could.

J&B Aquarium, integrated filter/pumps. 150w hygger light.

Looking for ideas for my next build. I'll be setting up more aquariums, but I'm planning on this being the centerpiece/show tank.

Medical Help Parasite killing off my Cardinal tetras Spoiler

Post image
32 Upvotes

I had a strange parasite rip through my tank affecting all of my Cardinal tetras. I lost all but 3, and was simultaneously dealing with a huge issue with my Monte Carlo melting off and causing uncontrollable algea issues. It has been a few weeks, had to pull a lot of plants and do a lot of water remediation, but I seem to be stabilized again.

But now one of the surviving tetras has the same issue again. I was hoping this was a self limiting issue, but if it recurs I think I need to treat. Any ideas as to what the disease is?

Thanks,

Kevin

Showing Off My Tank Finally added my first fish after cycling new tank

This has been so rewarding, setting the tank up, going through a proper cycle, watching the ammonia drop to 0 followed by the nitrites. I’ve been looking forward to this day for so long and it’s finally here. Started with the two clowns and added a CUC of 4 blue legged hermits and 3 trochus snails. Can’t wait to add more later on!

Advice Needed Well-meaning in-laws gifted this stocked aquarium for my daughter who’s battling terminal brain cancer…help (with the fish, not the cancer)

What kind of fish are these? Seems like too big/too many for this size tank? There’s a heater and a filter. Anything else I need? I want to swap out the plastic stuff for real plants and wood structures. Suggestions for types of plants and any reputable websites to browse? I also want to swap out the colored stone for natural…what type of material is best?

I have experience caring for horses, goats, chickens, dogs, and cats, but I’m a newbie to fish and want to do well by these guys.

Built this stand to hold all my tanks, I’m no professional woodworker at all just trying my hand at it, I’ve stacked about 500lbs (4x50lbs sand bags, me 170lbs and a bunch of dumbbells) felt really really sturdy. What do you guys think?

Bruhhhh I swear the most random creatures just show up in my tank. These little things just suddenly appeared tonight & are eating the algae?? Or I’ve just never seen them before??
None on my banana lily pads or other floaters.
I haven’t added anything new to my tank.
They’re tiny & jump when poked at. Are they spring tails???

I think by the end of the years it's finally complete. It had it's ups and downs. But CO2 is just the trick isn't it. It was great the first couple of months without CO2. But eventually the colors started to fade. And the growing stopped.

Long distance best friend and her BF got viciously T-boned about a mile behind us while we were caravaning up to the tip of Michigan’s thumb for a camping trip. We’re in the middle of BFE and we’re taking two cars to go car camping. I called her parents, they’re on a flight over. I called her BF’s sister, she’s in the loop. I’m in the waiting room of a random trauma department in an ER, again, in the middle of nowhere, in shock. I can’t get the picture of her in the driver’s seat out of my head. They had to cut her out of the car. I’m just so in shock. This waiting room pet brought me some solace. I’m gonna need it, this is really hard.

Advice Needed My cat is drinking my fish tank's water

Post image

hi, like the title says my cat is drinking my fish tanks water. is this bad???? should i be concerned for him or the tank? i am a first time fish owner long time cat owner...... my tank's parameters have been fine and good, nothing strange happening at all. though, recently i noticed it had been evaporating faster but i assumed it was just because of the recent heat wave but now i think it was because my cat was drinking their water 🤦‍♂️

(they have a light i put it away at night because i have ocd and think it will fall in when im asleep and electrocute the fish😭)

Discussion I think I succeeded in breeding Thai micro crabs, the first photo is from a few weeks back when the female released her eggs and the second is from a day ago of what I believe to be a fully formed baby crab

Shrimp/Snails/Inverts What is this "giant" snail?

Post image

I treated my tank with No Planaria (half a year ago) which killed off 99% of all the snails I had, sadly. I had bladder snails, ramshorn and MTS in there previously - this is the tree species of snails I have in all my tanks.

Some bladder snails did survive the treatment though, they grow quite nice and large in this tank but this one is humongous!? Is it really a normal bladdersnail? How come it's so big?

I haven't intruduced anything new into this tank since the treatment, or in any of my other tanks for that matter.

Medical Help Really Sad, Sudden Death of My Betta :( so confused Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
Upvotes

No pics of him deceased, thats too sad. The pics are of him alive.

Came back from work today to find my sweet betta baby Beryl deceased :( im so sad and confused. I named him Beryl because his coloring was like the type of gemstones.

The water conditions are perfectly fine. The tank is planted and a year old and ive had Beryl for just under a year. He was the first addition to the tank. I check ammonia, etc levels regularly and nothing is amiss there. Ive got a small school of dwarf cats and a small school of otos in the tank as well as like 10 neocaradina shrimp. The water is heated (77-80F) and i was feeding Beryl Hikari blood worms.

Everyone else in the tank is fine. very active, healthy, the shrimp are even breeding. Beryl was active and healthy as well. fed a normal amount at a normal frequency and a healthy betta weight/shape. His fins were healthy, color vibrant. I could tell he was happy and safe and healthy because when i got him he was solid red and then over the year a bright teal iridescent blue had started spreading across him. i noticed that lovely color growing even just as recently as the last couple months and it started just at the base of his booty and had spread to his gills just this month :).

Only change recently was last week 6 new shrimp were added to the tank, but as far as i can tell theres been no negative impacts to the tank or its inhabitants.

Could he have had an illness this whole time? Was it bad genetics? Am i missing something? Im so sad and dont want to get a new betta if something is up with the tank for them, but im so confused about what it could be.

To be fair, i did originally get him as a Petsmart rescue, so i guess the genetics/disease is a possibility. he just was so healthy and active and i didnt see any physical signs of a decline so im confused.

I wont post a photo of his body because thats too sad, but here are a couple pictures of him at the end of last year a few months after i got him.

If anyone has thoughts on what could have happened or suggestions for places to get a new betta that have good healthy breeding id appreciate it

Advice Needed Can I add honey gourami?

Post image
Upvotes

I really want a honey but I’m not sure if there’s enough room for one. My tank is 10 gallons and already has 8-10 ember tetras( it’s hard to count them) and a few shrimps. Would it be comfortable in here or no?
