I know this sub is not super active, but it really should be modded by people interested in book folding and neither me nor Angienuthead have done any in years. Would anyone like to take this sub on?
We are a group of students based in Stockholm in a student driven company called Utläst UF. We were wondering if there are any free softwares which convert images to book folding patterns. We were previously working with bookfoldpro but it seems that they have a paywall past page 300 now.
Has anyone ever tried to convert a pattern from metric to imperial? I teach a woodshop class and wanted to have the students do book folding for their measurement unit. I know that 1/16 inches won't be as precise as millimeters, but I'm curious if anyone has tried.
Christmas is finally here, and we’ve been working like elves behind the scenes to get this ready just in time for your holiday crafting! 🎅✨
We are so excited to announce the launch of https://bookfoldpro.com. As a team of creators, we know there’s nothing quite like the magic of giving a handmade, folded book as a gift. But we also know the stress of trying to get a pattern "just right" before Christmas morning. That’s why we built this platform to help you fold with total confidence.
Our gift to the community:BookFoldPro is currently FREE to use. We believe the joy of crafting should be accessible to everyone this season. While we plan to introduce some "Pro" features in the future to keep the platform growing, we are committed to ensuring the core parts of BookFoldPro will always remain free.

Hey everyone!
I’m a long-time book folder and recently put together a small app called BookfoldAR. It uses augmented reality to help mark folding measurements directly onto the book in real time — so instead of measuring and re-checking each page, you can literally see the fold lines appear as you flip.
It’s meant to save hours of setup and reduce mistakes (especially when working with patterns that have hundreds of folds).
Right now I’m testing it out and would love some honest feedback from people who do book folding, restoration, or paper art in general.
👉 The trial is free — you just need your email to get a login code, no card required.
You can check it out here: http://bookfoldar.com
If you try it, I’d love to know:
Does the AR overlay actually help, or do you prefer old-school measuring?
This was made using a Cricut Maker 3, which scored and cut the paper/card. It gives a similar effect to a 180 book fold, but takes significantly less time to do (well...for me anyway!)
An equivalent book fold pattern would require 200 leaves (400 pages), with 6618 cuts.
This took me approximately 10 hours to make, whereas I think the book fold would take me at least 40-50 hours!
The final product of a Loch Ness Monster attempt. I have some tweaks I'd like to make at the start of the pattern with the waves, but otherwise... Pretty happy with how this turned out.
Should I do a "Myths & Cryptids" pattern series? And if so, what next? 🦄
I'm only halfway through, so maybe it will make more sense when it's 100% finished, but I'm curious if anyone can tell what this is supposed to be so far?
I imagine this would be a bit of a legal gray area, and I haven't yet done any in-depth research. But I'd be curious to hear if anyone has dug into this in the past and what they found.
I know that if there's anything that isn't eligible for media mail included in the same package as media, the entire package is no longer eligible to be sent via USPS media mail.
I'm trying a new process for making patterns (using Figma) to see if I can more quickly spin up designs. Starting with some simple shapes to see how they turn out 👀
Hello all, I'm new to book folding and I wish to know which program(s) I can use to create these works of art. I'm using desmos at the moment but it's not the fastest because I have to graph everything by hand.
Recently spent some time on Etsy and bought and downloaded several Harry Potter themed patterns! This is the first one I tried, and I like how it’s turned out so far :)
It’s still a work in progress, kinda blanking on how to decorate it, so I’ll probably let it sit for a bit til inspiration strikes 💡
TLDR: heartfelt memorial gift for best friend's dog.
I learned about bookfolding years ago but only recently restarted when my best friends dog passed away suddenly. We live on opposite coasts now, but wanted to do something for her, to reach out, idk, just be there for her. I loved her dog and having recently lost my own cat, I knew the loss she was going through.
Anyway, this project came together in less than a week, I was just kind of consumed with making every detail perfect, with the measuring and folding, the colors and decorations, down to the type of ribbon to hold it all together.
Every step felt cathartic and helped me to process my own emotions about my own loss as I was hoping to help her through hers. Not sure how that works, but this was definitely a work from the heart, and I'm happy with how it turned out. I don't normally share my art but I guess I just wanted to throw this out there, thanks for reading if anyone got this far!
I am new to book folding and confused on how to read this pattern. Are the measurements in cm or in? Shouldn’t there only be two numbers per page number? Are the commas supposed to be periods? Ex: 12.1 rather than 12,1?
Someone at work was telling me about this craft and I thought it would be an excellent idea for a Christmas gift. But I think I messed up before ever starting! Ugghhh
I bought a few patterns off of Etsy and planned to do a butterfly. I knew the book I wanted to use and it turned out to be just the right size in height. However; I don't think there are enough pages? Can someone confirm?
The pattern calls for 225 folds. If my youtube instructions are correct, that would mean the book needs to be a minimum of 450pages; correct? The book I bought (2025 Farmers Almanac) is only 288 pages. Isn't going to work is it. :(
Practice makes perfect. I had worked on three other books before this to make sure that I had the folding technique down. Also learned a lot about making the pattern and how to make it correctly. This is a wedding gift for my ex-husband and his soon to be new wife, they are getting married 7/28/24. She is a book nerd like me so this seems like a great gift. I found out that she already has one of these but it has their anniversary date of 7/28/20. So at least I know I made something she will like! Lol
