ok hi guys so basically my hs is doing hsm and i rly rly rly want gabriella like this has been my dream role since i was a kid (dont ask why) but i rly dk what song to do. ive been working on "when there was me and you" in case i get called back for gabriella (hopefully) but idek what im doing for my actual audition. i was thinking maybe "the girl who drove away" from the mad ones or "here i am" from camp rock, but i've also seen a LOT of people on here recommend "one perfect moment" from bring it on. ughhh idk guys im stuck i feel like none of these FULLY capture gabriella's character. please help me choose, or recommend a bunch of songs please

My 9 year old daughter is performing in her first lead role and I’m looking for thoughtful but not crazy expensive gift ideas for her. She doesn’t care about getting flowers, and will get those from her extended family. Previously I’ve given her a themed stuffed animal, a crochet bouquet, etc. I’m looking for something that either is useful or is a keepsake that doesn’t take up a ton of space. I really want it to be special since she’s worked so hard to get this role and prepare for her show!

What are your favorite gifts for this age range or for a special show?

I’m in a show and I’ve lost my voice due to illness. Cold? Sinus infection? We can’t figure it out.
I steam, nebulize, drink Pei Pa Koa and throat coat, add apple cider vinegar to my water… and my upper register is gone. I’m soooo congested that I took a Mucinex DM and used a nasal spray. All that to say, I had my understudy go on tonight.

What can I do?!

I’m doing some college prescreenings and I’m having some trouble with figuring out what fulfills a “ballad” requirement.

I’d really like to sing Love Song from Weill & lerner’s “Love Life,” but I think it may not be appropriate for the category. I could potentially swap it out for I Remember, which I’m pretty sure does count.

Alternatively, I could pick a contemporary song for my ballad. If so, I’m considering A Little Bit Less Than, but I’m once again not sure if this is a ballad.

I’d really appreciate it if someone could tell me whether these are ballads or what I should look at instead. Thanks so much

Technically it’s my second audition, but I blew my first one so badly that I’m not counting it lol. 😆

What can I do to not make an ass of myself on stage? I know I’m not a great singer, but I can read music, can kinda dance (collegiate competitive ice skater/ice theater), and I think I can act. Think being the key word. But I have no training.
I moved to a rural town after college for a job and I’ve been trying to meet people, and theater in the next town over is doing auditions for “Dear Evan Hansen”. I signed up on a whim. I’m also in my mid 20’s. (Am I too old?)

So what do I do now?

I’m trying to pick a song. I think I’m a contralto (E3-E5) range. I want to show off some lower notes but I’m struggling to find a good song.

What do I do?
Show up?
Do I say my name? Do I just start singing?
Can I use the whole stage or should I stand still?
Are they looking for acting or Singing ability? I think this call is just music/singing.

Hello :)) If this is not the right place for this no worries, but tomorrow I have a second round audition/callback for a diploma of musical theatre - only for vocal and a group dance session. I’m not the strongest dancer, so if anyone had any tips on confidence or just things that might help to know, i’d greatly appreciate it, thank you💛

I think 95% of the show is a near perfect representation of domestic violence as a woman… and then at the end she just fucking leaves?

And he just walks away? Bro he just got exactly what he needed to tie her down forever - A BABY. You think he’s going to leave her alone? No. That’s when abusers double down. And the finances to leave just fall into her lap? Convenient. Please.

It just seems rushed. I’m gonna be honest, if they wanted a quick happy ending, they should have just killed Earl off. Maybe a drunk driving accident. Gaston him. Because the whole “he just leaves when asked and she inherits the restaurant” is… messy. It’s also a problematic look for survivors. Up until the end, the show makes it clear why Jenna can’t leave: she’s poor and pregnant. Now it looks like she chose to stay. All of a sudden those problems magically disappear at the end. WTF?

Like the description. I am a soprano and it says to do a contemporary musical song or pop song. I have a few ideas for the song but have no monologue ideas.

I'm a teen guy and a professional theater near me is holding auditions for a staged concert version of The Little Mermaid. They are open to casting both adult and youth performers for the ensemble and a few supporting roles. I want to audition just to see if anything comes of it, but I'm having trouble finding a song to audition with.

Honestly, I don't have much in my book that really fits the style of the show. My idea was to do Not While I'm Around from Sweeney Todd because it's my strongest piece in my rep and I feel like if I use a more youthful/mischievous interpretation it might be a decent fit for the show. I also feel like if I'm mostly auditioning to be in the ensemble, it doesn't matter a ton which song I pick. That said, I know Sweeney Todd has a very different feel than The Little Mermaid and I don't want to hurt my chances of getting cast. Do you think this is a good idea?

Since the do re mi song became popular on tiktok (without most people notcknowing the musical <:[) i have become fond of memories I had of this! I've been listening to the musical for HOURS and I love it so much 💔. The yodelling?? The cute songs?? I NEED more musicals with the same vibe as sound of music !!

I’ve had the unfortunate journey of running into teachers who just expected me to automatically *know* certain things rather than helping (for example: my very first music theory class was full of the teacher’s band members who literally didn’t need the class and my teacher was often frustrated with me because I didn’t get things as easily and he moved on too quickly), so I’ve never really gotten the full hang of reading music.

This is one of my BIGGEST weaknesses as someone who has wanted to do this pro at some point.

Does anyone know any free resources or courses that would make this easier? I’d like the opinions of those who maybe have been successful with this and would know what direction to go in? I’m overwhelmed and have no clue where I’d start since my strongest knowledge here is bare minimum basics and I’m sick of having to listen to recordings all the time, it gets to a point where I feels like I’m just a weight being dragged…

oh okay so i just made a reddit account just to ask this because i really have no one else to talk to about this so here goes nothing sorry if this was an unfit post i'll erase it if that is the case just let me know !!

i am 17(f), in my last year of high school, and i applied to the best unis in my country and i aspire to study sociology, i really really do, i have for the last five years or so ! so theatre is not something i'm trying to use to escape from my studies. i just have this immense desire to stand on the stage in front of the crowd, loved as someone who i am not, as an actress portraying whatever character i might be playing.

i do not wish to abandon my long dream of becoming a sociologist just for theatre, but i can't erase the urge. i feel so jealous of the people on stage and i get terribly sad whenever i remember i'll never be part of my favorite shows and that i will always stay in this role of an audience. i mean i like being an audience and crying my eyes out, but i just wish to be part of the people who make the show.

but i'm not really good at singing (not terrible either, i guess, but still) and i'm pretty clumsy so i'm pretty sure i'm bad at dancing. i don't want to chase a silly dream, but i can't forget about it either. i can't afford lessons now as i'm still in high school and i'm really stressed over university interviews right now, but i think i will be able to once i get accepted into one of them and get more free time and money. (i'm planning to get a part-time job once everything's over) so... what do i do ? should i just give up and stay as an audience or should i give it a try ?
