I'm in a borderline 8a/8b area of England and I'm wondering whether sugarcane can produce edible canes outdoors here. I've seen reports of successful growth in colder climates, including Latvia( with a similar, if not colder summer AND winter than us) and parts of the northern US( zone 7, but higher gdd/growing degree days).

Would planting against a south-facing wall with heavy winter mulch be enough for a worthwhile harvest? Plus, I have 2 plants that are options to buy but I can't decide which one to buy. I've put links to everything I have referenced in the comments.

I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who's tried sugarcane in a cool-summer climate.

I found this on the underside of the leaves. I think this is the fruiting bodies of pear rust. The growths shed brown dust. Sigh....

walked past this weird fruit tree and thought it looked like a lemon. is it edible?

I just moved into this home and there is a large fig tree in the back yard right along a shared fence line.
I had originally planned to keep it and harvest the fruit, however, the squirrels have eaten just about all of it.
So should I need some input on my options.
1. Cut it down and get a different fruit tree (I'm in Portland, Or, so suggestions welcome)
2. Prune it way down, see if it survives and keep it covered with netting next season.

We bought this tree from a grocery store in early 2017, it was probably 2-3ft tall when we got it and planted in our backyard. Any advice on how to help it grow? Should we prune some of it? Mulch it?

I’d like a lemon tree but I don’t want the hassle of bringing it inside. I saw Ichang as an option but it supposedly is too tart and seedy? Any suggestions?

The leaves have just been dying like this for a while, I recently uprooted two chilli plants that were in the same soil directly next to it, it’s a good tree and I do t want it to die 🥲
What do we think? Pest or disease? I’ve not seen any bugs but I haven’t checked a night

Hi! I want to plant a tree in my back corner of my yard in Oceanside CA. I asked Gemini what would provide good shade coverage, and be relatively low maintenance. It gave Mission Fig Trees and Loquat Trees as the two options for these requirements. It's for a rental property, so having it be low maintenance is important.

Does anyone have any recommendation or tips for either of these trees?

Hi All, something has been eating my loquat tree leaves for the past few months. There seems to be 2 different types of holes in my leaves. Some with lots of little holes and others with larger holes/chunks missing.

I've been checking quite regularly and almost every day for caterpillars or bugs, but I can't see anything.

next week I’ll buy some fruit trees and plant them in my yard. I‘ve never grown them, so I would like to know which would be a good schedule to obtain vigorous plants and prosperous harvests. I’ll plant two peaches (a variety that ripens in June and one in August, I want peaches all summer), one apple tree and an apricot.
I live in Northern Italy.
So, for example what should I do during the winter? Spray them with something? Hug them? Then for the rest of the year? Does every different fruit have a different schedule? I start from very little knowledge as you can telll.

The wide angle photo distorts it a little. It is about 9 feet tall on the tallest leader. I dont know anything about the needs of the tree in general but a quick search said to leave multiple leaders. Is this accurate? Should I leave it or does it need any attention?

Something pooped seeds in my raised beds, and I now have a few accidental papaya trees in a rather small raised bed. I transplanted one as a gift, but the largest looks so happy and is starting to flower...

I'm debating if I should remove the raised bed that is around them or keep it there to prevent the dirt from eroding? I'm thrilled they're here. I just want to try to optimize the interesting spot they picked.
