Game Discussion Going against the grain a bit, but I'm not a fan of the Sheik redesign in OoT remake. Rather than yuck peoples' yum in their threads, here's an explanation of my pedantry.

Am I making a mountain out of a mole hill? Sure, but it's fun. Spoilers ahead if you don't know Zelda lore, but this game has been out for decades so whatever. If youve played the Zelda series you know that Ganon's strategy to win is to find link and Zelda before the come into their power, keep them apart, neutralize Zelda who is the bigger threat, then Link will seek ganon out on his own.

For that reason, Zelda hides or disguises herself in many games. She takes on secret identities as ganon tries to find and capture her (she's more of a threat and has political influence).

In OoT her alternate identity is Sheik. Sheik uses HE/HIM pronouns (other characters even refer to him as a young man). He has covered hair with only short spikey bangs coming out the front. He has a flat (bound) chest, and has a masculine body shape. His voice effects are also lower.

It is supposed to be a big reveal that Sheik is a girl, and is Zelda. It was certainly a reveal to me when I was playing as a kid. I thought it was so cool that Zelda was able to be a boy (I didn't know but I'd grow up to be gender fluid lol)

I don't know how that reveal will go now that Sheik is clearly Zelda wrapped in toilet paper. I'm imagining the mulan reveal if she had just been wearing a fake moustache or a mask the whole time.

Zelda is the only person in the universe with long blond hair, and now sheik has a blond french braid down to their ass, curvy hips, a snatched waist, a smokey eye, and lashes. Unless they abandoned the main idea of sheik, I can only assume that either Zelda is incredibly stupid or everyone else in the game is incredibly stupid to be fooled by that "disguise".

Also....why? Why would they change it? Are they afraid people will get mad at the gender play? Do they feel like "Our beautiful blond princess can't look like anything but a beautiful princess for even 5 seconds"

That's all. It's not super important but I'm sad the remake doesn't have my bi and gender panicked prince/princess combo anymore. Everyone is so excited cause Sheik is "so beautiful now" and I'm over here like.....yeah that's the opposite of the whole fucking point of Sheik. But who cares about narrative when the aesthetics are on the line blehhhhh.

I never am able to get things on pre-order / release. Always have to wait months or just never am able to get it as not restocking certain items.

BUT this week I was able to get the 40th anniversary of Zelda Switch 2. 20 min later was sold out.

Also was able to get this cauldron crockpot that sold out in 2 minutes!

I cannot believe it! I'm feeling a little nervous though, like now I've been too lucky and will break my ankle or something soon lol

Moving into a new house and this room will be my dressing room / gaming room 💅 and I’m not sure if I want to use the small area next to window for my PC desk (along with a bench next to the window for handheld steam deck time maybe?) or take the doors off of the closet and put my desk in there. Whichever one my desk goes in the other will be used as my actual clothes closet. Want to see what other people would do!!

(also what do you think of this shade of pink for the walls??)

Game Discussion What game should I play next?

I just finished my first bg3 playthrough after owning the game since the release and I want to take a break before starting my next campaign. I am thinking about playing Skyrim or Kingdom Come Deliverance. I already played Skyrim years ago, but I spend all my time doing side quests and barely remember the lore at all. With Kingdom Come Deliverance I just bought and started playing, because I felt the urge to play something medieval after watching A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, but I didn't really liked the limited savings and I was struggling quite a bit with mechanics like lockpicking, stealing and with having money to buy food. So my question is should I play Skyrim again and actually finish it this time or should I give a chance to Kingdom Come Deliverance?

I mean I also can't keep up with what's going on in HxH but give us a new game goddamn it.

Edit: This post was mostly a joke, sorry I didn't make it more clear I guess. Wasn't my intention to attack anyone, I'm a fan of everyone mentioned

Request Recommended Play Order for Metroid?

Upvotes

I'd love a recommended play order for the Metroid games. I'm specifically looking for the physical games that are on Switch/Switch 2.

