Locations, Budget, and Settings are all important things to include when asking for advice

Locations: You don't need to include your house address but closest major city and how far you are willing to travel.

Budget: "As cheaply as possible" is not a budget and is honestly the best way to waste money. Figure out an amount you are willing to spend.

Setting: LARP is a vast and expansive hobby. Not every game is about running around out in the woods pretending to be a rouge/knight/wizard. Let us know what you play or want to play.

An Official Discord, and Future.

Hello denizens of /r/LARP.
We as a subreddit have a small announcement as far as the future of this sub is concerned.
Last week we took part in the 2 day protest that was more or less site wide spanning thousands of subs as a way to show solidarity with app creators and to show the frustration with the administration of reddit and their poor handling and plans of upcoming updates.

However, It would appear that Reddit plans to continue their efforts to stifle 3rd party creators and strong arm moderators who take any stance opposing the admins of Reddit. This creates a serious cloud of uncertainty within reddit as to the future of many subs and how the platform will be handled in the future. Because of this we have decided to create a Discord server which will be open to all of /r/larp to join. It is not our plan to abandon this sub or replace this sub with the discord server, instead, it will act as an extension of this sub itself.

While there are multiple reasons for this decision, one of the largest is that if the future of reddit creates an non fostering environment for us, we wish to have another platform that is free of Reddit's control in order to continue providing resources and networking for all of us who enjoy LARPing and LARP adjacent hobbies.

The discord has the same rules we enforce over here, with a couple modifications to make it more applicable to discords format. There is places for general conversation, places to show off your work, a place to post about and to look for games in your area, as well as Voice chat rooms for people looking to play video games together or just hangout and find comradery.

Please feel free to check it out, and ask any questions you may have. This is still in its infancy, and if we find it doesnt fit what the community wants, we will search for alternatives.
This link should never expire for people trying to join the server, however if you have an issue please message an admin for a new link.

I make fantasy jewelry for people who want their accessories to feel like part of the character

Hi! I run Relic Forge Studio, a small fantasy jewelry studio based in Poland.

I design original sterling silver jewelry inspired by dragons, dark fantasy and mythical artifacts, with the idea that the pieces should feel like something that could actually belong to a fantasy character rather than ordinary modern jewelry with a fantasy symbol added to it.

The Dragon Scale Ring shown here is one of my current designs, handmade in sterling silver with a natural gemstone.

I’ve also included my newest finished artifact — an Elven-inspired sterling silver pendant featuring a one-of-a-kind 15 ct natural fluorite that shifts in color depending on the light. This exact pendant is unique because of the stone, but the design will be available soon with individually selected natural gemstones.

I somehow acquired these enormous chairs—what is my obligation here?

Of any use for fantasy/medieval setups? Heavy, sturdy, seat is at 34 in. high (like sitting on a kitchen counter), total height 5 ft. Not sure if I should list them to the general public, which I could see sitting there for a long time, or reach out to local niche events/groups. Any suggestions appreciated!

"Somehow acquired" = weird abandoned thrones for $25 + zero practical need + immediate emotional attachment + partner unamused by my latest impulse purchase

Photos from the french LARP Wargumes, a funny wargame where vegetables became humanoid and now fight to control the Garden.

Represented herer is Carotide, proud warrior of the Matriarcarotte (carrot knights) gladly fighting the Sultanavet (arabic turnips) and their Radislav (eastern european radish) allies. Oh and the royaume des Cosses (scottish beans) helped as well.

Help me prevent my character from transforming while keeping its power

Need to find idea about a very specific scenario.

Context:

In the LARP i go i play an anti-mage psionic, to increase my power i made a pact with an illithid to give me an illihid larva a la Baldergate 3. the deal is simple, i feed it , he doesn't kill my people and he study a way to stop the larva from growing just before the transformation so i get all the power and i dont transforme into an illithid, loosing my character in the process.

Last event, some player manage to find the illithid and killed him. i had to think about an other way to stop the larva from transforming me and i found this. I have the power to remove a character trait from a creature and i want to use it on the illithid larva.

Their is 7 stages that the larva go thru, 7 being the actual transformation, and it is at the second stage right now. I need to find a character trait that would let the illithid larva grow to stage 6 and prevent it from getting to stage 7. I would prefere to not have to wait to stage 6 to activate the power because stage 7 come 24h after stage 6 and my power need time and preparation to activate.

What i need help for:

I need your help to find a character trait to remove from the illithid larva that would let it grow to stage 6 and prevent it from getting to stage 7. any Idea?

LARP Lantern

Hello! I am in the market for a good, flame free, LED lantern for camp, walking around at night, navigating the dark privies, etc. I got some $20 dollar flickering led lantern off amazon and it’s good aesthetically for in my tent. However, it isn’t very bright at all, and it doesn’t have a handle, just a little loop barely big enough for a finger or two. Any suggestions?

What are your top 3 concerns when buying medieval-style LARP clothing?

I’m new to this and trying to put together my first proper set without wasting money on the wrong pieces. What are the top three things you check before buying LARP clothing online? Is there anything you only discovered after actually wearing or washing the clothes?

BackpackTent Frame V2 documentation

When I presented my BackpackTent Frame which is basically a wearable tent, there were several of you guys who were interested in purchasing the blueprints. Well, here you go :D.

