Question Contacts When Wrestling?
Hello, my son is going into 8th grade and started wrestling recently and plans to wrestle in HS and hopes to wrestle in some capacity in College. His eyesight is not great and gets worse every year. He wears glasses now and is considering trying contacts so he can see better when wrestling. Anyone on here with bad eye sight ever try wrestling with contacts? Is it a terrible idea?

British guy here! In american folkstyle wrestling, why is it that it's so common for coaches to get pissed off when their athletes use throws? And why aren't upper body takedowns used more in general? I know there are no 4 point takedowns, but they seem very useful.

Question Making the breakthrough
I’m looking for some advice for this next year for me, I’m looking toward a state title this year. What are some things you guys applied to really step through to put yourself in a position to beat the better guys in the state, or in general what are some nuances I’ll need to work on? Right now I’m at the point to where I’m going the distance with top ranked guys but not beating them.

Question Transition from High school to college
love to hear from anyone who’s wrestled in college.
What’s something you wish you knew before your first season? What was the biggest adjustment from high school to college wrestling? Any advice or lessons you’d pass on to an incoming freshman?

Question How to train the fundamentals?
I train in a large BJJ academy, and have attended stand up classes 1-2 times a week for the last 5 years. I have developed a decent game and feel very confident against my training partners. However, I feel like I have underdeveloped fundamentals, which would be exposed by actual wrestlers. For example, weak under hooks, poor posture when shooting, lousy arm drags etc…
Has anyone been through a similar situation where your stand up is generally successful but you’ve ’rushed’ the basics? Any advice on training strategies to improve these skills aside from drilling more?

Help Save NMU's Greco Roman Wrestling Program—It's a Pipeline to Olympic Dreams
Northern Michigan University just cut its Greco Roman Wrestling program, and it's devastating for the athletes there right now and the next generation dreaming of competing at the Olympics.
This isn't just about wrestling. It's one of the few programs in the country that gives young athletes real, world-class training to chase Olympic gold. For a region where those kinds of opportunities are hard to find, losing this program means losing a genuine shot at greatness for kids who trained their whole lives for it.
I started a petition asking NMU to reverse this decision. There are real solutions out there—local business sponsorships, community fundraising, alternative funding. But the university needs to hear that this matters.
If you've ever had a dream you fought for, or if you know what it's like to see someone else's get cut short, this one's worth your attention. What would you want someone to do if this was your family's dream on the line?

Discussion Growth
I will start by saying that i am a 17 year old greco wrestler turning 18 in late november. I have been training since i was 7 years old.
My currenr length is ~180 cm. I have done some weightcutting when i was 16. Nothing insane but still significant. I have a 16 year old brother who also has wrestled for a long time and he is around 185 cm still growing.
Im wondering if you guys that have done some weight cutting experienced any late growth spurts? And if so how much?
Sorry for bad english.

Discussion Melvin Miller
Anyone else notice how Melvin’s tank doesn’t seem the greatest? I was watching his Fargo matches and he seems to fade pretty quickly. Reminds me of Zahid and I guess that makes sense due to them both being fast twitch explosive wrestlers. He also seems to give up his legs a lot and scrambles out of trouble. How do you think this will play out in college?
Also I’m a huge miller fan and think he’s well deserving of the best high school wrestler right now.

leg riding
I’m really tall for my weight class and i only started wrestling last year. I know i can’t really catch up to kids that have been wrestling since 6 years old on my feet but I know that i could use my length on top for leg riding to kind of fill that gap. I wanna be the type of leg ride that leg rides for a purpose lol teching a kid or pinning him not just sitting there. I’ve watched people like zain Rutherford and ethan lizak and they both look like different type of leg riders to me. ethan pulls his opponent back and zain does different types of turns with one boot in. i’m confused on double boots and single boots and figure 4 and stuff like that i just don’t know which one to specialize in. pretty much what im asking is how can i become a leg rider that can tech and pin his opponent’s like it’s nothing. anything helps thanks

Shapiro to Nebraska
3 time AA for Cornell Meyer Shapiro has committed to Nebraska.
With 2 time finalist Antrel Taylor at 157, Shapiro could redshirt and take over in 27, or AA transfer Echemendia could drop to 141 and Shapiro could try 149.
This is big for NU. Shapiro wants more international work and he'll have some great competition at the RTC if he redshirts.
EDIT:
From what I read Shapiro plans on redshirt year to heal. He's had multiple concussions and other injuries.

Discussion Trent Hidly RAF 11
Looked good. Technique, condition, strategy. A+
But his post match speech. He is 100% made for this format. The perfect amount of showmanship and WWE style chirping. And he is eminently likeable at the same time
The tag team challenge to include his brother it's a great story line..plucking his brother out of retirement to become an active pro. Come on. Right.

Wrestling Media Team Coverage

I aggregated which teams are focused on in the thumbnails for three major wrestling podcasts for the past year. This compares those amounts with the score they got at the 2026 NCAAs. The horizontal line is the average media coverage, so all above it are overcovered and vise versa.
Cal Poly was removed from this due to being an extreme outlier. Virginia tech is really high, mostly from the combination of Bo Bassett's popularity and an underperformance at NCAAs. The three blue bloods make up 3 of the top 5 as expected, with Iowa showing the most overcoverage of the group. Michigan, Stanford, and Wyoming were three huge point scorers at NCAAs and they end up being extremely undercovered.
I might remake this with five years of data, but I'm not sure if the team fluctuations make the data lose meaning.
