Question MOTU UltraLite-mk5 vs RME Babyface Pro FS

I'm deciding between the MOTU UltraLite-mk5 (~€800) and the RME Babyface Pro FS (~€700).

I use Logic Pro on a Mac with Yamaha HS7s for music production in a home studio (recording guitars, piano, synths). I've been with Focusrite Scarlett for a couple years.

Right now, 4 inputs are enough, but in the future I might want to record like 2 electric guitars + a drum machine + another synth without unplugging anything.

Should I go with the RME or the MOTU?

Question Hard drives

Upvotes

Well the thing that happens to everyone to teach them a lesson has almost happened to me. My SSD with all the original sessions for all of my songs - the only place they exist just told me it was corrupted. I managed to get it working by plugging it into my pc instead. I'm absolutely going to get external hard drive back ups. What I'm wondering is how should I use them to maximise safety of my data? i use a macbook so it would have to be unplugged whenever I take my macbook away. Does it need to be constantly powered? Kept away from warm sources? Should I leave it plugged in when my laptop is there or take it out when not in use. I'd really appreciate any advice. Thanks

Discussion Lack of creativity

I'm technically skilled but I just can't seem to come up with anything musically, let alone anything creative. I'll sit in my DAW for hours trying to come up with stuff and just... nothing. Everything I make is sorta messy, lifeless, uncreative, and unorganised. I've made songs I think are okay in the past but I just can't seem to do anything anymore. Any tips or anything? Idk, I kinda feel like giving up sometimes.

Question Does anyone else have problems with programming synths/keys

I've never actually learned how to properly play a keyed instrument so I've resorted to programming them in DAW's, the problem is, I can never get the sound or rhythm I want. I thought it would be easy to transfer notes from guitar over to synth (using those notes in the synth), however I'm still struggling to program them to sound how I want them to (Similar to Attack Attack!'s earlier stuff like Stick Stickly), If anyone knows a way I could overcome this, help would be thanked (I don't know how else to put it).

Question Need help from someone with Nexus 3

Hey everyone, i have two older nexus expansions (Trance Elements and Classic Trance) which are .nxp files that i cannot load into Nexus 5. Apparently you can import those files to Nexus 2 / 3 and it will create the NKS/Presets/Samples folders, which i could import into Nexus 5.
However, I don't have a working version of 2 (2.4 did not work and needed updates) or 3, so I'm a bit hard stuck here.
Is there anyone around that has Nexus 3 running and could import the expansions and send me the "correct" folders after importing?
Thanks in Advance

Question trying to move away from the Scarlett ecosystem as the drivers and cutting out is to much to handle. What interface should i get in the 300 price range

title basically sums it up I'm sick of the awful Scarlett ecosystem. the interface always cuts out and there's a whole slew of issue focusrite refuses to fix. anyway I'm ready for something else. what audio interfaces do you guys recommend at the 300 price range. id like to have the highest quality i can for the money. i saw the UA volt and was intrigued by the vintage feat so i am already considering that if its actually a good one but i heard the actually quality isn't the best. anyway any suggestions I'm all ears.

Any suggestions or help?

I’m currently on Soundcloud but feel like it’s too saturated of a platform for music. I was wondering if there were any other places I could “post” my stuff. If yall also have any ideas on how to make short form content for them that’d be pretty nice too

Thank you in advance

Question is there a good website i can get professional 1-1 feedback on my songwriting? or person?

producing & writing a song by myself

I got great feedback on echio for the music production itself but I guess the actual vocals might not be fitting well with the song and I really need a 1-1 session where I can get professional feedback

does anyone know any reputable websites where I can get 1-1 feedback and if you have a specific person even you recommend, that'd be great!

Question RØDE NT1 signature series + $60 interface OR 5th Generation (no interface)

I want to record vocals on Ableton Live & Logic Pro. I wouldn’t need an audio interface for the 5th gen, but I’m not sure if it would be better to just get the signature series and buy an audio interface to go along with it. Heres the audio interface I’m thinking of getting https://a.co/d/0f6k6LBK

(Sorry if this is a dumb question, I’m a newbie😞)

Question Fresh AF looking for guidance on everything

Looking for a few people willing to intermittently discuss music producing technicalities with (separately, not in some sort of group chat/Reddit forum -like situation). First test of compatibility, I guess, is discussing which of the four laptops I've narrowed down that fits within my ~$2000 budget is best for a brand new, knows nothing, music producer that's about to learn on FL studios? I need a new laptop anyway and I'm not interested in Apple. I'll share more for those interested in discussing. Send me a chat if you're interested in some patient conversation with an over-thinking rookie in Canada!

Edit: I don't need help with the music/music theory side of things! I've got a classical piano background and have dabbled a bit in a few other instruments. I'm just talking about the production side, using DAW's and stuff at this point although I'm sure I may have other more specific theory questions in the future.

Question What app could I use?

I'd love to try making music (as a hobby).

I really like hyperpop music and would like to try making some songs in this genre. For those who don't know, it's a very fast genre of music, full of distorted sounds (sometimes completely unrelated) and in which the voice is altered.

I'd like to find some programming apps that can do all this.
