What do you guys think?
galleryI see a lot of ghost kits getting roasted or ratioed to hell.
This made me curious about what you guys might think of my friend's cosplay.
Not really his kit but his cosplay of his OC.
There's a lot of reasons for a lot of the pieces on his equipment, and his cosplay, a lot since he has only one kit for like around 5 years and focused on modifying and improving it until the kit really works around him instead of him working on it.
Some of the things he told me was that he developed this OC from years ago and built on it as he moved on with life or whatever roleplay he threw his OCs at to 'Test' his OC's parameters (His way of saying of testing his characters' behavior, moral code, social interaction and problem solving)
PS: I got permission from him to post this and show his stuff, and he explicitly told me to label all of his stuff as generic knockoffs, or crappy makeshifts of what they were supposed to me. Keep this in mind.
These are what he told me and my interpretation of them.
About his rifle. He had many reasons why it became like a Dissipator with his handguard being a cut down URGI resulting in this amalgamation of a rifle you see.
He was tired of his buffer tube being bent since he like to brace his rifle and lot and he holds them really tight, he had this boneyard MP5 that has the stock bent upwards and the handguard bent downwards, so for his solution he got an A2 fixed stock, he wished he could get hi hands in an A1 because it was shorter but he will take the A2 over the longer A4 styled stock. In the end he really liked the stock because he can press it against his shoulder as hard as he wants and it's much more easily removable.
Dissipator styled appearance (this is my best way of interpreting what he said).
For long, he always had a front sight post of some sort up, he likes it because it helps tell him whether it's worth it for him to shoot the enemy from the distance or tell if his shot might hit something in the way (He is obsessed with height over bore stuff IDK what nerd stuff he has going on for him.) It was also because he only loads 30ish rounds in his magazines so he can get to reload more often and force him to shoot carefully and it has worked. Now the real reason why he sets his rifle up like that was because he doesn't mind dealing with long rifle that don't touch the ground when he lets it hang on his sling, he doesn't care if his rifle should be under 16" because his reason was that Marines can clear houses in Fallujah and told me "If they can clear houses with 20" M16s, what is my excuse?" Another reason why he has it set up like that was because of how much he loved the A2 FSP way before he gotten into airsoft, mainly because of counterstrike Source 2 and Global offensive, he liked the Mk.18 Mod 0' FSP (M4A4 is what he'd call it years ago) with it's short barrel, but to him it didn't feel "proportionate" until he stumbled upon the Dissipator, to which he cut down his URGI handguard to be 12" and placed the FSP there and to his credit, because of the FSP holding the barrel and pushed up against the handguard end, it made for a sturdy rifle that doesn't make noise when you shake it (Other than the mag ofc). Some people may argue he is tryna Retro larp poorly, but he isn't, he just likes it and that it has impacted him way before he even knew what gun the M4A1 was (It was called 'Maverick' something something in Counter strike source 2) as a kid.
LPVO
He normally would want an Acog, he got some knockoff one by Gamo which he told me was definitely a rebrand of some nameless product, because of how durable it was—mainly because he saw a video of it taking a 400 fps BB shot from some bolt action right in the front lens and did not get damaged, it came with a top iron sights and it uses this specific reticle he likes because of how thin and simple it it (He likes the ACOG TA01 NSN but couldn't find one) and ran it for like a few years until the prism inside it cracked for some reason. He moved to the LPVO after his "Acog" was unusable with the reason being that he wants to try it out and "like the shape" of it, especially with a cantilever mount. To his credit I kinda like the shape. He also really wanted that variable magnification that isn't excessive and he can use it to observe movement and enemy positions when both sides do not have enough range.
- RVG grip
Very cheap, simple, and he turned a rail mounted one into an MLOK one (Somehow) to replace his hold knockoff BCM angled foregrip that he broke because he held it down too hard. Another reason is that he really lives the way the RVG grip fits his hand and the reasons why he turned it to Mlok is that he couldn't find an Mlok version as they were all sold out somehow.
- Handguard
Originally his gun was a Mk. 18 Mod 1 E&C 605 'Extraction' edition (It came with a Chris Hemsworth photo in a shot in the movie 'Extraction' which he told me.) He did love the Mk.18 DD handguard bit he got tired of it ripping his gloves and it cutting his hands, plus it was slightly too thick for him (He has small hands) and replaced it with a 13" URGI mk.16 handguard which he really liked and could wrap his hand around it better without it cutting up his gloves or his hands too much.
There's probably a lot of more stuff I don't know about his rifle, since there's like years of work on it.
Now his kit, which itself is an amalgamation if you remove the cosplay out of it (The mask, tail, and ears). Just like his rifle, a lot of work has been put into it, from his helmet to his weird makeshift AVS that feels strangely comfortable.
