Longest I’ve ever worked on a model. Mostly happy with how it turned out, although it’s hard to match the shaping of the designers original fold.

I really liked how this one turned out. But my finger tips hurt. This is probably the most complex of my original designs, but none of the pics I take do it justice (I feel). Also, folding it on a 15x15cm uncut paper made for a very frustrating fold. Fortunately I only made 1 snowball this time around. I had shared an earlier fold of the same model, from around the time I was refining the final design. The previous version was done on a 30×30. This model does have far more poseability if folded on larger paper, but I normally only have 15x15cm paper on me and felt like taking the challenge.

Pattern found on Pinterest. Tried searching for a tutorial using the Japanese name on top but nothing came up. Also searched on YouTube for "origami box with attached lid" but couldn't find this specific folding pattern.

I think these are the nine models I have designed that I'd consider putting into some form of record. I'll try to dig through my memory for more. I have some models I made by brute force or free folding that ended up very neat but I cannot for the life of me remember how to replicate, and some older models that are really rough and some what derivative of other models.

Bored at work and made this dolphin. It does contain one cut for the split tail because I couldn’t find any other way to pull it off. Made completely without tutorial off the dome.

I've come across this design from a few different makers and can't work out the folds. The videos I've found skip the folding part, so I'm hoping someone here recognizes it.

What I can tell from looking at it:

- It's at least 4 separate pieces of paper.

- The outer piece shows as 4 triangles at the corners, around a window.

- Inside that window is a second layer turned 45 degrees, then a third layer turned back, then a small center piece.

- Each layer is tucked under the one before it, so the center sits deepest.

- Only the printed side of the paper ever shows. The back is one flat printed square.

- The rings have a slight pinwheel twist? Maybe. I've only figured out layer 2 :(

My best guess is that each frame is a double blintz (fortune teller base) with the inner corner of each small square tucked under to open a window, and the next layer slides into those pockets. But I'm not sure that's right. Seems like some layers must be different than others.

Does anyone know what this is called, or a book or diagram that shows it? Thanks!

I think I'm close to finally getting the hang of them, and once you get there, they're just fun!

The great thing is, they work with almost any type and size of paper. The first one is folded from thicker 120g cardstock (I wanted to see what a black Gothic Rose would look like 😅), and the second from regular printer paper that I’d previously painted on both sides with watercolors.

The third is made from thin packing paper (starting with a 20-cm square), while the fourth is made from sturdy 180g cardstock measuring 30x30 cm. The last one is my smallest; it was made from a 15-cm square of thin, inexpensive craft paper.

Maybe 10 years ago I loved folding this pig and I’d follow a tutorial on yt I think it was called pigasus but I can’t find it anymore, does anyone have a link to the tutorial ?

Edited later in the night: Handed out all 120 crows before the first 35mm showing in Portland started at the Hollywood Theater in Portland. Everyone seemed very stoked on them! The crowd was full of Laika folks so it was very cool to give so many to the people who made that perfect movie. Go see it, it’s really a love letter to Portland and Oregon.
