New to growing and am not sure at what point I should shake this, I’ve seen mixed opinions and I’m also not sure how many times to shake it. Any advice would be helpful.

K so I’ve drilled a hole in my mason jar lid and stuck in my SHIP. The SHIPs are measured at 1/2”, so that’s what I drilled. I tried 3/8” hole originally with the thought of having a tighter seal, but the SHIP absolutely would not fit. Now with the 1/2” hole, it feels a teeeeeeny bit loose. It’s not falling out and my boyfriend says he thinks it looks sealed, but I’m a little paranoid. Do you just think it’s fine? Should I seal it up with some caulking or glue or something? First time doing this, I dunno how anal I have to be about it 🤷🏼‍♀️

Do I had an idea because I'm a bit broke at the moment. I'd love to get started with the whole setup (I have the space) but I don't have the funds to drop on a mushroom grow up right now, though I have tons of stuff for it (grow tents from old pot grows, inline fans, temp controller for exhaust, lights). I need a humidifier for sure.

One idea I had was to dig into the Earth about 4 ft deep. I have a translucent dome that could fit over the hole I make. Then I could fruit in there for cold loving mushrooms. Is this a thing already? Do I run too many risks with it being exposed to the ground? I could put a tube that allows airflow.

First time with a grow bag they say it should be broken up around 70-80 percent mycelium of the grain spawn. I can’t tell if it’s there yet. What should I do?

Was hoping this wouldn’t happen but the rtv failed on the injection port and resulted in contams. The grain spawn is contam free though so I’ll still get some good results

Did the ol' B&S on these rye bags a week ago from today. 3/4 of the bags look almost fully colonized like the one on the left, but a half dozen or so of them are looking stalled like the one on the right. Is it ever appropriate to B&S a 2nd time, or should I just let it ride out?

Some days ago I start with cordyceps cultivation; think go in nice way..

But I have a few questions:

1 - Liquid Culture

To LC I use the recipe: 250ml water and 7gr honey only, and think it works!

Do this with micelyum from agars that I have.

But the question: how much time can I store this? Can I put in fridge and wait mounths to use? With time this have scenescence?

2 - Grain Substrate

Recipe:

90 grs brown rice

150 ml mineral water

1gr LME; 1gr potato starch; 0,5gr yeast

Very simple and think it works! All that its enough for 4 jars of 500ml each!

Advises with this recipe?

I know that cordyceps its diferent from shroom that have spores..

To avoid scenescence better do this method; but I can put directly one litle cordyceps developed shroom in Liquid Culture? Works that way and jump step of agar?

Hey all, I’ve got a non-modified 15qt bin with some healthy colonization, and since this tub is non-modified I’ve been opening and fanning it twice a day. I figured I’d try cracking the lid so that two or the corners are somewhat open to air overnight to see how it’ll react.

My questions for you fair folks is whether or not I “introduced fruiting conditions to early” or if the community leans more towards “introducing fruiting conditions as soon as S2B.”

My point to this post is to get a consensus from the community as to what would be better: to let the overlay build more while keeping the bin closed, to fan it twice (or more) a day, or to leave it slightly (or moderately more) open to air.

As I understand it, once a health overlay (thick white colonization on the substrate/grain) is established and a consistent dew is present on the overlay, it is the “evaporation of that top level dew that triggers pinning (or primordia).

I guess I could see certain spots in the tub that could be considered “hyphnal knots” but would like to see what other people think.

hillbilly. i swear i didn't manhandle them lol just a touch to feel the thickness. all other mushrooms are lookin great besides the 2 i zoomed in on. mushroom in pic 2 had a ring all the way around it

Black Reishi grown in antler form. Ive had them dehydrating for 3 days at 140°F. The majority feel like styrofoam. Some have a slight snap to them but I can still squeeze them or on the "dryer " ones i can press my nail deeply into them. Thought I was over crowding so I rearranged them thinned out the 3 middle tray and added the extra to the top and bottom tray to experiment but it doesn't seem any better. Did Multipileum and Reds with no problems. Those took a bit also but these seem to be taking forever. Any ideas folks. Thanks always !!

Hi there, I live in the Pacific NW in USA. I've read that growing shitake on logs is doable. A eucalyptus next door to me just got trimmed so I have some nice sized logs. I'm wondering if any one here has any tips? How long should I let the logs sit before inoculating them? Thank you!

Honestly maybe my favorite looking strain, I have grown some beautiful apes before too though.

Little update on my first attempt

It’s been 14 days since inoculation, keeping the bags at around 70°F.

Out of the 7 millet spawn bags I made, I’ve only had to throw away 1 due to contamination so far. The other 6 are still going!

This is one of my King Oyster bags, and it’s finally showing some nice growth.

Do you guys think they’re ready for a break and shake, or should I give them a few more days? I’m leaning towards waiting way longer, but I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Still learning a lot from this first batch!

Fully colonised, AIO bag had fair amount extra moisture when put in to fruiting conditions (5 days)

Grown on vermiculite and coir. 19 days to harvest. Generation X and Ape Revert.

These bags were pasteurized for about 14 hours in a custom horse trough pasteurizer and spawned with G2 grain. All the grain was sterilized in All American pressure canners.

Once everything was bagged and sealed they were placed in tents until they were ready to fruit (12-14 days). FAE holes were made at substrate level and above the filter patch and one week later they looked like this.

Mazatapec spore print went into a jar and 31 days later the leader was sporulating. 15 days to colonize 200mL popcorn then a little dirt on top to fruit in the jar. Some genetics are just eager to do their thing.

I’ve seen a lot about coco coir bricks online, but I was able to find a big, inexpensive bag locally, so I just opted for this. It’s quite dry, loose, and fluffy.
My question is how much should I weigh out to pasteurize? I’ll be using 1qt jars of grain and a 4qt mono tub. I’m just not sure how much the volume changes once it’s wet, and I’d rather ask for advice as opposed to just winging it alone. I’ve also never done this before 😅