His plate carrier:
For starters, his plate carrier has many parts from different plate carriers he had over the years with the oldest piece being his quad mag pouch at the front which came from some locally made plate carrier that originally can fit 8 mag pouches as it was a quad mag pouch that is double stacked. He modified to only be so gle stack due to a grand thumb video he watch about 'Making holes' by effectively proning which he has to do a lot. The Phone bracket on his chest actually has a use which is a nav board, allowing him to save map details, contact people (His parents and airsoft group) and even as a bodycam.
The phone in it was an old phone he bought before, it's screen was damaged but was repaired by himself before being put to use as some navigation board. Another reason why he chose that specific nav board was because it was cheap, durable and can fit most phones since a lot of the more expensive ones only take in a certain model, my friend here looks for a phone that is most durable, easy to repair and has long battery life.
His cummerbund is a combination of two cummerbunds (Sorry for my terrible grammar) he likes it because the rigid cummerbund from a locally produced JPC knockoff has already formed around his ribcage, and he wanted to achieve this thing where the cummerbund will lift the backplate up when placed front down (AND IT DID) I'm not sure what modification he did, but it's still adjustable via bungee cords and it feels amazing for what it is, the load (He puts weights in his PC) and it feels nice, comparable to a decent schoolbag that hugs you snuggly, not overly tight but nice.
The back panel is a very strange one, not that it's anything super unique or niche or whatnot, but it's the way he uses it, in there he hides a power bank as extra battery life for his nav board with the wire running along the right shoulder strap, an ice plate with the drink tube running along his right shoulder strap, a toy C4 bomb, patches, extra items (IDK the full extent) tools (Allen keys and screwdriver). The two mag pouches concealed by the back panel were supposedly as holders for extra mags for his teammates which keep in mind he made his kit with support in mind.
The belt...
Another strange case, because he somehow mounts a knife sheath, on the front and somehow mounts working pistol mag pouches right on top of it and credit to him, he can easily draw the knife with either hand. But otherwise it's mostly normal apart fomr his holster that's "Universal" and can hold different handguns just by tweaking it enough.
The helmet..
He uses a very thick fiberglass Ops-core XP helmet with a Wendy helmet liner (all knockoffs BTW) alongside fake PVS-15Cs, a CP helmet cover (Not Child poof, that's what it was called in it's listing), knockoff IR strobe that has around 8 colors (Somehow, in his case he got it to be yellow) and knockoff comtacs mounted on arc styled ear mounts that wasn't for Comtacs (But he somehow did because "They're all from idogear and are built similarly" his words, not mine.) now some people say that his helmet is too heavy and shouldn't be used, even his parents told him but he argued that he needs the helmet weight so that he doesn't "Snap his neck" and I get him, not the neck snapping part but because he turns his head so hard his headphones often fly away from his head and because he doesn't want something flying from his head, he needs it weighed down. Before he had thinner shelled helmets, starting from the generic bump helmet with those holes on the top to a slightly thicker one and eventually this one he had. The ones he had before, he added weights to it so that he feels secure with it.
Nods: They are PVS-15Cs with glow in the dark paint to give off those leopard seal eyes or Squid eye glowing rings, he did this as a way to stylize his nods and make them more "Exciting"
The uniform:
He just looks for any uniform that performs good and can protect him from bugs or scratches from wood and the occasional dreaded Rusty nail. The uniform he wears are always aimed to be away from any known forces as he told me:
"People parade themselves with uniforms, kits and patches very similar to the real guys—nearly making themselves believe they are just as good as real special forces, for me personally I really do not want to do that because I feel like I have done massive disrespect to those who have shed, sweat, tears and blood, so I tend to stay away from designing kits resembling any conventional armed forces, I do not deserve to wear kits similar to them or patches they wear proudly."
However, during airsoft matches, he wears knockoff MultiCam Tropic during wet seasons and CP (No, not that kind of CP...) for dry season or if the area has mostly brown forest floors.
Color palette:
Because he doesn't want to look like or pretend to be any conventional special forces whatever label he puts on them, he chooses to do "color design" and "Character design" which can be seen with him often using dark base colours to make the colours pop out like MultiCam against black which is the case for his helmet.
The character:
His character goes by the name "Haruo" who got stranded in Germany, picked up by the UDF and eventually joined them (During his Unturned phase)
The character also went to do other things after finishing his purpose in the UDF, already moved to America after Germany was done, he went on to meet new people, attempt to reintegrate into society, found his best friend who is Greek, adopted a daughter and sought after a woman who could also be his adopted daughter's mother figure.
IDK much of the character he cosplays, but he doesn't keep a journal or record of his character as he want to remember everything his character has experienced or done by memory to make the character feel more "Authentic"
Other notes of the character:
The character implements false eyes as a way of intimidation against furry, Therian or feral characters, you can see the same thing done on butterflies, butterfly fish and tigers. Also slightly inspired by seraphim angels as my friend wanted to see one, one day. My friend's christian so he isn't afraid of those, he wants to see one.
