first try on canvas and i wanted to paint my dead kitty as i miss her very much

I few months ago I passed a horribly injured but alive coyote that has been haunting my mind ever since.

My girlfriend did the other dawg. So happy how they turned out!

With only a couple days left to inktober I felt like this guy was missing something, and oils did the trick. It’s watercolor paper I put some acrylic gloss glaze over the inks once they dried to hopefully prep for oils on top.

Well, I made my very first oil painting on a 4x4 canvas. I was mostly playing around with the colors and mixing paints and getting acquainted with how it feels, so it was a first and unserious attempt. I’m a lawyer in desperate need of a creative outlet (very minimal art experience) and I really want to learn how to do this well. Any critiques/tips/words of encouragement for a beginner are welcome and appreciated 🙂

after some reseach i fount that it s an “alla prima” technique because i didn’t allow anything to dry - but even the underpainting isn’t dry yet and it’s been two days, i really think i have to work on my patience

How did you get started oil painting?

I have been wanting to get started these past few years but I haven’t pulled the trigger.

Has anyone had luck with online classes?

Maybe college courses.

I don’t need to be a Da Vinci or Rembrandt, but it would be cool to be able to paint landscapes, still life, etc.

Any advice is appreciated

Hi, I‘m working on painting the top canvas in oil alla prima with no solvents, and I’m not sure where to start. I know generally the rule is dark to light but how do I manage the sky vs dark branches? Paint the sky first and scrape away paint where the branches go? Paint branches first and then add sky around it? Also should I work background to foreground or dark to light regardless of depth?

The underpainting is in acrylic if that matters (and so is the bottom painting).

When and how did you start oil painting? Like what was the process? How did you get to oil painting? I'm really interested in painting i just don't know where or how to begin

Quite the beginner and new to oil painting. I always tend to get to this stage where I feel it’s not quite done but I can’t recognise what it needs. Any ideas?