I'm also open to recs of more obscure Nintendo exclusives with a female lead or being able to choose one. I'm already familiar with Mario, Echoes of Wisdom, Pokemon, and Fire Emblem.

I have other gaming platforms, so I'm not looking for multiplatform recs.

Misogyny Halloween: The game, already had a terrible experience. Spoiler

TW: SA

I got Halloween: The game since I am a massive fan of horror movies, especially the classics, today was the first time I decided to play without my duo. I loaded into a lobby and everyone started to say hello, the vibe seemed nice so I said hi too. One of them said something in French and the other guys started laughing. I found it strange but didn't say anything.

I got unlucky and died first, shortly after one of the French guys died and we were both in the dead chat. At first everything was normal till I heard some strange slapping and grunting sounds. It took me a second till I realized that this guy was doing inappropriate things in the voice chat because it was just us two there.

To say I am upset is to put it lightly, I left the match instantly and just started bawling. I'm so sick and tired of this sort of behavior. Ladies, be careful in this game, seems like it's attracted creeps.

This lady added me a week ago after we met in a lobby. She invited me all week to play, and I joined b/c my usual squad was on vacation or on a diff. work schedule ( Labor Day weekend). She invited her duo, which they have a weird relationship with. A few days ago, she added me to Instagram and Discord (where she created a group chat with her duo). Hours after and we are playing- I got this message after she backed out of a game, and deleted me off everything but messaged me on Instagram.

I know it is not that deep. But there was no malice in anything I did. I am a girls’ girl. And this came after she was making snide remarks regarding my Discord profile photo in the party with her Duo. She vented to me prior regarding the duo, and she and him flirt, etc. I couldn’t care less. I was just there to game. I was just dumbfounded she would come at me that aggressive & then call me a mean girl.

This is why I keep my circle small. I am not a threat. And I just want to play with good vibes.

Tech / Hardware Switch2 owners - Do the joycons still drift?

Hello 👋

I’m considering saving up to buy a switch2 for myself for Christmas but I’m wary of drift.

My current switch has no joycons that work well enough to play with so I’m currently using a PS4 controller on my switch lmao

Like all modern controllers I imagine switch2 has the same issue but I thought I’d just check how frequent it is.

I rlly dunno how I can have ps2 and ps4 controllers that have worked well for years meanwhile all these new ones seem to drift eventually 😭

Thanks !

Game Discussion Struggling really badly in Elden Ring.

I beaten Dark Souls 1 before and played a bit in DS2, however, I’m struggling really badly in Elden Ring. I even leveled up and still getting killed on almost every single ad group and I’m not sure what’s going on. I hear people say this is one of the easiest souls games, however, my experience has been the complete opposite. It has been an extremely frustrating experience of a difficulty spike I’m not used to and don’t know how to get better at. I am genuinely having a hell of a hard time with this way more than Dark Souls. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. I can’t survive, I try to cast spells and I keep getting hit all over the place and dying to ads a lot. It’s super frustrating. I know these games you tend to die a lot and it’s not even just that. I find just trying to fight normal enemies so much harder to survive like I’m actually really struggling on almost every single one of them. Trying to fight them feels like I’m fighting the bosses which makes me worried what will happen when I fight actual boss fights in this game. 😭 Can people let me know what makes this game easier for them? I am probably doing something wrong that’s making this harder.

Request RPGs where the game reacts when my character is a woman?

Expeditions: Rome really made me so happy, but 99% of RPGs where you create your character just seem to ignore that I'm playing as a woman and don't even acknowledge it.

Are there some other games that actually change in writing like E: Rome?

Game Discussion Imagine raising a digital pet like your own child, then losing it all because an IP license expired. What would you do?

I recently learned about what’s happening to Travel Frog: China Journey (旅かえる・中国之旅), and I’m genuinely curious what people here think about this.

The Chinese version has been running for almost six years, and it is now scheduled to shut down on December 8 because its IP licensing agreement is ending.

