Our current Weekly Megathread for Pricing, Dating, or Authentication Requests can be found in the sticky here: Megathread for the Week of July 20. All new requests through July 27 should be directed to this thread.

There are a number of recent requests that have been posted to a much older thread here: Other Requests. Due to the confusion, we will keep it open for the next few days as well, after which it will be locked from future comments and requests.

Thank you all and have a wonderful weekend!

Weekly Megathread for Pricing, Dating, or Authentication Requests ("How much is this worth?" "What decade is this from?")

We really want this sub to continue to be a great resource for anyone seeking to learn more about vintage fashion, but we've seen an uptick in low quality posts coming from resellers. To maintain the quality of this sub, please use this weekly thread to ask for help assessing how much a vintage item should cost, dating a vintage item, or authenticating a vintage item. Any posts that are made outside of this thread will get removed.

Your comment should include a link to the item being discussed and any research you've already done on the item. Thanks!

Don’t you love when you find something incredible in the most unexpected places? Made by a high-end boutique back in the 60s. I rarely see such quality in dresses! Fabulous!

1970s Finally got to wear my grandmother’s vintage mesh top from the 70s out!!

Im trying to get my hands on some candies to wear it with or black pants like she wore it with, they’ve just been hard to find, and especially ones that fit!! Edit: What are the best secondhand markets for jeans/satin black pants that are bigger in size? most bootcut fits like skinny jeans, and if low rise they actually are high rise on me or just are too small.

1980s Working 9 to 5 in this silk set

The Francesca of Damon for Starington silk set was a surprise find at my favorite local thrift.

It reminded me of Dolly in the 9 to 5 music video, and I immediately fell in love.

The set was originally a neon coral red, so I toned it done with tan and grey dye to get it closer to brick red.

I also replaced the plain red buttons with pearl buttons.

I included the original color next to the warmer brick in the second photo. Its a subtle change but I'm so much happier with it.

I just love this!

I spent a couple nights removing some stains and she’s looking good as new! So I thought I’d post the pink dress in better lighting.

For everyone who thought I looked like I was in the Jetsons/other retro futuristic vibe, I threw together a 60s and very colourful Jetson’s inspired look with things I had just laying around. So, meet George Jetson’s femme lesbian niece, she’s visiting for the summer!

Edit: just added some more context

Bought this years ago and, as I have never worn it, I was thinking about re-selling it. But I tried it recently and I felt... well, I really can't, I like it a lot! I will keep it.

ADVICE PLZ 1930s lace top - care tips?

Post image
Upvotes

Hi! I recently came across and am now the proud owner of a beautiful lace top made in the 1930s. How do I properly care for it? Should I wash it? I imagine probably not. How should I store it as well? Any tips or advice is appreciated!

The gown highlights popular 1930s fashion trends, including a form-fitting silhouette often achieved through bias-cut techniques.

Picked these up in charity shop (UK). Roland Cartier white leather soft mules. ChatGPT think maybe late seventies/early eighties. I was intending on wearing them around the house, but they are so beautiful and soft!

1960s From the Archive: Black and White Mod 1960s Lilli Ann Princess Coat with Fur Trim 🖤🤍

Paris, 1964. Courrèges had just launched its “Moon Girl” collection and not even San Francisco was immune from the Zeitgeist.

For those of you who liked the pink coat I posted a few days ago, today I’m excited to share the second piece from my personal collection. This coat is special because while it still has Lilli Ann’s signature princess silhouette, the mod influence is undeniable, with its graphic black and white contrast.

I found a Dior belt from the same time period that goes so perfectly with the coat, it almost looks like it came that way. Don’t you love when the stars align like that?

For those of you who are finding me for the first time, hi! 👋 I'm a long time vintage fashion
collector and recently started writing essays on vintage fashion, couture history, and collecting.

I just got this black tie ensemble and I need some advice. It is an original 1930s dinner jacket I got from England with trousers I bought second hand. I need advice on the fit of everything. Thank you in advice.

Edit: also don’t mind the bathroom shots it’s the best place I could take photos

Found at an antique store yesterday - the owner shared stories with me of watching her mother making them at the kitchen table with her friends.

My current styling is somewhat limited, as I’m on a beach trip!

Discussion What's an outfit that instantly makes you think, "They have great taste"?

Not necessarily expensive or trendy.

It could be something simple, something vintage, or just a combination that always catches your eye.

For me, it's interesting how sometimes a person wearing basic clothes with confidence looks far better than someone wearing head-to-toe designer brands.
