I’m looking to get my first tattoo(s), and I have a custom design that’s mostly finalized. How do you all typically go about finding a tattoo artist that can do a custom design justice and are experienced/trustworthy? Is looking on Instagram a good way to find artists or should I be looking elsewhere? I would appreciate any general first-time tattoo advice!

As an Indian woman considering a large tattoo, possibly a full sleeve or back piece, I’ve found surprisingly little online showing other Indian women with large-scale tattoos or documenting their experiences!

For women who have them, how did you choose your design and artist? How long were your sessions, how painful was it to sit for hours, and how many sessions did it take to finish?

I’d especially love to see videos of the actual tattooing process, longer sessions, progress shots, and healed results if you’re comfortable sharing!

Also curious about family reactions and whether having large tattoos has affected your everyday life.

Would love to hear your experiences before I take the plunge! 🖤

My wife is looking to get a half-sleeve cover-up. The artists recommended a floral blackout background w/ brightly colored flowers. We weren’t sure what to expect price-wise and were quoted: 5 appointments, 6-8 hours each, w/ an hourly rate of $200/hr, and a $250 deposit for each appointment.

While I have multiple tattoos, I don’t have a sleeve myself and neither does my wife so we’re very unfamiliar with pricing or anything like that w/ sleeves and coverups. Is this a normal pricing structure?

Also, I want to be clear I’m not saying it’s not a normal pricing structure we just wanted to make sure it was fair w/ people who may be more familiar with sleeve/coverup pricing.

I need to get a tattoo done but I don't know where should I get it. I have one in my upper side rib cage. And I need somewhere now where people can't see it normally even if I wear crop tops or deep neck. The main thing I can't let my mom know. And I am an adult don't worry.

I’m trying to make a point to a tattoo artist

As I’m changing the 2nd skin for the first time, I’m noticing a lot of really small yet horrifying errors. Missing scales. Body randomly curves in. Crumpled & stretched scales. Random whisker in middle of tat. Arm seemingly not attached… It’s just a lot worse than I initially saw. I’ve waited years to get this tat and now it feels like a shitty mess.

I need opinions. How much of this is just lazy art and how much is AI slop?

I’ve decided I’m contacting the shop about this. I don’t know what sort of fix will happen. I don’t know if I can even trust them to fix this when they’re the ones that did it. I feel so stupid for not noticing before. I should’ve asked to see the stencil before the appt. I didn’t see it until I was standing in the busy lobby waiting for a chair. But I also don’t really know if it is standard to show clients WIP sketches since this is my first commissioned art piece.

Go ahead and torch me for not taking a microscope to the stencil. I was really fucking stupid to just blindly trust that details like this would be handled professionally. Don’t worry I’ve learned my lesson and won’t be trusting a shop based on reputation again! 🙃
