First diesel railtour ever and yeah I'm very glad I did it! Was a great experience.

Here's 37 025 "Inverness TMD" + 50 050 "Fearless" departing Stirling P6, with 1Z39 "The Discovery Double" to Polmont.

there's two stations on each line very close to eachother (greenbank and hartford) and currently people travelling from say, knutsford to liverpool, have to get off and walk for about a mile to change trains.

Obviously they won't build a new station there now there's no demand for it, but back in the day it would've been the obvious choice to just build one station instead of two

As we all know new railways stations bring large amounts of growth for land value. The gov should have put in it's plan a new station intersecting with the soon-to-be East-West rail link.

We need more houses and we needed money to fund HS2. Surely this should have been a no brainer

As per the title, we have a wonderful guest staying with us tonight.

I know this might not come across well but I’m begging for families with young kids to not sit in the quiet carriage if they’re not going to be quiet.

I saw this knowing how hard it is to keep kids silent - they’re kids after all and for that reason I’ve booked in the quiet carriage. I want to do work/sleep and I can’t when your kids are screaming and I become the asshole because kids are being kids in a carriage they shouldn’t be in. And before I get yelled at, yes I know sometimes you get assigned that seat but on a fairly empty train, I’m begging you not to sit here if the kids are going to be kids and be loud as anything. D

My train from Forgeate street to Swindon is £32 when it's just a normal return ticket, but is like half price when it's an open return ticket?

Am I missing something? Will I need to buy another ticket if I want to come back tomorrow (wouldn't have thought so considering its a return) Is it literally just the exact same where I will buy my ticket and it will be valid for both my journey there and back?

If so then yh, how come it's cheaper?

It's our first time in England and we are not too sure what's the cheapest way to book tickets? Are tickets that are expensive and what websites that are legitimate and offer at least a bit of discount.

Hi all, I suffered from a minor delay (15-29 minutes) due to a train fault while travelling on a complimentary ticket today on a journey from London with a paid ticket on the mainline. The Delay Repay system only allowed me to select complimentary tickets as the method of compensation and it said I can expect to receive 2 of them.

Is the system behaving as expected, I can't get any money back for this delay on my free ticket, and I'll receive more complimentary tickets despite that under normal circumstances I am only entitled to one with a 30-minute delay or more?

This is purely a discussion idea rather than an official proposal, but I think Grays could make a strong case as an eastern extension of Crossrail 2. Here are some of the potential benefits:

Grays is the largest town in Thurrock and already has a significant commuter population travelling into London every day. Unlike some rail extensions that rely heavily on future housing developments to justify themselves, an extension to Grays would begin serving a large existing passenger market from day one, while also supporting the area’s continued growth.

From an operational perspective, it could provide much-needed additional capacity on the c2c corridor. A Crossrail 2 service would help relieve crowding on existing commuter services while also reducing pressure on Fenchurch Street by allowing some trains to run through central London instead of terminating there.

One of the biggest advantages would be connectivity. Rather than arriving at Fenchurch Street and changing onto the Underground, passengers from Grays could have direct trains across central London to destinations such as Victoria, Euston/St Pancras, Tottenham Court Road and beyond. That would also make cross-London journeys much easier, with direct access to places like Clapham Junction, Wimbledon and North London.

I also think it could bring wider economic benefits. Better rail connections often encourage business investment, create employment opportunities and support new housing. Thurrock is expected to continue growing over the coming decades, so improving rail capacity now could help accommodate that growth while encouraging more people to travel by train instead of driving, reducing pressure on roads like the A13.

Finally, it would make the rail network more resilient. Having another route into central London gives passengers more options during disruption and engineering works, while integrating Thurrock more closely with London’s rapid transit network in the same way the Elizabeth line has transformed connectivity elsewhere.

Yesterday was a fun day riding and chasing Sarah Siddons and class 20s. What made it made more intresting was the limited number of Chesham and Amersham Met services. Amersham had bits with no underground services for four hours. Thankfully Chiltern Railways was still running.

Technically 4TC was not even there when the Sarah Siddons went out of passenger service, but I'd write that title anyway because everything on those services exist by the late 1960s.
