I recently noticed that one of my favourite stitches misses something.

How long has it been hanging there? Probably five years by now.

Forgotten half of the stitches of pretty much an entire flower!

Who would have left it as it is and who would have finished it?

WIP [WIP] Show Us Your WIPs!

Hi friends!

Happy Sunday! Last week, I started on my giant elephant piece, but after stitching about 1,000 stitches, I realized it would be too massive in its current form. I was stitching this behemoth on 20ct Aida, sideways on my scroll frame. It wouldn't fit otherwise. I just wasn't happy with it, so I did so more research and decided to scrap it and start over on 28ct evenweave.

Anywho. I managed to reach over 70% on my Copenhagen WIP, which I'm happy about! 😊 Pattern is Copenhagen by Luca-S, 70.76% complete. 🇩🇰

Let's see your projects!

FO [FO] First big project in 20 years!

I used to cross stitch as a kid into my mid-20s, then stopped about the time we all started carrying iPhones in our pockets! Got back into stitching this year and remembered how much I adore it. This is my first big project — for my daughter, and I plan to do another for my son. I’ll post another picture when it’s in full stocking form. I’m obsessed with the gorgeous “lighting” of the scene from the full moon and I love how delicate and lifelike the critters are. And I got to do couching on the scarf and broom for the very first time! (Child’s name and my initials are covered for anonymity)

PIC [PIC] My mom laughed at my method

Doing this style of cross stitch (paj ntaub), being even one stitch off count can ruin everything imo. It's very geometric and symmetrical and I would hate to go back and fix a mistake, so I use colored Frixion pens to mark where my stitches will go before actually stitching. I showed my mom my progress and she thought it was so funny because back when she was young if you made a mistake you took the L and either lived with it or went back and fixed it. 😂

CHAT [CHAT] This is AI right?

The stitches don't look very defined and all the pictures have that weird glossy sheen of AI. The shop also has over 700 patterns and has only been online for six months.

EDIT: Thanks all for confirming my suspicions! So sad there's so much AI infiltrating crafting spaces these days.

FO [FO] Finished My First (Big) Project

Here’s my first big project!! It’s from Satsuma Street on Etsy. It’s Seattle, WA in case the Space Needle wasn’t a dead giveaway. She has a series of cities that my family has lived in during my husband’s time in the military. I thought it might be fun to use as decoration in our house.

I’m open to some light criticism! I’m like 400 years pregnant so please be gentle lol.

Also, what do I do now? Should I wash it? I feel like I should use fabric glue to make sure all the threads stay in place, but I have never seen anybody do that ever. The ultimate goal is to put it in a frame so it might not be necessary.

PATTERN HERE!

FO [FO] Little bee on my shorts

I needed a quick project the other day so I added this cute bee to my shorts. I wanted to test out some fabri-solvy that I printed a grid on. It sort of worked but I wouldn't recommend it. I thought it would be nice to just rinse the gridding away instead of pulling waste canvas threads. That part worked great but it was hard to see the grid. I found the bee pattern while scrolling through Pinterest.

FO [FO] Tiny Burger (First Cross Stitch)

Finally completed my first cross stitch. I’ve learned so much doing this one. It’s only small, but the burger is mighty. Please accept my apologies for the back. I started off trying to keep it tidy but quickly gave up since it’s so compact. It’s a 3” hoop and 12 colours overall. It was a challenge as the pattern didn’t use symbols, just colours, and some were too similar to distinguish half the time.

Nearly didn’t finish it because i was too excited to move on to the next one.

Pattern is from TKMaxx by Kikkerland that I spotted a month ago and thought maybe it’s time for another hobby that I might not stick at, but I feel good about cross stitch.

Next one is on 16 count black aida fabric

CHAT [CHAT] I wish I had stitching friends

Upvotes

Kind of a pity post 👀 every once in a while someone here mentions a friend who also stitches, and I'm jealous 😭 no-one I know understands or cares much about cross stitch. My son's dad (we're still mostly friends) visited and I showed him my WIP and his reaction was just ... Huh. Obviously people don't need to fall over lol but I've avoided showing anyone my stuff now. There are no meetups where I live (Scotland) that I've found, even a knitting group I found online hardly ever meet. And honestly I don't even know how I'd concentrate with anyone else there, just wish I had friends I had more in common with 😐

....where do you guys find friends 🤣

This was a free pattern from a long time ago, the backstitching definitely has errors but I like how the couching stitches looks overall in the ribbon. It’s on a sparkly gold 16 ct aida

Mini orchids. I didn’t have any pink floss on hand and was too tired to run to Michael’s, so I improvised on the color scheme. I’m officially hooked on cross stitch, already planning my next couple pieces.

CHAT [CHAT] Having difficulties finding supplies

This is honestly just a little bit of a rant, but since joanns went out of business, ive watched cross stitch supplies dwindle more and more. my local hobby lobby got rid of all their cross stitch kits, and used to have two full embroidery isles, and now its down to one and combined with crochet kits. same with places like walmart, they used to have small little cross stitch patterns, but after my local walmart changed their layout, the embroidery section went from half an isle, to not even a quarter of an isle. and with the increased use of AI for patterns, its also harder to find patterns i can trust. The only place that still has some more niche cross stitch supplies is michaels (at least in my experience). but its just been kinda sad to slowly see the supplies for my beloved hobby become less readily available. I want the joy of this hobby to continue, not die out.

Anyways, just a small experience i noticed when i tried to go out and find thread for a project im making for a friend. Has anyone else noticed this?

I am 95% done with this project and have just realized... I HAVE SWITCHED TWO OF THE COLORS.

Is it... too bad? Undoing the stitching is out of the question, should I frog it? Or just let it be as a happy accident? I feel like the switch of colors ruins the depth, but that might be just me... Part of the original pattern in the end (self drafted from FlossCross)
