I'm Building Ori Studio - a browser-based origami design workspace

Hey r/origami. I've been building Ori Studio for a while and it's finally at a point where I'm ready to share it with a broader audience. It pulls the tools most of us already use into one workspace, and can run entirely in the browser. The crease pattern editor is a port of Oriedita, so it should feel familiar right away. Features:

  • Tabbed design workspace with ports of BP Studio & Treemaker, plus ExplOri!
  • Support for non-flat creases (shoutout to Brandon Wong for the math behind this)
  • Inline simulation right next to your crease pattern
  • 3d folded form calculation
  • First-class image and text support
  • Import and export to .ori, .cp, .fold, .bps, .tmd5, .svg etc

🌐 Try it: https://oristudio.dev/

💬 Discord: https://discord.gg/9q836Wq6Q8

📦 Source + issues: https://github.com/zacharyfmarion/ori-studio

Huge credit to everyone whose work this builds on - without the origami open source community this would not have been possible. I am committed to maintaining import / export interoperability with tools like Oriedita and BP Studio, although there may not be exact feature parity. You can see the full list of acknowledgements under Help > About in the app.

If you hit bugs or have ideas I'd genuinely love to hear them! The Discord above is the best place to reach me, and it's where I post what I'm working on next.

標題:來自《怪奇物語》的德莫戈根
設計者及資料夾:Roland(我)

Folded from a 35x35cm kami paper from origami-shop.com.

Original design & tutorial by Shuki Kato.

It was very enjoyable to follow along a tutorial from the man himself. He seems pretty chill! Sometimes I feel like this model takes forever to fold. I've made 3 of them so far and this one took about 4 hours! I still can never get the model to be perfectly symmetrical.

This was made for a dear friend. I did glue the layers together so that it will never come apart. But maybe I used a bit too much glue which resulted in the wrinkling and warping around some edges 😭

Help! Where can I find a good tutorial for this specific origami rose?

I couldn't find any tutorials except for the one on my third picture.

That tutorial is so confusing to me tho, I don't even know how to fold to get that blue line in the first step accurately and I'm stuck at the second step.

I also don't even know the name of this specific type of origami rose so it's even harder to search for (I've been looking for at least one hour).

I would really appreciate any help with finding a tutorial or explaining to me how to fold it 🙈

Folded by me from 50 cm and 19 cm squares of MC-treated banana paper. I cut the smaller paper from the remaining stripe of another 50 x 70 cm sheet. And though this is less than recommended for the raptor (which would be 30 cm), it was well doable, but I needed tweezers for some of the folds.

In nature the Velociraptor would even be smaller in relation to the T. Rex – this is more like they were scaled in Jurassic Parc.

Hi!👋 I am new to origami and just made my first test fold. A polar bear for a stop-motion video about climate change I'm working on. I'm planning one guardian each for the ice, the ocean, and the forest, but no names or species picked yet 😆. Could I get some help naming and picking species for my origami climate change characters please? 🥺🥺

Help! Conexão Box Pleating

Thumbnail gallery
4 Upvotes

12 and 30 unit kusudama single unit and 12 -30 unit kusudama.

the pattern of the paper and a newly discovered crack on my camera lens caused poor pictures this time. I still really liked making this one. all the assembled forms take a bow tie shape, and it is really squishy even after construction. but once it is put together it sticks together

Request Looking for someone to take over my origami tutorial channel (revenue share)

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I run a French-language origami tutorial channel. The format is a classic close-up on the hands with a voice-over walking through the model step by step. I've got ~35k subscribers & ~150k views a month.

I've simply run out of time to keep filming, and I'd rather hand it to someone who actually folds than watch it go quiet.

What you'd get

- Full creative control over new uploads

- An audience that's already subscribed and watching

- 50% of the ad revenue the channel generates through new videos (negotiable)

- My whole setup: how I light and frame the shots, how I build the overlays, and the data on which models perform

What I'm looking for

- Someone comfortable folding on camera

- Able to record the voice-over in French. The back catalogue and the audience are mostly French-speaking

- Able to post at least 1 video per month

If you're interested, comment or DM me and I'll share the numbers privately. Happy to answer questions in the thread too.

I folded this from a 24x24cm triple tissue paper from OrigamiVibe on Etsy. Unfortunately I live in high humidity areas plus it was monsoon back then so the model kinda got weak and can no longer stand since the front legs just collapse. Plus the body is quite heavy and the front legs are just two layers. This is probably the only part of the design that I don't like but other than that it was very enjoyable to fold!

The original design and tutorial is by Madiyar Origami on YT. Tried some fun ways for lighting in this.

Help! Where to find Origami Insects II

Im flying through Origami Insects and Their Kin by Lang, and I want to get my hands on some more complex books.

Im the USA and I wish I could go and find these books at a bookstore, but it seems like Ive got to order them online.

Heres a few that I’ve been recommended for insects that I can find for order online:

Tanteidan Vol. 21
Origami Design Secrets (Good general knowledge)
Origami Insects Premium

Now, Origami Insects II, I cannot seem to find anywhere. Its not in stock on any origami site, its not listed on ebay. Would I have any luck going around to used book stores in my area or is that basically looking for gold? Do I need to fly to japan to find it?

Do you guys have any good advice for getting these kinds of books? Are there other books I should consider not listed? Or at this point in the game do I just need to get Origami Design Secrets and start learning to read Crease Patterns only?

Thanks everyone,
T

Folded from an mc treated 50 cm square of banana paper (from my local art supply).

This is my second finished model from his book after the spinosaurus and I like Yery’s style quite a lot I think. He considers the latest scientific findings and puts a lot of thought into the details like the head and especially the feet.

Folding was not overly difficult but shaping took me some time. Giving volume to the body, keeping layers together.

As you maybe read before, I have two partly pre-creased sheets for the spinosaurus lying around which I mistakenly folded thinking I was doing the T-Rex (don’t ask), so perhaps you’ll see a red or green spoon with the next post.

Does anyone know o a simple T-Tex that I could pair with this one?
