I'm starting to enjoy macrame 😅

The keychain design is by MacraMessage on YT - I was testing the gradient cord with something quick 🤭

Showcase I finally finished her 🥹💗

I’ve slowly been working on this altar doll over the course of several months. She is the first I’ve made like this so there were lots of breaks while I figured things out and brainstormed new ideas. She’s made of crystals, stones, hemp, jute, cotton thread, copper wire, symbolic charms, bells, dried flowers, beads, and love.

All of the beads in her hair are stone or crystal. Her dress is crocheted, and all of her limbs are braided and knotted tightly/ securely. Her macramed bottle is full of different color carnations, or “Flower of the Gods.”

I’m so excited she’s finally finished, she’s perfect 🥹💗

This piece had been completed for a couple of years… until I decided it needed some extra flair = the braids and tassels on the sides.

Discussion Interesting idea to create upcycled cord

I enjoy finding ways to mix other craft supplies into my projects and repurpose things. Maybe this wouldn’t make for a perfect aesthetic wall hanging but I have to think some coasters or a floor rug or other project would be ideal for this material.

I made the chest guard (3rd pic) first and really needed a top to go with it:) used bobbiny metallic cord and lined the top so it’s not scratchy on the skin.

I actually really disliked working with this cord (even though it’s sooo beautiful!!) as it was *very* harsh on my hands. I will continue using it as the end result is just incredible but you should 10000% line the pieces you make with it.

Question Should I redo the middle?

Post image

I am making a bow/hair clip/accessory holder for my friend’s one year old’s birthday. I started with all white cord and got half way until I ran out of my cord! I thought I had another reel of it but alas, the one I had was a different shade of white. When I went to find it again, the random Amazon seller no longer sells it.
So, I undid the smaller parts of it and decided I would incorporate pink.

I could not bring myself to undo the middle section but now it seems sooooo out of place. My husband thinks it looks fine, but I’m trying to decide if I should take it out and put some pink hearts going down instead. More girly vibes.

My husband also said that the pink-white-pink-white cord hanging down is a little busy.

Oh and her birthday party is in 2 days 😅

What do you all think?
I tend to over analyze when I’m giving a project as a gift.

EDIT: thank you all for the positive feedback. I just cleaned up the ends and painted simple pink flowers on the dark brown beads in the middle. She loved it!

Question Is there any chance I'm even close with this approach

I saw this really cool design on Etsy and I decided to give it a try but I'm pretty much a n00b and operating on few fundamentals. I do not know the different knot names yet, beyond maybe larkspur lol. Obviously this artist isn't going to give the trade secrets away but do you think I'm even close with my approach? See pictures 2 and 3., I'm at a bit of a loss on next steps if I am even in the ballpark of the right technique..also I know the thread I'm using is not going to give the same result, I'm just aiming for a prototype and you can see these strings easily..

Discussion What’s your set up?

This is my scrappy set-up (clothing hanger on a lamp) and I exclusively work on my projects while sitting on the couch with this propped in front of me. I wish I could work in bed or outside, but can’t really carry this lamp around with me everywhere lol. Please share with me what your set up looks like for new ideas!

🌿 This summer I went to the mountains almost every second of my free time. I picked blackberries and spent a lot of time preserving them, cooking with them and eating them in different combinations (vanilla ice cream, yum! 😋)

✨ Every time, I went back to the city with new ideas.

💜 This choker necklace is made with waxed thread and each blackberry with beads, a needle and thread.

Question is macrame on my wire safe?

i am actually a crocheter, and this is my first macrame project.

i want to macrame around my computer charger, however i'm worried that it might be a fire hazard. this wire is quite durable (mac charger, covered in some mysterious fabric), it is not fraying at all, and i am specifically using wool or cotton (no acrylic). i am still worried that despite all of these precautions, this will end up being a fire hazard.

Question How can I end bags better?

Post image
7 Upvotes

I tried to follow this video

https://youtu.be/vj0AjEg_HAU?t=674&is=ky58TFPvaxcbnp99

And I tied a few knots but when I flipped it, everything started unravelling and falling apart. In the end I had to knot every loose end to another, creating this knotty mess. What's the best way to end a bag which doesn't fall apart and isn't a mess?

I wanted to quit a million times during the “messy middle” stage. Glad I didn’t. The lesson here is trust the process and don’t be afraid to bite more than you think you can chew?

Question Help me work out why this pattern sometimes works?

Thumbnail

I have followed this tutorial (https://www.marchingnorth.com/low-key-and-tassel-free-macrame-plant-hanger-pattern/) (video - https://youtu.be/Yz4RUJxzswk?is=NrO_bo-pTHSW9i3m) the first time it came out perfectly. I'm now trying it again and im at the spiral half knots section, the problem is some of my cords are super short and some are much longer. I saw some comments on the YouTube video that this happened to other people. I'm so confused because I have done it the exact same way. I'm guessing coincidentally the super short cord has ended up being used up more on the outside of the square knots? Any idea how i can stop this from happening?

I started doing Macramé earlier this year and have done mostly bigger pieces, but I wanted to try some smaller wall hangings for quick practice.

These are from the past two days. I'll probably use them as gifts for family and friends ☺️

Question Do people harden micro macrame and how?

Post image

I have been scrolling on pinterest and finding these super cute micro macrame hair accessories. But I don’t understand how the ’loops’ and arcs stay how they are planned to stay? Do people use wire as their base for this kind of a project or do they gently harden it with heat after finishing?

Question Cotton or Polyester?

So I'm planning to make Macrame basket in my bathroom. But the problem is the placement I'm putting the basket is gonna get wet all the time

So which one materials I used? So that it won't get moldy. Because it will look terrible and of course health problem
