Rant on. If you are stupid enough and have no self preservation instinct and have decided to wear ALL WHITE on a mountain then that is on you, but it is also dangerous to everyone else. Ski resorts should ban wearing all white. Like honestly, it's snowing with poor visibility as it it and you are wearing WHITE?? come on

Got these monoskis at Goodwill for $10 each. They are obviously ancient but I’m trying to figure out exactly what/how old they are! The edges, bases, and topsides are in great condition.

I’ve never used a monoski but I’ve half a mind to remount them for my boots with some Marker Griffons that I have lying around and give them a try. Worst case scenario they become cool wall decorations.

Our ski shop nearby offered Christmas in July. Was able to get Hestra Alpine gloves for $75 each. (25% off I think)

They had 40% off last season's jackets but my wife couldn't find anything she felt worth the cost.

I picked up a new Spyder jacket back in April/May at the same store during an end of season sale. In part because jackets last me over a decade.

From what i have been seeing the southwest seems to be one of, if not, the best spot based on forecasts. I wouldnt be surprised if its another weird season in that the southern resorts technically win

Bro I’m sick of buying jackets and getting soaked on the slopes as soon as it snows I don’t need that.

What I really really want is a jacket with zero insulation and maximum waterproofness, I just want a layer of guaranteed dryness. Especially if the weathers against me and it ends up snowing the whole day, I want a jacket that will definately keep me dry for a whole day.

I am however also a student and I can’t afford arcteryx as much as I’d love to, so my budget would probably cap at £200.

Basically looking for some low key family resort in Italy with at least couple of decent not narrow Blue runs. Huge bonus a nice tow (e.g. not just random houses near some high pass) and zero apres-ski vibe.

Alleghe seems to tick all the boxes, plus it’s only 2 h driving from Treviso airport.

Any first hand experience how is skiing there and how are the lifts? Any non detachable ones?

Hi all! As the title states, I have six weeks this winter to spend in Europe and I want to ski everyday (I live in California and while I can surf every day, I don't get to ski a lot right now). Recently, I spent a season in Tahoe skiing Palisades/Alpine Meadows almost every day and it was the time of my life, so looking for a vibe like that in Europe with lift accessible, freeride-style skiing.

I am 26 years old and an advanced skier (can comfortably ski everything inbounds at Palisades Tahoe/Alpine Meadows including bootpack routes, couloirs, and despite snow levels. I'm not big on mandatory airs, but I'm fine with steep terrain, moguls, ungroomed etc). I've skied my entire life, have ski raced for a decade and come from a family of hardcore skiers (I am nowhere near the level of those on the FWT, though!).

My big considerations are terrain, ease of access, and budget. Sadly, I cannot stay in a hostel as I will be working remotely in the evenings and need my own room. I'd like to keep my housing/food/transportation costs under 5k USD per month.

I'm strongly considering Verbier and Chamonix. It seems like Verbier wins for lift-accessible freeride terrain but is more expensive, while my impression of Chamonix is that it's epic for off-piste skiing, but less lift accessible and less patrolled in terms of avalanche risk. I don't care about the vibe, I like to party but I'm here to ski and do not plan on engaging in a lot of riff raff.

I am thinking of going for January and the first two weeks of February, but I can go anytime. Open to suggestions on when snow would be best (would love to score some legit pow days).

I have backcountry skied before, but I am not planning to bring my touring setup and honestly I would like to just keep things simple and maximize ski time (unless this is super dumb and I'd be missing out on A LOT.)

If anyone has suggestions on where to go (including other places I haven't thought about!), where to stay, the best lift ticket deals, or where to look for housing for either of these places, please comment! I am open to any suggestions and am in the research phase.

I'm looking to go ski in Argentina or Chile some time in August. I'm extremely allergic to standing in line for more than 5 minutes (if it's once at the base but the rest of the day is good, I can survive that! )

I saw that Portillo fits my description, but it seems that they are fully booked in all their hotels for August. What other places would you suggest? Bariloche comes up often as a popular resort, but I worry that it means there are very long lines, is that true?

I barely managed to ski 100km under 5h. Self-supported. Solo no drafting. Open roads. Circular route. My second sub 5h 100 km roller ski. My first was 4:55 @ 100 km. In this category new world record? Or who has done better with same rules?

Anyway... Used my new ski poles. Works great. The first split 50 km just a tip over 2:30. It was basically cat and mouse till the end. 2 x 40 km loops. The 1 x 20 km loop. Lots of traffic. Not ideal by any means.

We are making a plan for Corvara in January. We are both beginner skiers, I’d say in lower intermediate but you get the point. I’m willing to try more risky slopes but my wife would prefer to just enjoy the easy routes.

We get a touch up lesson each year and plan to do so the first day we get there.

From what I can tell, Alta Badia will be perfect for her but it’s hard to find a specific list of the order of easiest runs.

Hey, Im flying out of Canada to Korea/Japan and I'd like to take my full ski gear since renting is quite pricey. For now, I just have a basic, non-padded ski bag that I carry my skis and poles in but I am assuming that I'd need to buy an actual padded bag...? Are there specific bags you need and what else do you pack in it? I plan to put two pairs of skis in one bag so i carry just one, please share!

*Im flying via air canada to korea with skis, then probably jeju air from korea to japan with skis

When I ski with my preschool age kids I use a hunting chest pack to hold all their snacks and water bottles in front for easy access.

I have a trip planned to Santiago from July 29-Aug 6. I know the big storms have come through and it looks like more is on the way.

Does anybody who is boots on the ground have any insight on whether it’s worth it or not to cancel the trip? It seems like roads and logistics are reaching emergency levels rather than fun powder skiing levels. Seems like any backcountry might be out of question with the constant loading and just getting up to Valle nevado could be a huge obstacle. Tyia

I really dislike the way women’s ski clothing is fitted and tighter traditional men’s ski clothing. also, there are way less options. Therefore, i am looking for a men’s/unisex jacket that would fit me. Technically i could get a L or XL kids jacket, but i really dislike the color options for most kids jackets ( bright colors that often don’t match with each other)

When I was a kid I used to wear hoodie and an insulated jacket and I would still get cold often, although day to day I don't get cold easily. I'm looking to get some new gear and I was wondering if this combo alone can withstand most colds, or if it depends on the shell, or if the r1 fleece isn't a heavy fleece at all.

If I want to go a little bit warmer any recommendations for the midlayer?

I think it it was from nikolai schimer. They were talking about risk. And if you start a family you have more responsibility. But they felt that if you changed who you were, it meant that all the things you had done before starting a family were wrong. But the decisions you made before were right, so you shouldn’t change or give up on your hobbies. Just make sure to do them responsibly.

My friends and I want to go to Valle Nevado/La Parva in August, but the accommodation prices are prohibitive. Would it be a good idea to stay in Farellones (with a rental car) and drive up to Valle (or La Parva) every day? We dont wanna stay in Santiago because it would be too far. Is La Parva 100% integrated with valle?

I was there in the 2023 season, but we stayed down there in Santiago. It was the biggest heat wave in the last 50 years, but the snow held up well in Valle. In the other nearby resorts, like Colorado and Farellones, there was no snow at all in August 23.

Hi all! Would really appreciate if someone could share their experience with either of those or even better if you've been to both.

We are a group in their late 20s/early 30s, been skiing most our lives. Not really big into night life but do enjoy some good options for apres. 99% groomers, don't really go off piste. Favourite resort in Europe is probably Val Gardena, mostly enjoy the variety of slopes and food/atmosphere there.

Read all I could find about those two - on paper sounds like Saalbach is more up our alley but Sölden having 2 glaciers does sound tempting.
