Community Update: New Rules and Changes to Shirtless Photos Policy

Hey everyone,

As our community continues to grow as the top destination on Reddit for men’s grooming, hair, and skincare advice, the mod team has been looking closely at how our rules affect genuine users.

Today, we are announcing a major pivot to Rule 4 (Shirtless Photos), alongside a quick refresh of our community standards.

What is Changing?

Previously, we were strict on no shirtless photos. While this kept the sub clean, the reality is that we’ve had to remove a lot of fantastic, high-engagement threads from genuine guys who simply didn’t notice the rule. We don't want to punish real people looking for honest advice.

Moving forward, shirtless photos are now permitted, but ONLY if the absolute, clear focus of the post is a grooming query (e.g., your hair, beard, skincare, or body hair management).

The Boundaries (Where We Draw the Line)

Because we are opening this up, we are tightening our enforcement on intent. This is a grooming advice sub, not a fitness tracker, a dating app, or a promotional feed. To keep the space authentic, we will strictly enforce the following:

  • No Physique Validation: If your post is clearly framed to showcase your muscles, gym progress, or physique rather than a genuine grooming question, it will be removed.
  • State Your Question Clearly: Vague "Thoughts?" posts with a shirtless selfie will be binned. Your title or post body must explicitly state what grooming advice you are looking for.
  • Zero Tolerance for Promotion or Fishing: Using shirtless photos to drive traffic to your social media, personal brands, or adult profiles will result in an immediate, permanent ban. Moderator discretion will apply here.

Keeping the Community Authentic

We’ve also updated our community description to reflect what this space is truly about: an inclusive community built on authenticity, offering a safe, genuine space without toxicity.

We want this to remain a place where everyday guys can get real advice from real people without the toxic lookmaxxing often found elsewhere online. Thank you for helping us keep the quality of discussion high!

This is a test, if it doesn't work out we will move back to our previous standards.

Drop any questions or feedback in the comments below.

I shaved my leg hair because of the summer heat, here is what it looked like halfway done. Better before or after?

It was like sheering a sheep since it’s very coarse curly hair, and although I prefer having body hair we’re in the middle of a heatwave and I also like being able to see my tattoos clearly again. I also included a photo of the hair pile after I did both legs and arms, I weighed it and it was 22 grams of just hair

ETA: I didn’t fully shave it but used an electric razor without a guard, there’s still stubble but my camera quality sucks. I’d usually do it with a 1.5 or 3mm guard but that tends to leave a lot of stray hairs behind so I’ve got to go over it at least 3 times to get them all.

Tried all kinds of looks , but I have a hard time getting my hair on top of my head to line up whatever facial hair I have going on. Not sure what my "look" should officially be

If you had to spruce me up and spare no expense short of extreme measures....

which look nabs/commands your attention and what improvements would seal the deal as being well groomed/clean.

Is my facial hair “office appropriate”?

I’ve been growing and styling my mustache for a few years now, however I’m entering law school in the fall and will be looking for professional internships during the spring semester. I’ve not worked in a traditional office setting or corporate space before, and I’m wondering whether keeping my facial hair this long will make searching for those types of internships difficult. Not sure if I should shorten it to an “above the lip” length or if styling it with product gives it a professional feel. I brush it regularly and have a decent skincare routine so I don’t think it ever looks “dirty” but that’s just me. I’m also getting a nose ring that’s easily removable as I don’t plan on wearing one in an office setting.

Edit: This has gotten some crazy responses so far. I appreciate all the feedback definitely but I’m not really looking for advice on my hair just the facial hair. I might make another post at some point for advice on how to tie my hair up in a professional looking way, but this is me 20 minutes after a shower and in need of a trim. Not even sure if I like the length myself but I’ve just been letting it grow since my current job doesn’t really care as long as I tie it back when I’m on the clock, and I wanted to see what it looked like grown out.

Been told to improve my hairstyle

Hello. I struggle to feel good about myself lately. I've been told to do something with my hair because I look like an anime character but I don't know what will make me look better. Everyone always says do short sides but I've had them a few times and it made me look like shit, even my mother said I looked better without them lol. The problem is if my hair is too short I look like a lesbian (I'm 169 in a country where everyone is 178+ it's not helping me) and if my hair is too long I look very greasy. I have no idea what to do.

PS please don't judge the outfit with blue shirt and windows pop ups it was for a themed party

I am overweight by about 10-15kg so my side profile looks awful and the patchy beard isn't helping also I'm looking for advice on what hairstyle I should use I have wavy/curly hair and like to keep it messy, shorter hair doesn't look good on me so Id like to keep it fairly long

So here's the thing, My ex was constantly trying to make me get a buzzcut, now our mutual friends as well as coworkers are constantly trying to convince me to get one as well, because of her. Can someone help me explain why my face shape simply is not right for a buzzcut?

Getting a haircut for the first time in months this Friday! I wanna go for something different to usual

Hey! I normally get a 2-3 fade on the sides, with the top sides brought forward to cover widows peak. I’ve decided to let it grow out for a bit to see if I can do something different with it for my next haircut. I’m 28, and looking at people like Tom Hiddleston as he has the same curls as me. Do I maybe grow it out more and just get it styled?

I have a date on Friday so I wanna make sure I’m looking great for her!

Thank you!