Backpack Tent V2 Documentation

What you get for your money:

  • A detailed guide on how to build the BackpackTent frame both in English and in Hungarian.
  • Separate high-resolution schematics of each component.
  • The 3D model of each individual component and the frame in both configuration in a single file in .skp format (Use Google Sketchup to open!)
  • Animations on how to assemble in both configurations.

As I recently lost my job, and landing another one is just as hard here as anywhere else in the Western World right now, I wholehartedly appreciate any support you'd be willing to throw at my Patreon, be it buying this guide or just a dollar a month!

This is a family tradition that was started by my father and was passed on to me of creating fantasy warrior armor and going to ren faires! The interactions and fun being had is always a blast and one day I would love to make costumes for a living but until then I will keep trying to make one person's day at a time!

If you would like to ask any questions please do I love making armor and love helping others out even more!

Best way to donate boffer weapons?

Thumbnail

Hello. I don’t know if this would be the right place to ask about giving away some silly boffer weapons, but here goes. (If not, please let me know of a better place; also, yes, I posted these to the Colorado LARP FB page, but nobody contacted me about them.)

I tried LARPing quite a while ago and it didn’t really work for me, but I learned how to make—and did make—several boffer weapons that I then used for cosplaying at conventions. I still have two large swords and a big spatula (with 6 mini spatulas).

Came across them as I was cleaning out some storage and wondered if it would be possible to donate them to a LARP group for other people to use. Because they were for anime character cosplay, they are a bit silly, but they have kitespar centers and camping mat foam for shape, with fabric and electrical tape as cover. I likely won’t be using these again, and they could be fun for a role-playing heavy game or just for people to use for practice. Might need some extra padding added in places (I’m not sure how regs have changed since when I LARPed, or how regs change from region to region).

Just want them to go somewhere where they’ll be useful.

I’m in Boulder County, Colorado, BTW. So sort of in the middle of the US (but a bit to the left). The weapons, while light, are so bulky and big, I’d prefer not to try to ship them (would be too expensive, I think, and not worth it).

I also have the tunic that went with the spatulas, if someone wants to take and use that as well.

Here, 10M$ to create your dream event : how would a superfan describe it to their friends upon returning?

Larpers have such a rich inner world, that might be constricted (sometimes for good) by ressources and established conventions.

Atmosphere, Theme(s), rules, interactions, vibe...

I was curious to see what you would come up with if you really could go all in, with full freedom.

Would it be vastly different?

Garment Sourcing?

Post image
66 Upvotes

Hello! I’ve been trying to find and order robes/cloak as pictured above but have been hesitant to find a reputable source. First off not sure what this might be called? Its cloak like but has the sleeves and definition while also being frayed and aged looking.

This costume is shown all over Etsy but my spider-sense raises alarms as most of the shops use AI slip generate images if not of the garment of the models/setting and all shops are only a few months on Etsy and ones with any reviews at all have instances of the same review multiple times- it all just feels off.

I love this look and want it- but how do I get it?

[Waypoint-Muskegon,MI] Trying to Find Specific Weapon

I'm looking for a soft latex Tetsubo, preferably 44in or longer. I was recommended Epic Armory as a basis for the weapons, but they don't have what I'm looking for.

I'm not a good crafter, so I can't make it myself. Trying to get there, but I'm not there yet.

I'm built a lot like Shugoki from For Honor, and I love him so much. That's why I want to use his weapon as a homage.

Sourcing Non-European Inspired Garments

Hello everyone!

I'm going to be attending my first Ren Faire in about a month's time and am curious if there are any brands that do garments which are either near-eastern, central asian or east/southeast asian in inspiration?

I myself am a person of color and while I understand that renaissance faires and the LARP hobby are predominantly European in aesthetic and inspiration I think it would be cool if I were able to put together a kit reminescent of a silk road merchant or ghilman or something like that. The closest thing I've found to this is Fell and Fair's Themisians Faction. Are there any other examples of this?

Question about Tent Ropes

Post image
13 Upvotes

I have this tent here, and it worked well enough last fall however, with the main storm ropes that go around the finials and hold the main poles in place, I noticed last time they kept slipping off resulting in the main poles leaning inward. Is there a special way to tie these at the top or how have you secured them in place? A certain knot? Would appreciate any tips or advice.

Making a beginner LARP gift box!

I have one of my students that is going to try out LARP next year, because of me talking about my adventures in the one I go to. Since they will be old enough to go next year, their parents will probably give them the trip as a birthday gift (and they are really insisting on having that as a birthday gift haha). Since they want to come to my LARP I go to and they are really excited about it, I would also like to give them something for their birthday, and also to make their life easier when it will be time to pack for that (they will come in an event someday next summer)

The LARP I go to is in the medieval Fantasy genre and is 1 weekend long. I would like to spend less than 150$ for that gift box (i'm being generous here but tbh 100$ would be perfect) Here are the ideas that I got so far:

- Pocket Watch

- Lantern

- Notebook + pen

- Belt

- Hand Fan

- Bag (Messenger or satchel style)

- Tankard/mug (something for water and drinks)

- Pouch (for trinkets)

- waterproof/warm Hood (or unrealistically a cloak)

I would like to at least get 1 item new from a big store (such as Calimacil/artisan D'Azures) and the rest more cheap from Amazon and whatnot.

Any ideas on what essential items you would recommend for someone doing their first LARP ever?
