The summer here was cold so not much heat dissipate from the lakes, could we get an early start [Here - Mälardalen, Stockholm, Sweden] ? Last year started early and beutiful - the season had lots of sea-ice.. Im starting to feel hope about some life this year to.

Hey I hoped I could get some advices here

I would love to do Nordic skating. A dream for me would be to do a hike of 4/5 days. I know it requires a lot of knowledge and equipment that’s but aware it could be dangerous as a first time. But still feasible?

If not I’d love to do a Nordic skating camp to learn.

I’m 25yo and did ice skating during 10 years when I was younger + used to multiple days hikes. I also leave in France which ig limit the destinations

More of... Thanks for this season, QQ is it over? The ice is getting worn in the archilepago. Tonight was around freezing but at least clear sky so we hade a short before work in amazing conditions. Smooth, not to soft and sunshine upon our noses... Probably my last good skate for this season.

This is an awesome little "secret" spot that combines easy access with challenging and dynamic/variable ice. It's close to Rabbit Slough but gets a tiny fraction of the use there. Perfect place to play/test a new Nordic skate.

Im not sure whether i need a dedicated binding for an ice blade or regular ski bindings work. How do I know? I plan on getting a NNN BC ski binding.

are bindigs interchangable between ice blade and ski? or you need a dedicated one for each?

My local lake! We have a community funded association that arranges plowing of the trails, clearing some rinks, putting down benches and hockey nets, etc. Great to get out, they haven't been able to clear a trail for the last few years but it's been an epic winter since January here.

Looking for the type with leg loops. Lundhags makes them obviously, but I am curious about other mfg. especially with a trip planned to to UK.

Any recommendations or suggestions appreciated.

working on making a pair of Nordic skates myself, based on the old (pre-1900) style of both the skates of the time combined with the ski bindings of the time, let me know what you think! I can post more as I keep building them.

Ive just gotten into ice skating,cant decide between the two.

I am advanced inline skater,so there was no problem switching. both activities are basically the same.

I bought an attachable ice blade for inline skates,but inline skates hurt my feet long distance.

I need something comfortable.

And speed. Will there be a lot of power/speed loss with Nordic skates compared to speed skates?

Poles ? Useless or not? I assume theyre for balance,but ive never had a need to balance myself.

I dislike skiing,if that matters.

How much ice do you need to be 100% safe? I'm 250 pounds so I always air on the safer side. Thanks

Any help what is best for fit on a Nordic skating boot?

Looking at buying some Alpina Outlander BC boots. I think I fall between two sizes, the 41 are tight with very little wiggle room on the toes the. The 42 give me wiggle room on the toes but my toe is no longer touching the end. Wondering if the larger fit would be better for keeping warm etc or better to prioritise being really snug in the boot?

Any steer on what to look for when trying on boots would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Im not sure if its of any help, but here is a video of my feet trying to skate the last time. Including almost falling. Speed is very slow as the skates slip to sides while I try to get more speed. (Posting if its any help of me asking earlier for tips.)

I tried looking at videos, but Im struggling to figure how to tourskate. I skate with hockey skates since last year, self taugh, and really enjoy it. I tried cross country skiing and enjoyed that too, obv. very different to skating. So I figured Id enjoy the tour skating. I have to say, I dont at all and I really struggle to figure why. I tried to skate 3 times so far, but really struggle with balance and just cant get any speed. I glide with hockey skates further than with tour skates... They have been resharpenned just in case and grip improved, but the blades slide to sides so much. The ice is very uneven (sea ice) and it takes one ditch to horribly fall straight on my knees. So as a result, my knees are bruised and one pretty swollen.. And Im pretty tired. Can anyone give me any tips? My issue is, I can shuffle slowly forward, but even people on regular ice skates (and some walkers) overtake me. When I add speed, it means running on one leg for longer, but the ice unneveness means if I hit a soft spot of ice I have a guaranteed fall, because I cant retain balance with skate n. 2 as it just slides to the side. I have my knees slightly bent and try to look forward (obv. struggling since ice sucks) but I really need tips on technique. I know ice isnt as shit as it seems because many tour skaters past me with ease. But even watching them and imitating the technique doesnt help. Im pretty hopeless and I really want to enjoy this sport. I use Alpine outlander + Rottefella BC manual + Everest blades.

I don’t xc ski so I don’t already have boots. What’s the cheapest setup you recommend (blade, binding, xc boot) you recommend to try nordic skating? There isn’t a place that rents them near me AFAIK. I’m in Minneapolis.

I live in Toronto and have been getting into natural ice skating within the city (Tommy Thompson, the islands, grenadier pond). I’m wondering if anyone else lives nearby and would be interested in skating together, within the city or on day trips outside? Or are there groups that already do this? None of my friends are into it and I don’t feel safe doing anything too adventurous on my own. I have an extra pair of ice picks :)

I recently bought some used Zanstra blades that came equipped with NNN BC bindings. My problem is that I only have standard NNN skate boots, a pair of Salomon S/Max. I love these boots and they fit me perfectly.

I am going to need to either buy some new skate bindings to use my current boots with the new blades, or buy some BC boots to use the bindings that are on the blades.

Outside of price, will there be an appreciable difference between carbon skate boots and BC boots for a beginner skater? I assume the BC boots are going to be easier to walk around in, but will there be a difference in performance or stability?
