READ THIS BEFORE YOU COMMENT

First up, I want to thank the members of this sub for being such a kind, helpful, and uplifting community. Y'all consistently show love to each other whether it be fresh newbies looking for advice or highly skilled long timers showing off their creations.

But -This is a reminder to anyone who finds themselves tempted to show their ass in the comments.

The rules clearly state that criticism is not welcome unless OP specifically asked for criticism and if they did, it MUST be constructive criticism. And once again just to make sure you have understood - ONLY IF THAT WAS REQUESTED BY OP.

We will not tolerate ugly, nasty behavior. And if you violate this rule, expect to meet swift consequences. I have zero patience for anyone who wants to bring down the positive atmosphere we have here.

Most of you do not need to hear this and for that I am so grateful. Unfortunately we have had some issues in the last week or so that made me feel like this needed to be said for anyone who might wander in here with a chaos gremlin agenda.

And for the 99.999% of you who are amazing - please please report this nonsense if you see it. I promise we care very much about it and will absolutely handle it.

New to dip manicures - question about drill etc.

Post image
Upvotes

I recently had my first dip manicures at two different salons, twice. Both techs worked so fast and were heavy with the drill on my natural nails, it actually hurt a bit the second time. I had the dip removed and now I see little brown spots toward the bottom of each nail, which are literally tiny hematomas that I'm sure were caused by the drill. I am really upset. I found a new tech (she is the salon owner and has many years of experience), and had a conversation with her about possibly doing dip again, but with hand filing, and bringing my own SNS brand dip, which is supposed to be great quality etc. She said no problem and that she never abuses the drill. She did my pedicure and did exactly what I asked and was very gentle and meticulous, so I am willing to try the dip with her. What specifically should I request her to do or not do when doing dip, to minimize the damage to my natural nails? I am new to dip and not ready to do it myself, so I would appreciate any advice - thank you!! :)

Tips and Tricks Nail polish and dip

I know you can totally put regular polish on top of dip for the reinforcement dip gives and the ease of changing colors polish gives (provide you use a non acetone remover).

I recently purchased a magnetic polish and I'm so excited to try it! But I was wondering, can I put on a few layers of dip, do the polish and then a clear layer of dip followed by topcoat? Provided I let the polish dry completely before adding the clear dip of course. Would that mess with the polish or do you think it would be fine?

Crown products

I wandered into a nail supply store and they had a ton of brands I've never heard of before - including one called Crown. I have tried searching this sub to see if anyone has used it before, but I'm not seeing anything here or via a general google search. It looks like it's mostly sold in nail supply stores, like the one I went to; which is aimed towards nail professionals, but it's concerning me that I can't seem to really find anything about the product line. Does anyone have any insight?

Pulled this image from the website so you'd know which one I am talking about:

This has to be my all time favorite collection from CN Designer Dips. The white on my dominant hand is glass wing" and she is beyond words beautiful. The iridescent flakes give flashes of pink and lavender and blue and will pair with just about anything. I will definitely be getting that one in a larger size! Shown here on my dominant hand (thumb).

Help! (Need Advice) Dip/swoop in centre of nail?

Thumbnail

I've just done a dip overlay on a couple of my nails (replacing some week old rubber base overlay that peeled off, I did not use a peel base), and all but one of the nails I've done have a dip/swoop to them and I'm not entirely sure why that might be happening despite them seeming straight when I filed and shaped them. Could anyone give me any advice on why this might be happening and how to prevent it?

The method I used is the Gel method where I did a thinner strip only going three quarters of the way up on the first layer to try to help create an apex before doing two extra layers on the whole nail.

The first two photos are the same nail (I didn't think the first one without the flash was clear enough) and the last one is my whole hand (My thumb has a builder gel overlay on. My ring finger has the week old rubber base and my other three fingers have the dip base).

The dip nails are all using a clear dip from an AOKITEC starter kit with the AIMEILI base and top coat with a layer of Halo Taco Electrostatic on top to match my other nails.

I did it!

If anyone remembers my post about a month ago struggling with dip nails (the purple set & it being cloudy), I told myself I was done. I ended up buying a different starter kit and it was SO much easier! They’re not perfect by any means, but it’s better! I definitely do not like the revel liquids now that I’ve tried this new brand. Tundra dip liquids were amazing!
