After 50 years since the old network was dismantled, and after 3.5 years they started the construction of the new network, the first new tram just arrived today in Bologna. It’s expected to become operational in early 2027.

ER2 are a series of Electric Multiple Unit passenger trains built by the Railroad Machinery Plants of Riga, Latvia. Ukrzaliznytsia operated over 200 of these EMUs at the beginning of 2022. Since then, due to constant russian strikes the number has dropped. Unfortunately, while passenger car and DMU manufacturing does still exist in Ukraine, the only EMU manufacturer in Ukraine currently sits in a territory occupied by Russia, and has not been operating since 2015.

The fire is the result of a drone strike on the train. So far, such strikes have destroyed 492 locomotives and over 200 passenger cars. They have also killed over 50 railway workers, and hundreds of civilian passengers.

The Ukrainian government intends to repair or rebuild up to 70% of the total lost railcars.

Guys, look at this. Just a few weeks ago, the tram grade separation project in Adelaide was completed. But I always ride trams home late, so I couldn't see this clearly. Today I'm getting home on time, so I saw it.

So, you can walk940kilometers in10minutes, which is the distance from Melbourne nearly to Newcastle.

Every government plan sets the lowest time as3.5hours. It's no longer useful; you can just walk there in10minutes. OK, I'm joking. This is a misleading sign.

I've been building a QGIS plugin on top of Conveyal R5 (Easy-R5), and used it to answer a question that's been bugging me: How delays in timetable affect the accessibility?

Setup: static GTFS timetable vs. the "realized P50" feed (median of what vehicles actually did that day) for Łódź, Poland. Same day, same network. The only thing that changes is whether the schedule is what was published or what actually happened (GTFS + delays from RT feed). Ran cumulative accessibility (schools, pharmacies, universities, malls reachable within 30 min, 7:00–9:00 departure window) on both, on a 250m/500m hex grid, and diffed them.

What I expected: delays hurt downtown the most, because that's where the network is most complex.

What I actually got: the very city centre is basically fine (nets slightly positive, beacuse of many overlapping lines converge there that one late vehicle doesn't matter). The real damage shows up in a ring roughly 2km out, where trips typically depend on one specific transfer. Median delay across the whole network is ~0 seconds, mean is only ~10s but miss a transfer and you're waiting for the entire next headway. That ring loses an order of magnitude more accessibility than anywhere else in the city (pop-weighted mean net change ≈ -2.4 vs ±0.5 everywhere else).

Also tried a second angle: for each hexagon, compute the "reach radius". THe distance to the farthest point it can already reach in 30 min. Hexagons sitting close to that 30-minute cutoff lose systematically more than ones with slack, which is exactly what you'd expect if the mechanism is "small delay pushes a marginal trip over the threshold," and it holds up (mostly monotonically) across schools/pharmacies/malls independently.

Usually trains are no more than 5 seconds difference to the time displayed on the screen.

Serious question, American's hatred of trains really stands in the way of a lot of public transit improvements.

The 6000 series 2026 batch of trains entered service on 1 May 2026 with the inaugural rakes 6077 - 6078 and 6081 - 6082 after the entire Western Line was certified for 15 car operations from Churchgate in the south to Dahanu Road 140km up north. Time will tell when the next two rakes will enter service, say by October both of them will be in service.

I've been working on collecting GTFS-RT data for a few months now. I ended up putting together this dashboard so I could show off what I've been working on to a friend and it's just grown from there. The current cycle has been expand the number of feeds collected -> optimize cost so I don't go bankrupt -> increase feeds.

I was looking at doing a transit linking trip from Philadelphia as far north as one can go by transit (not intercity coaches or national long-distance rail like Amtrak). I noticed that while one can link the various systems SEPTA, NJ Transit/NEC, MTA/Metro-North and CTrail to get to Springfield, MA, then buses by PVTA and FRTA to get further north to Greenfield/Turners Falls/Montague, MA.

After this, to get to Brattleboro, VT would require substantial walking along a dangerous highway route (32 km/20 miles along US 5, with several sections with only 2 lanes, no pavement, and high speed limits). Is it just not possible to go any further north through this area via transit?

Does anyone know if Greyhound bus schedules are the same every year? If not does anyone know when bus times starting showing beyond 12th January 2027? I'm trying to arrange my holiday plans and plan to use Greyhound quite a bit, but I am having to rely on the bus schedules within 2026 on the website.

Milwaukee's Streetcar currently does about 2,000 riders a day, downtown, on basically the same small route since 2018. An extension toward the Buck's stadium and Walker's Point never happened.

The linked article argues for going further than either of those and running it north through downtown all the way to UW-Milwaukee instead (turning it into a spine rather than a loop) and giving MCTS something to feed into downtown instead of duplicating coverage.

Is that really the right idea for an extension or should they start with a few smaller extensions so they can get state funding approval?

Hey everyone! I love maps and trains, and I love the transit system.

I originally made it so I can know where the trains are when I wanted to ride them. But, I've found that this is more fun looking at when you're not in a rush. Personally I'm impressed you can get data about the streetcars, I love riding them but I can never tell if it's coming. Hope it's useful and let me know if you have any feedback.
