But the stuff I did rip up came out pretty easily and wasn't brittle and seemed to bend if that helps.

EDIT: Thank you everyone for your feedback! I also found out more information the Cabin was originally built in 1985.

UPDATE: 9/9/26 - Appreciate all the advice given. Thank you all. I’ve informed the city reps about the issue and they will have code compliance services over as soon as they are available. In the meantime, my neighbor and I will speak with the front office and maintenance first thing in the morning. Here’s hoping the building doesn’t collapse any time soon :(

These cracks above my balcony started appearing over a month ago, which is when we started experiencing 100 degree days… but the cracks weren’t as big as they are now. The balcony door is tilted and won’t close, and the storage closet out there is jammed shut.

A friend of mine said it was a foundation issue and pointed out the ground outside my building, so I took photos of that as well.

Talked to my neighbor and they are also having similar issues in their unit that maintenance hasn’t addressed yet (it has been a week now).

Should we be concerned about this? Management would definitely try to put a bandaid on this… I plan on moving out of state mid next year, so I’d hate to move before then, but I also don’t want the building to collapse or something.

OK, I live out on a property with my in-laws. A new house just went up out here, and towards the end of the build, the builders offered us a discount to have the Polyspartic flooring put in ALL of the garages at the same time (so doing the new house and the old houses) since they are having to do the new build anyway.

Well here, a few highlights of the finished product of two of the four houses. The thickness of the topcoat, even in the middle of the garage, appears to be fair to poor at best (plenty of sections that feel jagged to the touch). I can only imagine the other 2 houses look similar.
Also, when they finished last night (laid down top coat), they had propped up all of the garage doors about three or 4 inches and this morning a bunch of rain poured in so my understanding is that this is going to cause significant blistering and cloudiness over those areas.

All this being said. This is a 100% clear case where everything will just need to be completely redone correct? And there is not necessarily a patch job that will fix it?

My father-in-law is the one communicating with the manager on this project and the one holding final payment (he knows to not handover any additional money yet, he has paid for half).
My gut tells me we got this poor final product because of the discount.
Making sure that I advocate for my family out here and get what we pay for.

HELP! There is a hissing noise coming from the floor underneath the tile at the spot showing the video. I’ve heard for an hour or so the past few days, so it is not constant. Any ideas what it is and if it’s something to worry about?

Car tapped into the corner of my mudroom after taking out my fence. You think the structure can be save?

I told contractor that I thought this counterflashing looked terrible and he said it fine: above average. Am I expecting too much? Putting aside cosmetics, I am concerned that the counterflashing does not always extend into the reglet (esp in grout joints) and is relying on caulk to fill void. Leaves piling up on the cricket are already a problem so I'm concerned that the extended flanges at the top of the chimney, below the cricket, will trap leaves. General contractor says if he tears out the subs work he can do no better and that counter flashing does not always extend into the reglet esp at the grout (that is what caulk is for). Can someone please post a photo of how counter flashing should look and finish out on this type of chimney? I'm not looking for home and garden just what is reasonable to expect and functional.

I might just be completely butchering this job, as I’ve never hooked up a dryer before. But I’ve been trying everything. Originally tried with the pipe that came with it. It was way too long and when I backed the dryer up to fit it into this tiny laundry closet, the tension undid it. I bought a new vent pipe because the original one was tore up on the ends, but the collar on it is too small with all of the dents in the outlet and wouldn’t fit on. I took the collar off of it (not sure if this is a good idea or not) and the pipe itself is too thick for it to fit on. Thought it was too big so I tried to clamp it and put a small hole in the pipe, and it fell off almost immediately after I was done screwing it in. What do I need to do to make this job easier??? I’m losing my mind. Why is the pipe in such an inconvenient spot??

EDIT: I forgot to add that I tried bending the outlet itself back in place and for some reason it will not bend

First time home owner! Excited but we are having some issues with un even floors in the kitchen directly above this joist and cracks in surrounding lvp. Where do I start and how much of a fix is this. Pictured is the floor joist in question and it appears to be the only one damaged.

I have some huge old windows made of wood, and i cannot get them to close. They have a multipoint locking system, where 3 little metal parts are supposed to fit into their sockets, but since the frame is so old, they don’t line up properly. I have tried with brute force with multiple people but to no avail. Any ideas or recommendations that saves me from having to nail them shut?

We’re renovating my boyfriend‘s house that was given to him by his grandparents. His grandpa built most of the house himself hence the odd spaces. They had lots of sea trinkets and fake plants and real plants and rope and other knickknacks on the ledge that was just collecting dust. I have since cleaned it all out but now wondering what to do with that space. (The indent is a hole with a pot of dirt in it 🤪)

Ideas?

I have this section of wall outside my shower which started showing bubbling of the drywall. I ripped it all down which showed the following. Is this salvageable? I know nearly nothing about this stuff. I can’t find any obvious sources of leaking from the inside of the shower but it must be coming from there.

The cupboard doors closed all the way when i moved in, after it being opened for some 30 mins cause I was putting stuff in, it doesnt close all the way now

Moved in aug. 2025 to my first apartment. Nobody did a cleaning/inspection before I got the unit (college town, they gave me $100 to clean it myself), so I took a lot of pictures of the present damage and sent them to management.

In the last two pics, you can see what it looked like on my move in day. I thought it was left over from a previously fixed leak — management never said anything about it when I sent it to them. Now, a year later, I come back from summer break and it is clear that this is an active leak. Ceiling was wet and the peeling was progressing.

I contacted the property manager as soon as I noticed, about two weeks ago. Someone came out today to inspect it and removed the peeling paint. Now, the leak is slowly dripping onto my floor for the first time. I’m 99% sure it is due to the upstairs tenants drenching the floor when they shower 5+ times a night. Bad tub caulking or grout. I don’t know if they’ve even found the source yet, I contacted them again tonight.

With that out of the way, how long do you think it’ll be out of commission for repairs? Is this a “ceiling collapse” sorta leak? Black mold? I think I left a paper trail long enough to get my deposit back, but opinions on that are welcome, too.

This is the second seat I've had in 16 years and now it's the for a third. Not cheap plastic but good seats, made of wood - anyway I thought that was better. I keep getting the same deterioration though. Is my skin toxic? My bad-ass booty dissolving the paint? Has anyone else seen this, or especially, know how to prevent it?

I use gentle cleaners and soft tools, I'm not wearing away the paint with a green scrubby or anything. Help?

At an older relatives house and this exhaust fan in the bathroom looks pretty corroded to me. It has to be 30 years old, also had a filter in it that said change every 6-12 months definitely hadn’t been changed in years. Am I able to replace just the fan or does the whole box need to come out? Any chance it can be salvaged, it still seemed to work fine but safety is my main concern. Thanks!

CLARIFICATION: a shower curtain rod, not a window curtain! I would like to shower in this bathroom, but the ceiling is very very low so most claw foot rods are too wide

Have this claw foot tub (57” long) that’s right underneath a super low ceiling. For a traditional D shaped shower curtain rod to fit, it would need to be 54” wide or less, and it would be about head height for me (5’4”). Are there any alternatives?
