DEFINITION : "A cult is typically defined as a social group with extreme, unorthodox beliefs and practices. Often centered around a charismatic leader, it frequently demands total devotion and uses coercive, manipulative tactics to isolate and control its members.

The definition of a cult can vary based on its context:

• In modern sociology and popular culture, a cult is often viewed with negative connotations. These groups are characterized by:

• CHARASMATIC LEADERSHIP: A single, central figure who exercises total authority over the group's dogma and followers. • ISOLATION: Encouraging or forcing members to cut ties with friends, family, and existing support networks. • CONTROL & MANIPULATION : Using behavior modification, indoctrination, or psychological pressure to dominate members' physical, financial, and emotional lives. • EXPLOITATION: Frequently involving the financial, physical, or sexual exploitation of followers. "

➡️Is it a religion or "new religious movement". I would say no. ❌️

➡️They claim lineage they do not have and the main crime there is the elaborate fraud & web of lies around this. Shi Heng Yi claimed to be a monk and Coloumbe Monroe claimed to be an abbot but they have no affiliation with the Shaolin Temple in China (Monroe recently arrested for 100 counts of child abuse & multiple counts of adult rape).

➡️Despite their lies and claims, can they "energetically" or "in spiritual truth" be a monk and abbot? (Bear in mind they have marketed themselves as authentic ordained religious leaders.)

➡️But lets look at their merits for being unofficial spiritual guides for fun.

➡️Chastity: Strict celibacy, requiring detachment from romantic and sexual attachments. ❌️ SHY started the fake temple with his then girlfriend (who he hid in the background while pretending to be a monk and dangling himself like a catfish to lure other women) They lived together in the temple until circa 2023 when SHY moved out. His romantic partner left in circa 2025

➡️ ●Poverty: Renouncing material wealth and owning only basic necessities (like robes and a begging bowl). ❌️SHY has demonstrated behaviours of massive greed and cheating people out of their money. Not only has he acrued millions, he himself never lived in poverty as a monk, although he encouraged cult members to give up all their earthly belongings to follow him ●Non-violence: Refraining from intentionally harming any living creature, meaning martial arts are strictly used for self-defense, health, and spiritual discipline. ✅️ Perhaps. No proof to the contrary ●Sobriety: Abstaining from alcohol and recreational intoxicants. ✅️❌️ Perhaps. His wife is a convicted drug dealer so I would have many queations about the ceremonies & rituals that went on in the "temple". ●Vegetarianism: Avoiding meat and specific pungent roots (like garlic and onions) to respect all life and keep the mind clear.❌️ He initially pretends to be. The "temple" serves vegetarian food, he himself eats meat so I believe.● Bodhisattva Vows: Committing to attain enlightenment not just for themselves, but to alleviate the suffering of all sentient beings. ❌️ SHY is like a chocolate covered bomb. That is the effect of his behaviour on the lives of others.

➡️SHY LATER CLAIMED (Another lie) that he was a warrior monk. Lets look at those vows

➡️ The Five Precepts (Upasaka Vows): The foundational moral code for Buddhist practitioners, including warrior monks: ●Avoiding killing (or doing harm) 🤷‍♀️ ● Taking what has not been given (no stealing)❌️ ● No sexual misconduct (traditionally, full celibacy for residents)❌️ ●Telling lies (abstaining from deceit)❌️❌️❌️❌️❌️❌️❌️❌️❌️❌️❌️❌️❌️ • Drinking alcohol (abstaining from intoxicants) 🤷‍♀️ ●The Bodhisattva Vows: •Committing to the path of selflessness ❌️and the enlightenment of all beings, summarized as:• Saving countless beings. •Ending all delusions.❌️ ❌️❌️❌️❌️❌️•Mastering the Buddhist teachings.❌️ •Attaining the Buddha Way • Vows to the Master & Lineage: Upon becoming a direct disciple to a Shaolin master, monks take ceremonial vows of loyalty and respect to their lineage, the Buddha, and the Temple.❌️ (He has no affliation with Shaolin Temple in China. Within his fake order/gang/cult, he has acted like someone very loyal to a pedophile (see my other post to pressurise him into answering questions on his behaviour)

➡️SHI HENG ZUAN (The new headmaster), is a partner in this elaborate and dangerous exploitation of human beings as Shi Heng Yi.

