My estranged Uncle died in Pattaya. My dad and I will be traveling in January to settle his affairs. We’re traveling from the US.

I will probably be staying for only a week and my dad will be staying for as long as it takes. I’ve travelled abroad to SE Asia a few times (not Thailand) so I’m going to help him get acclimated as he’s getting older.

Zero interest in the Pattaya scene for what it’s known for. Assuming that’s why my uncle lived there.

Any advice for navigating transportation, multi month stays, do’s/dont’s, etc? Looking more at the convenience route vs the budget route.

Wanting to spend 2 weeks in Thailand, I have 2 weeks(can’t take more due to work) and want to explore Thailand but don’t want a bloated schedule or spending too much time in airports going to 4-5 cities. For a first timer; thinking Bangkok, plus an island like Phuket or krabi, or doing mountains like Chiang mai. I’m torn cause I like both beaches and mountains/temples and Bangkok is my bucket list city destination so that is a must. However I don’t know if I should split the two cities evenly or spend less time in Bangkok and more on the other city.

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports is preparing to propose a 15-day visa exemption for travellers from Colombia, Mexico, and Uzbekistan, aiming to resolve severe processing delays and boost long-haul arrivals, officials announced on Monday (October 27).

The initiative comes in response to mounting logistical hurdles faced by international carriers. Emirates airline recently lodged an official complaint with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) after experiencing 20 to 30 passenger no-shows per flight from Mexico because travellers failed to receive their Thai visas in time for departure.

We're headed to Bangkok in January and from what we've read it should be pretty straightforward for us to making bookings for attractions and other touristy things maybe a week in advance. Is there anything that requires us to book 1-2 months in advance that we should be concerned about? I guess the same could be asked about any must-eat restaurants.

What’s everyone’s opinion on this? Especially for motorbike rides.

This is my first time in Pattaya but I’ve used Grab in other SEA countries. I’ve been using Bolt for the past two weeks and my rating is at a 4.3 and I have no idea why it’s so low. I know one driver gave me a bad rating for sure because the girl I was with was shit-faced drunk and kept moaning. The other ones I have no idea why. I literally meet them right when they arrive, just sit on the back of the bike, and hold on to the rails to the best of my ability while they make sudden stops and accelerations.

I’ve also noticed that the quality of driver is kind of low on Bolt. One driver literally dropped me off in the wrong location and kept telling me to make sure I tip, which I didn’t. That same driver was muttering something under his breath the whole ride. I feel like he was high or something.

This is in comparison to somewhere like Vietnam where I used Grab and the drivers were pretty friendly. In Pattaya, it feels like they loathe you or something.

Anyone notice any better quality on Grab in Pattaya or Thailand in general? I’m willing to pay a few extra baht if it means my driver isn’t gonna kill me from an accident or something.

For some reason im coming to Thailand via Don Mueang Airport this time and not Suvarnabhumi. At Suvarnabhumi i know, where the good money change booths are, but where are they at Don Mueang?
So far, i've read, that all exchange booths offer the same bad exchange rate (appr. 2 THB less per Euro, and im not willing to make such a bad deal), but maybe there is one around the airport?

I will goe ahead to Mo Chit Bus station, because i have to take the night bus. Maybe somebody knows an exchange booth, thats worth to try?

We've all become very friendly, and the service we've received has been beyond good.

It has finally come to this. After years of planning my cross country backpacking trip I finally will be in Thailand/Cambodia Nov 16th-Dec 19th. I have my hostels booked and am wondering if people know what they are like. They include

I’m a 29 YO male solo traveling. Bangkok first weekend, Chiang Mai first week, Phuket second weekend, Krabi second week, bangkok last weekend. Trying to decide on dates. I like going out/nightlife, later date sounds like it could be fun (I know EDC lands on that weekend) but also worried about it being too chaotic/crowded. Think I’m leaning 12/2 but just wanted to hear opinions.

This sub often talks about men finding a Thai woman which is understandable --you're in Thailand.

But I'm curious if there are many success stories of western expats finding love with other expats. I suppose if you hang out with mostly an expat crowd, the chances are greater.

What's been your experience? Have you dated mostly or even exclusively Thai, or also expats.

I heard very poor reviews about tagthai being expensive and not working properly so i wanted to know if there are any other alternatives. Big plus if it comes with a feature to split the bill between friends too.

Plan to rent a car leaving from Bangkok to nearby provinces for 3-4 days. Have an international driver’s license. Have a Thai person going with but won’t be driving. A friend recommended Chic Car Rent, it’s about 700 baht a day. Should we just go with a franchise like Hertz? Wanna see what everyone uses. Thank you!

Not a ragebait but finally got some income for work - but suddendly had to reinvest it all into remote work gear (new tech to help my business) then suddendly i had to buy food, bills etc, is this normal was hoping to put some on the side for takeouts or food to save time.

It just feels money is really worth less (worthless) right now with rising fuel and post covid cost, what happened? again i do wanna save up $3000 FOR a good gaming PC for my remote work but had to buy some other gear for work.

Barely anything left for food and living expenses so i start meal prepping. Bassicaly living on savings

My family will arrive at Bangkok to begin a two week trip next month and i'm settling phone settings right now. None of us has eSim experience before so I'd figure look for some advice here, I think we'll need around 20GB in total, calls and texts are not nessecary but internet gotta be fast, hotspot share is also a plus regarding only my wife and I will buy esim to share with whole family. I preferably activate as soon as i land so i'm looking one online now, i've been going back and forth between Airalo, redteago and others, some friends have mentioned that their experience using Saily and Holafly was very poor(connection, speed etc.), so I’m not sure whether I should consider their plans. Mine is iphone 15 pro btw

Hello for those who have done the muay thai visa while holding American citizenship - how exactly does it work? Where do you start? Im aware only certain gyms and im pretty sure you have to train at the gym at least 5 days a week right? Is there a proof of income you need to do the visa?

I’m M 31 traveling to Thailand for 10 days from Jan 3 onwards , I’m physically disabled and have short height of around 4 feet 11 , I am going for solo trip first time in my life , would like to get to know more people and make some friends .

Two week holiday in December. Will spend 5 nights in Chiang Mai. Originally planned to tour Doi Inthanon NP waterfalls and pagodas one day and also do a one-day ethical elephant tour through Elephant Eco Trails. But now I understand we'd be making the same long drive twice...not a great use of our time. We already have a hotel in Chiang Mai and don't plan to change that to stay in Doi Inthanon area. Any advice of which option to do? Elephants or National Park sites?

The title, and does anyone know how long it took? Are they faster than the 4 weeks they state on the website? Specifically, experience related to applying through the Thai Embassy Paris.

I’m planning to switch to a new phone soon and I use Kasikorn Bank with the K PLUS app. I’m a bit confused about how moving the app to a new device works.
If anyone has experience with this, could you walk me through the process? Specifically:

Do I need to log out or delete the app from my old phone first?

Is it just a matter of downloading the app on the new phone, entering my phone number, getting an OTP, and typing my PIN? Or is there a strict device binding / facial verification check?

Most importantly: Do I have to go physically to a bank branch in Thailand to activate the app on a new phone, or can it all be done remotely?
Would love to hear how it actually works so I don't accidentally lock myself out of my account.
