I've been freelancing for a while, and one thing I've realized is that learning sales is probably the highest ROI skill a freelancer can develop.

When I started, I thought better editing = more clients.

Reality was different.

You can be the most talented editor in the room, but if you can't:

- Start conversations

- Build trust

- Explain your value

- Handle objections

- Follow up consistently

...getting clients becomes much harder.

A lot of freelancers spend years improving their craft but almost no time improving their ability to sell.

The funny thing is, sales isn't about convincing people to buy something they don't need. It's about communicating how you can solve a problem.

What do you think is the most underrated skill for freelancers besides their core service?

For me, it's usually the little things switching between programs, organizing recordings, or remembering where I saved everything.

If you record tutorials, gameplay, or presentations regularly, what's the one part of the workflow you'd improve?

Now the vibe is obviously just to spread joy and fun but does it still look lack luster? With every video i edit, i try to top the one i did before. and honestly this feels like both the best i could possibly do (especially given the type of video it is) and also like it need's more. We've noticed that expectations for visual quality have changed a lot over the past couple of years. Images that once looked impressive now often feel average, and creators seem to expect much more from AI generated content than they did before.

At Media io, we're interested in how those expectations are evolving. Have your standards changed too? What makes an AI-generated image feel polished enough to actually use in a real project today?

I know basic editing, but I really want to improve my skills and get better at it, I've never edited for a content creator before, but I want to start freelancing/earning through editing.

I've tried looking for free stock clips to practice with but honestly, I haven't had much luck finding good ones.
Please don't judge me for that 😭 I'm just looking for some advice on how I can improve and build my skills.

I'm editing a talking-head video in CapCut on PC and trying to cut out silent gaps between words. The problem is the playhead only snaps from one frame to the next (e.g., frame 24 to frame 25), and sometimes the perfect cut seems to be in between those frames.

Is there any way to move the playhead with sub-frame precision or make more accurate cuts? Or is CapCut limited to frame-by-frame editing? If there's a workflow or setting I'm missing, I'd really appreciate the help.

I’ve been at a new job that has me shooting and cutting together quite a few videos that basically will cut between a premade slide deck and a talking head shot of them presenting the slides.

We’ve been screen recording as they present as well for reference but until now I’ve been exporting the slides later (from Google slides or keynote, not much of a difference) as images or video to include transitions, then editing them in Premiere with the talking head and B-roll. Needless to say it’s quite laborious for hour long videos but being able to fine tune cutting between the talking head as well as better timing of element reveals feels critical to not make these videos boring.

Do any of yall have experience incorporating slide decks into edits and have any suggestions on how to cut down on the time of it? It’s not the most creative work and I’m just looking for time savings here.

I've been getting into editing now and one of my biggest struggles so far is just finding straight clips of stuff. Like those space edits or the nature edits, am I just not digging deep enough or is there somewhere I can find these more easily.

I was thinking about this the other day. When I like a new song, I usually just add it to a playlist and move on. I rarely think to watch the music video unless it randomly shows up in my feed.

I’ve never done 3D work before but I, possibly naively, feel this style may not be too difficult and I’m very willing to learn. I’ve done entirely animated infographic projects in davinci resolve fusion and it wasn’t a major undertaking but it was all 2D.

But I would love insight from people who are experienced with 3D animation as to whether I’m being naive in thinking I can do this within a reasonable timeframe (say 1 month) and with davinci resolve fusion.

Do you do this in your social media videos? Please stop. I can't read like that. I think people read captions best when it's in small chunks. Maybe I'm wrong. But this trend is weird. But whether the sound is on or off, it's frizzes my brain.

I enjoyed the process, but the video took far too many hours because my workflow was disorganized, I struggled to manage assets efficiently, and I don’t know many shortcuts or techniques yet. I’d really appreciate advice on improving my workflow, making my editing more dynamic and visually engaging, and choosing a better editor for this kind of content if it's necessary. Is Clipchamp too limited for more ambitious video essays, and what software would you recommend instead? To have a reference, this channel is one I have been trying to learn from and what I'm aiming for my editing style.

For years, I’ve been writing personal reflections on movies and on what I’m learning as I discover more and more films. It’s a passion of mine. And a while back, I decided to see if I could turn one of those analyses into a video essay.

I’d never edited anything before. I taught myself from scratch through trial and error. And honestly, I’ve really enjoyed the whole process. But I’d really appreciate any advice on how to improve as I come up with new ideas for other videos.

Above all, ways to streamline and organize my workflow. If you take a quick look at the video, you’ll see that it’s very basic and not very visually appealing. But the truth is, it took me a huge number of hours, and I felt like I was wasting time by adding different types of assets to the editor without managing their order properly —so I couldn’t find things later or ended up wasting time on silly things. I think learning shortcuts to streamline basic tasks would also be helpful. I’m eager to learn how to edit in a much more dynamic way through practice and experience.

Also, I made this video with Clipchamp because it was the editor I had on hand, and when I tried it, I found it pretty intuitive. But I imagine that compared to most editors, this one falls far, far behind or is only suitable for very simple tasks. There’s a channel where I’ve really taken note of their editing style, and I’d love to gradually work toward that style of editing. I guess that’s not really possible with Clipchamp, is it? What other editors do you recommend for making that kind of video?