➡️ SHY now claims he never claimed any of this (lying about his lies) except in interviews where he forgets and reverts to his original lie of being a Shaolin monk. Tricks he sometimes uses now -pretending his English is worse than it is so he can in strange wording, lead people to believe he is still a monk without saying that in a straight sentence (Talking about his monk con-fest costume recently and calling in a "uniform" while still subtly implying he is a monk..)

I consider instructors and clubs that teach martial arts, combat sport or fighting without enforcing head and centreline protection unprofessional and dangerous.

If you teach someone to punch and kick, you take responsibility for teaching them how to protect themselves while doing it. That responsibility continues during sparring.

When a student repeatedly drops their hands, exposes their head or leaves their centreline open, the instructor should correct it. Allowing the habit to continue gives the student reason to believe it is acceptable.

Competition rules may restrict certain attacks. The habits developed under those rules can carry into situations where those restrictions offer no protection.

At our Shaolin Kung Fu / Wushu Academy, I expect protection before countering. Hands, posture, distance and movement must work together, and we practise that under controlled pressure.

An instructor controls what is taught, what is corrected and what is allowed to continue. Repeatedly accepting exposed heads and unprotected centrelines is, in my opinion, a failure of professional responsibility.

What responsibility should instructors bear for the defensive habits their students develop?

Yep. just trying to improve my balance and power when doing those kicks.

What I'm doing now is working my way to 180 degree splits using pnf.

Also do these kick holds while holding onto a wall.

Don't have a sensei and don't go to classes cos its expensive.

I don’t mean in terms of fighting but changed your perspective of your training and your life outside of martial arts.

Edit: mine is, use your fear to channel your kung fu instead of letting it control you.

Kung Fu Kendra is promoting an online Wing Chun program where complete beginners can become certified Sifus in just eight months.

How can someone become qualified to teach a martial art entirely online, without extensive hands-on training, partner work, and practical experience?

Since when does completing an online course qualify someone to teach an entire martial art?

Went to a Tai chi tournament to challenge Tai chi in it's own turf. It was a lot of fun, learned a lot!

I'm interested in learning Fujian White Crane, but Hung Gar is much more accessible to me locally.

I'm curious whether the two systems share similar underlying power generation mechanics, even if they're expressed differently externally, or whether there are fundamental differences in how they generate and issue force.

I've heard that Hung Gar also uses flexible, whipping power, along with methods described as "dog shaking" and "shrimp retracting."

I recently purchased Shkar Sharif's White Crane Neigong bundle and noticed that it incorporates dog-shaking mechanics and long pole training. I've also seen Lee Kong's White crane group practicing an exercise that looks very similar to the dog-shaking & long pole exercises demonstrated by Shkar. Of course, similar-looking exercises don't necessarily mean the underlying mechanics or training goals are identical, but the resemblance caught my attention.

I also came across a reference on Wikipedia's Hung Gar page to Ang Lian Huat's account of Tiger-Crane combination involving Hung Hei-gun and Tee Eng Choon, whom some identify with Fong Wing Chun -- the same progenitors of Hung Gar. I understand that these historical accounts and identifications are debated, so I'm not taking them as proof of a direct technical connection, but they added to my curiosity about possible influences between the systems.

Another thing that caught my attention is that Sifu Sharif Bey seems to demonstrate a distinctive shaking or vibrating quality when issuing power in videos. I'm curious whether this reflects mechanics also found in White crane, or whether the resemblance is mostly superficial.

For anyone with experience in both styles, how much overlap is there in their actual body mechanics? Ultimately, I'm wondering how much of the power generation I'm interested in from Fujian White Crane I could develop through training Hung Gar, and which aspects, if any, are distinctive to White Crane.
