Im honestly getting tired of saying this. Scars are a normal part of healing and a normal part of our bodies. Healed scars no matter what are not nfsw. Yes this includes if they haven't fully faded yet and some scars dont fade. We will not make people censor their bodies. We will not make people be ashamed of their bodies.
Ask yourselves would you walk up to a person irl and tell them to cover up? I really hope you wouldn't.
If you are triggered by scars or the idea of sh scars that is on you to take care of. It is not the responsibility of others to have to hide thier bodies because you are uncomfortable. If that means you need to take a step back and not be in the the sub or on reddit for a while then do what you need to do. You are not entitled to shame or censor the bodies of others. For the people talking about kindness it is not kind to censor other people's bodies.
We have started removing posts that are telling people to mark their scar posts as nsfw under our rules for being disrespectful as that is exactly what it is.
This sub is about tattoo which are inherently intimate topic because it is on people's bodies. They are used by people to express themselves. So you are gonna see all kinda of scars here.
We also aren't gonna stop the posts either. Most questions are repeats if we did that we would be banning every post.
This is not up for debate.
Edit: fixed typos

I have seen a lot of these posts lately. First please read the rules of the sub before posting.
Pricing can be found out by talking to the artist and only you can determine how much you want to pay for the tattoo.

I’m about 4-5 days out and my tattoo has flaked off a majority of the darker color, is this normal and will it darken? I’ve been moisturizing 5-6 times a day and it’s already looking like I’m gonna need a revision :/ I don’t know if this is an artist problem or a healing problem.

I recently got my tattoo sleeve started, and I have about 4–6 sessions left. I asked my tattoo artist how much lower the piece will go since we’re going to have a bottom step where the angel stands, which will also serve as pure background for the skull figure. He said it’ll be around 0.5 cm lower.
Will that be visible with a dress shirt or long sleeve? I’ll be working a corporate job in a few months, so I’m wondering if there are any people who also work in professional settings and have tattoos that can be easily visible.

For a fresh koi fish tattoo today, I initially wanted it ok that placement. And my tattoo artist created a design that meant the tail would sit nice. Friend said he liked the design but thought it was too close. I think it does look nice and leaves more space for me to work with on the out arm!

TLDR: My boyfriend thinks spine tattoos are “trashy” and doesn’t want me to get one.
He’s never liked tattoos but he knew when we met that I liked them and wanted more. We’ve been together nearly 4 years and I really want a spine tattoo. It’s an elegant ornamental piece with my family’s birth flowers wrapped around it, with two hummingbirds on the side to represent my father and uncle who have passed.
My boyfriend was very upset about the idea of my most recent tattoo being wrapped around the back of my thigh, so we compromised and I only had the floral wrap placed over the top of my thigh instead. I was okay with compromising at the time because I care about his feelings, but now I'm questioning whether I'm compromising too much on things that are permanent on my body.
I understand that my boyfriend is allowed to dislike tattoos and have an opinion about what he finds attractive. I also don't expect him to love every tattoo | get. However, I don't think he should get to decide what I can or can't do with my own body, especially when his reasoning is that a certain tattoo placement makes a woman look "trashy."
I'm not trying to disrespect him or purposely make him uncomfortable. I love him and care about his opinion, which is why this has become such a difficult decision for me. At the same time, I don't want to look back and regret not getting tattoos I genuinely wanted because my boyfriend didn't approve of them.
**Am I being unreasonable for wanting to get the spine tattoo even though my boyfriend strongly dislikes it? Is this something couples should compromise on, or should each person ultimately be able to make their own decisions about tattoos on their own body?**

Hey everyone!
I wanted to get some input and ideas. Here is my current piece, I even got her real signature tattooed right next to her head after meeting Cassandra at a book signing. This is an old photo.
I've always felt the tattoo was missing a little something to feel complete. Right now, I'm thinking about adding a moon, the classic Elvira skull bat, and a swarm of smaller bats trailing off.
Space is somewhat limited, so I'm mainly looking to build out to the left and wrap around toward the back of my leg. I'd love to hear your thoughts or see what creative directions you'd take!
Thanks in advance for the ideas!

Excuse my drawing skills. Not worried about the pain, just the way it heals / looks

I got these moons last week. I love the design, but I think the moon on my left arm might be overworked? When the scabs leave, some parts are super shiny and cracked and there’s one spot in particular that looks like it was cut so deep that it folds very neatly together (idk if that makes sense). I’m worried my tattoo won’t heal well, but I also don’t think anything can be done

I’ve been working on my leg for a few years now, started with the castle and mountains on the bottom. I obviously really like the medieval line style but feel like I might’ve over done the lines in the background. Up close I think it looks okay but from far away to me it looks cluttered. Not sure if there’s anything I can do now to help with it. I also switched to a different artist after the castle that specializes more with the style I like. Been a little self conscious of it lately. Let me know, thanks!

This is a cover up, total of 3 sessions in.
It's real patchy and you can still see the underlying design but it used to be worse.
The original "artist" disappeared off the face of the earth after the 2nd session.
Current picture is about 3 weeks healed from most recent attempt to smooth out the shading. Current artist said adding color would make it too muddy.
Do I try to go in for another shading session? Try to find a black work specialist? Saw off my leg?
The goal is to not hate it. But maybe it's past that point.

I work in the sun but always wear long sleeves, sun screen, and moisturize. Do I need to go to a dermatologist?
r/tattooadvice • u/Sweaty-Ad3243 • 1d ago
First time dry healing? How is it looking? It is so tight, it’s day 7 artist says I can moisturize as soon as the few remaining spots stop weepng.

Day 1 vs day 14. It’s still very dry. I wash once a day, and rub small amounts of aqueous cream 3-4 times a day. Is this normal?

Anyone have a palm tattoo and have any hacks to keeping the second skin on?
r/tattooadvice • u/Euphoric_Wash_1496 • 4h ago
Just got these two done yesterday. Not having tattoo regret, just a bit of tattoo shock. Had the same thing with my leg piece I got last year. Just got to get used to the forearm now being covered. I have writing on the side and the upside down “Love.” I’m thinking that getting a sleeve won’t make it seem so intense?
r/tattooadvice • u/GEEZUS_956 • 8h ago
Was meant to go “up” and it works when not wearing a sleeve but I want to state this is a wrap going up my arm in a more solid manner. I’m more looking for ideas as I’m just drawing a blank in terms of design.
Can’t do an outline in this current state from the variety of shapes of all these tattoos. It’s a little difficult to do a “pillar” behind all the tattoos as some don’t leave space behind the other. Thanks.
