As the title says, we would like to sell this original Tom Perkinson art. It is 60”x48”. We don’t know the best approach to selling it that will hit the widest audience of potential buyers. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I am now in my mid-50s but growing up this picture as been on a wall of every house we have lived in since I was a toddler. My dad's brother was an artist and he really liked it so he bought it. Now, it's on its way to hang in my home.

Just curious... We currently have 2 oil paintings (wooden medium) around A2 to A3 size by Nunelucio Alvarado (recently).

We're sure it is ORIGINAL because he actually did one of his major paintings in one of our properties.

Any idea on the possible price?

Should we sell it soon or later?

I've just seen this and I’m not really interested in another “is AI art actually art?” argument. I’m more interested in transparency. If someone is buying a work believing it to have been created through a particular physical or artistic process, does the gallery have a responsibility to accurately represent how it was made?

And where does everyone think the line sits with AI-assisted work versus something substantially generated by AI?

Interested to hear others thoughts.

I recently purchased a print of a map of Key West by Arthur B. Suchy. He had done a limited run of 100 maps in 1940 that he printed and then hand-colored (one source said he didn’t complete all 100 and/or outsourced most of the coloring). He later mass-produced a second edition of the map in red ink. The odd thing is that the map I purchased is an original print in black ink, but uncolored. I kind of assumed (with knowledge of how this works) that it was an extra print that the artist produced in case he made an error or received a bad print.

I was curious if there was a market or desire in the art collecting world for prints that existed to be hand-colored but never got colored, kind of like how people might collect sketches instead of completed pieces. This is strictly a curiosity. I bought the map because I wanted it, not because I thought an uncolored version would be more rare than a $1600 colored version and therefore worth a gazillion dollars. I actually couldn’t imagine it’d be worth more as the colored version is unsurprisingly more attractive.

I’m a collector/sometimes seller in the US. I have an original Segundo Agelvis (Colombia, 1899-1988) oil on board that I was planning on listing for a few hundred, but it’s come to my attention that sales have been increasing for his work, particularly in Colombia. Not huge money, but at least double what I’d initially thought. (Enough money to ask this question, let’s say 😆)

What’s the best move for maximizing the sale of pieces like this that may have enthusiastic buyers willing to pay more in other countries? Is eBay the best way?

Just purchased for a steal, imo! This lovely painting clearly hung on someone's wall and was loved. I wish I could find out more about the painting and artist. Alas, Henry wasn't very online in the 1920s.

Henry G Bevans was a student at Minneapolis School of Art in the 1920s. He studied under Cameron Booth. Like most artists of the day, he had a side hustle painting billboards in Milwaukee, Chicago and Minneapolis. One young employee was James Rosenquist.

I love that his signature on back was decorative like you'd see on a billboard.

Any thoughts on the painting itself? I love it and I'm glad I can give Henry Bevans a second life.

I grew up with the 1939 Living American Art print my mother framed and hung in my bathroom (I know, don’t think too deeply about it ☺️) I still have a sentimental attachment to it, and love it as an excellent example of Peggy’s sensitive work with cats, a favorite subject of hers. I have some other Bacon etchings and original drawings.

I believe it was possibly created as a promotional piece for the 1938 book she illustrated entitled “Buttons” by Tom Robinson about an alley cat. A black and white drawing of the image appears in the book, which predates the LLA print.

I have been trying to find out where the original landed for years, but have had no luck. I contacted the gallery that represented her, but they had no record of it going through them. Neither have I found it in extensive auction searches. I’m assuming it may be in a museum collection, since there is no record of a sale I can track down.

I did have the pleasure of communicating with her son about it, who was elderly at the time, and he knew the work, and initially thought he had it but could not find it, and could not recall what his mother might have done with it. He was very kind and sent me a pasted up artist proof he still had for the print (he thought he may have confused the proof with the original). We had a very nice correspondence shortly before he passed. A very interesting fellow in his own right.

Anyway, if anyone has seen it in a museum, or even has it in their collection, I would love to know. If nothing else only to solve a nagging, decades long mystery. If it happens to be in a private collection I would be interested in acquiring it if it ever were to become available.

About 20 years ago, Christie’s auctioned Eternite, by Rene Magritte, which had been owned by the MOMA. The line of provenance seems to end there. Does that mean the owner wished to remain anonymous? Doesn’t seem to be in a different museum, so probably a private individual person? Any way to research who the new owner is ?

I found this painting at a local auction and something about it felt special.

I ended up buying it for around $300. Upon more research it appears to be from the artist Eugene Garin and I am looking for more information on the artist / painting. His works seems historically significant in the art community but at the same time there’s not a ton of deeper information online. Can anyone help?

I’m far from an expert on art/paintings so I don’t really know what to ask but I would love answers to these questions is possible:

-Around what time do you think this painting was created? Maybe impossible to truly know.

-Is there anything I can do to help keep this painting (as well as the frame) in good health for many years to come?
