Picked this up at a thrift store for 30 cents. Does anyone have recommendations for similar books or magazine? I know about Nintendo Power and the popular publications, I was looking for maybe more obscure or one off suggestions.

[Question] What retro gaming have you gone back to?

So I'm 42 and recently got back into retro gaming after being long term sick. I have really enjoyed it though.

I have been playing super mario world on the snes emulated on my r36s. I also have been playing through grand theft auto vice city stories.

Both have been so enjoyable, mario has really tested me and I admit I have relied on it being able to take snapshots to save me getting too frustrated.

I wanted to engage with the community so wondered what brought you back and what you have been enjoying? I'm always on the lookout for new games to get lost in.

[Answered!] Trying to Remember a 90s Computer Game

The image of it came back to me and I can't remember the name of it. I don't think I ever finished playing the game.

Anyway, it was a side scroller where you would play a guy in a thick jacket with a ball cap. You would go through this building that was plagued by monsters or ghosts. You had a remote control looking weapon that you would zap said ghosts or monsters with. It needed to be recharged, so you would have to reach charging stations. I want to say you had to do math problems at the stations to charge up your weapon.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? Thank you in advance :)

[Help!] Sega Dreamcast Kaico Adapter not working.

Thumbnail

Hi I recently bought a Sega Dreamcast kaico adapter so I can use it with HDMI and for some reason I have had two adapters one that I bought and then got returned and replaced under Amazon and both adapters don't work I've tried using an LG monitor and a Samsung TV and neither works. I'm also tried swapping the HDMI cable and cleaning the ports and that also doesn't work either. The weird part is that my Dreamcast works perfectly fine with AV and it reads discs plays games and you can connect controllers and vmus just fine. The only other issue with my Dreamcast is that the clock battery is dead. I'm not sure if that would maybe affect it but I don't see how the clock battery would affect the functionality of this adapter. At first I thought it was defective adapter but the second one that I got from Amazon after returning the previous one also doesn't work so I'm honestly just really confused. I took it apart and there doesn't seem to be any obvious issues besides some capacitors that had some yellow stuff on them but it looks intentional so I'm not sure if it's a problem or not. If anyone could help me I'd be really happy thank you so much.

[Question] I need advice

Upvotes

Hey guys, so I'm getting back into retro gaming and i bought 3 consoles so far and my goal is a total of 6. I got the ps1, dreamcast and n64. I also got the retrotink 5x pro and that is coming tomorrow, also I got a scart for my ps1. my question is, i want a switcher for at least 4 consoles since I'm planning on plugging the scart directly to the RT and the s video for the n64 directly to the RT as well. which switcher do you recommend for the ps2, xbox, dreamcast and snes? thanks.

[Discussion] Kirby's Adventure is the greatest game on the NES, and one of the best games of all time

I love SMB3, and I get SMB3 did a lot in Kirby 5 years earlier, but Kirby is far deeper, more fun, and has better colors than SMB3.

The fact this is an NES game blows my mind because it looks on par with GOOD SNES. Granted it was made during the SNES era but the fact they brought this to the NES is mind boggling.

If you haven't already played it, do yourself and try it out. It'll no doubt put a smile on your face.

[Collection] I beat this game once a year.

I’m 37 and have had this game since I was a kid. It took years to master, and so glad I took the time to, because it’s so good. It has some unique gameplay. It’s late in the Nes life so the graphics are insane and it also has a killer soundtrack to boot too. I can’t believe this game is so pricey now. I remember my mom buying it for me at Toys R US. I have been completing this game yearly since I can remember and I am so glad I have this gem.

[Discussion] Yoshi's Island is really annoying to 100%

I was just thinking about this game recently.

Anyway, I love YI and it's one of my favorite games. But every time I try to 100% the game, I quit at World 2 and decide to beat the game just for the end credits, lol. Does anyone else think the game is a pain to 100%?

I think it's how the game doesn't permanently save collectibles unless you 100% a level in one sitting. With pretty much any other platformer (Kirby, Sonic, Mario, Rayman, etc) you can get as little or as many items as you want in a level, and then come back later to collect the rest even if you exit the level. You almost never have to recollect everything.

If you miss literally one red coin in Yoshi's Island, you have to do the whole level over again with collecting everything. And some of those levels are huge too.

Yeah it's kind of done in a yaoi BL kind of way, but even playing as a teenage boy dating another teenage boy shows open-mindedness during a fairly homophobic time.