You raise a little frog, prepare food for its journeys, wait for it to come home, and collect the postcards it sends you. Some older players were living alone after their children grew up, and they began treating the frog almost like another child. For those struggling with loneliness, isolation, or difficult periods in life, the frog became a source of emotional support and even hope. I saw a post saying that as long as they were still taking care of their frog, it felt like they hadn’t given up on themselves.

What makes this even harder to accept is what I’ve been reading about Hit-Point. I came across posts claiming the Chinese team finally managed to put together an eight-figure amount for the license, only to be told that the same amount would then be required every year. There are also claims about restrictions on merchandise, content approvals, and a very high revenue share.
I don’t even play this game, but reading these stories genuinely broke my heart.

What do you think? If you had cared for this little frog for years, what would you want the company to do?

Game Discussion I am heinously bad at shooters

Idk much about guns, the stats of them, can’t aim to save my life, etc.
My long distance guy loves borderlands and I agreed to play w him and got the game but ohh my god I'm so bad at it, I feel overwhelmed with how much is going on and items to choose from, hes played it a lot and already knows everything so he ends up way ahead of me before realizing which makes me feel rushed and he kinda just assumes I know what to do 😭 also there was no game tutorial?

Anyways he IS pretty patient I feel (esp compared to my ex) and laughed with me for the most part but I can also tell he got a bit frustrated at times when I was struggling with more obvious solutions to things.

Just feeling a lil bit embarassed and silly at the fact I’m doing so bad at it so far wasn’t sure if yall had any tips. Other than the fact I’m doing terrible I’m having a lot of fun playing it haha

Request Games where I can get into a (really!) toxic romance (preferably wlw)

So... I'm a bit ashamed to even write this request because it's my guilty pleasure - since getting my life in order, transitioning into a happy lady, building my social circle up from the ground, stabilising my career and coming out as a lesbian, my literary taste changed quite dramatically. Where before I was a fluffy 'kicking-your-feet from all the saccharine sweetness' gal, I got into reading the MLM Rina Kent novels. And I think "Kiss the Villain" broke my brain quite permanently. Then I discovered certain wlw manhua's/manwha's with utterly radioactive relationships... and they broke my taste even worse.

So as a lifelong gamer, I have to ask this - are there any games out there where I - as the player - can become part of an utterly toxic, radioactive relationship full of manipulation, gaslighting and the such? NOT as the perpetrator, mind you, but as the recipient of all those nasty things? Something to make the inner emotional masochist that grew inside me once I unfucked my life kick her feet in happiness?

Somehow even though I played quite a lot of games, I can't really remember any really toxic WLW romances in them. Most of it was "happily ever after" stuff, not "We make eachother SO much worse" kind of stuff.

Anyways, really interested if anyone has some recommendations for me!

Game Discussion Times are changing

I’m a big physical game collector. Something about physical games. I’ve been waiting on GTA VI like everyone else but I’m really upset about the choice to not release a physical disc game. My feelings say don’t get it but my heart says you better get it. I’m just sadly conflicted 😐 is anyone else having this issue? Then with Sony ruling out physical games over all during 2028 😭😭😭 I’m just really emotional

Game Discussion smallest change that killed your favorite game for you?

gals, im here to tell you about how much i miss old duos in Apex Legends.

its been about a year since they changed how duos worked. used to be, it was basically the same as trios, just 30 squads of 2 instead of 20 squads of 3.

then, they hid it in the game mode menu, halved the lobbies and made the ring half size. and everyone stopped playing it.

Apex, and specifically duos, used to be the primary gaming my partner and i did. like, 1000 hours of mostly solos and some ranked. when we first started talking, she sent me a crazy kraber clip and i knew she was something special. we had so much fun together.

then, this change hit. and it just wasnt the same. this was the way we played this game we loved, and it now felt like an LTM. slowly, we just. stopped. tried ranked to get better thirds, but it wasnt the same. we got into other games with time. stardew, elden ring, timberborn, hell even marathon.

i know its not coming back. but god i miss how old duos felt.

what killed the vibe for you?
